Police arrest 16-year-old in connection to shooting near Lincoln High School
Police arrested a 16-year-old Thursday in connection to a shooting that injured another teenager near Lincoln High School earlier in the week. Officers booked the suspect into the Remann Hall Juvenile Detention Facility on suspicion of first-degree assault, unlawful gun possession, and possession of a weapon on school grounds, Tacoma Police said in a news release Thursday evening. The shooting happened after school, about 2:45 p.m., on June 17 in the 700 block of South 37th Street, The News Tribune reported. Police said the boy who was shot, also a 16-year-old, was hospitalized with injuries that were not life-threatening. 'Police identified the location of the shooting, interviewed witnesses, and obtained video surveillance as part of the investigation,' the news release said. Investigators said they found the gun and that there are no other suspects. There was a four-vehicle wreck nearby shortly after the shooting, The News Tribune reported, including a police vehicle on the way to the scene and a school bus that wasn't carrying any students.

1 boy shot outside Lincoln High School in Tacoma. No arrests made, police say
Update: Tacoma Police Department spokesperson Sgt. John Correa told The News Tribune at the scene that police received multiple calls around 2:49 p.m. reporting shots heard outside Lincoln High School. More calls came in from a nearby business after a boy showed up with a gunshot wound. 'What started the argument, what started the shots, we don't know at this time,' Correa said. 'We're still investigating it.' The victim has been hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries, according to Correa. Police have the scene spanning South 37th Street and South G Street closed for forensic processing and there is some traffic congestion in the area, he said. A collision down the road involved four cars, including a police vehicle enroute to the scene of the shooting and a school bus with no students onboard, according to Correa. Initial post: One boy was shot outside of Lincoln High School in Tacoma Tuesday afternoon. The shooting took place just before school ended in the 700 block of South 37th Street. The boy sustained a gunshot wound, and the status of his injuries was not immediately known, Tacoma Police Department spokesperson Sgt. John Correa told The News Tribune. Correa said it was not immediately known if the injured boy is a student at the school. The alleged shooter has not been arrested, Correa said. The cause for the shooting is being investigated. The school went into a modified lockdown as a precaution after 911 was called for the shooting. That restricted access in and out of the building, according to Tacoma Public Schools chief communications officer Tanisha Jumper in a statement. 'As this is an active investigation we have no other statement at this time. Counselor will be on site tomorrow to provide support to students and staff,' she said. While responding to the shooting, a police sergeant was involved in a crash with other cars. Correa said he 'is fine and OK' as well as the other people involved in the crash. Correa said he could not confirm how many other cars were involved in the crash. Two people were transported to a local hospital by Tacoma Fire personnel, a department spokesperson told the News Tribune. Buddy's Chicken and Waffles on South G Street posted on Instagram it closed early because its block is an active crime scene. Reporter Julia Park contributed to this story.

Lincoln High School senior crowned 2025 Portland Rose Festival Court Queen
PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) – The annual search for a ruler of the Portland Rose Festival Court has come to a close with a Lincoln High School senior crowned queen. Ava Rathi was crowned early Friday morning ahead of the Grand Floral Parade this weekend. She will serve as the official ambassador of the Rose Festival for the following year. Charges announced for teen accused of planning mass shooting at Washington mall 'I am excited to be selected as Queen of Rosaria because I will get to interact with so many people in the City of Portland that I know and love,' Rathi said. 'And especially to represent the other 14 incredible members of the 2025 Rose Festival Court.' According to Rose Festival organizers, Rathi was chosen due to her academic excellence, leadership, and community service. She shared the following statement via the festival's : 'I am involved in many activities at my school, including creating interactive art kits for pediatric patients, serving as the Captain of Speech & Debate, and earning 5th in State and the 'Proven Excellence' award in Informative Speaking. I am also a National Qualifier from North Oregon, Director of Finance and Civics Tutor for the Mission: Citizen non-profit, and a member of the National Honor Society. Additionally, I won the BWB Forum 'Happy Teens Website Design Challenge' and participate in Mock Trial. Outside of school, I enjoy drawing, sewing, painting, and skiing at Mount Hood. I also love reading thriller/mystery novels and watching horror movies.' SIOUX FALLS, SD (KELO) — It's opening weekend for the City of Sioux Falls outdoor pools and aquatic centers. They're located at Drake Springs, Frank Olson, Kuehn, Laurel Oak and Terrace parks. Open swimming will go from 1 to 5 in the afternoons and 6:30 to 8 in the evenings. Splash pads at Hayward and Pioneer parks are open from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Wild Water West is also open for the season. The water park west of Sioux Falls features a tornado alley, waterslides and a wave pool. The hours are 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Super Saturday at the Outdoor Campus in Sioux Falls features free fishing in the pond. The sessions are 10 a.m. to noon and 1-3 p.m. All gear will be provided. Country singer George Ducas is the headline performer at Levitt at the Falls in downtown Sioux Falls. The free concert starts at 7 p.m. with opening act Emma Nichole. Members of the Lincoln High School student newspaper the Statesman are hosting a Used Book Sale. It's taking place from 8 a.m. to noon in the Lincoln cafeteria. Paperbacks are $2. Hard covers are $3. All proceeds will go to printing costs and operating the Statesman website. Purchase fresh produce along with other home-grown and home-made items at the Falls Park Farmers Market. It's open every Saturday from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. through October. AMC Collective in Sioux Falls is hosting a Yarn Butterflies Make & Take.
