Nearly 200,000 Ford vehicles recalled over risk of passengers getting trapped

An American car giant has recalled nearly 200,000 vehicles in the US due to a risk of passengers including children getting trapped in the back seat. Ford Motor Company is recalling 197,432 of its 2021 to 2025 Mustang Mach-E SUVs because owners could get locked out when the battery is low. A software glitch can cause the electric-powered door to lock after the driver shuts the front door, and trap a passenger like a child who cannot use door handles, according to the nation's agency enforcing vehicle performance standards. Such a scenario could be dangerous and life-threatening, especially in the summer months with hot weather, warned the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). All the vehicles of that model and years could have the defect and customers should bring them to Ford dealers to update the software free of charge. Six customers reported having problems opening the back door after getting out of the vehicle, and two of those drivers had kids in the back seat. Those complaints led the NHTSA to contact Ford in January. Ford said it stopped producing the defective part on June 3, and will send letters notifying customers on June 23. The automaker plans to have a remedy ready by September 29 and said it will then mail follow-up letters. In the meantime, Ford is advising customers to watch out for warning signs like the SYNC screen displaying 'system off to save power', or going blank after the engine is turned off. Another sign may be the inside front door handles requiring a further pull that usual to exit. Ford stated it is 'not aware of any reports of accidents or injuries related to this condition'. The automaker is also recalling more than 180,000 Explorers and 120,000 Lincoln Aviators of model years 2020 to 2025 over a faulty seat fold switch that can make them to move suddenly cause injuries or chances of a crash. It comes just over a month after Waymo recalled more than 1,200 of its driverless cars due to a software issue blamed for over two dozen minor crashes. Ford Recalls Vehicles For Driving Forward In Reverse Gear

Read the full story on The Auto Wire Ford has issued yet another safety recall, this time for a transmission fault which can cause a vehicle to drive forward when it's in reverse. Needless to say, that's a very bad thing. And even though the recall only involves 269 cars, trucks, and SUVs, the fact it's such a wild malfunction and Ford has been dealing with so many recalls it's hard to keep track creates a bad combination for the Recall 25S19 was issued on March 14 and involves certain 2025 Lincoln Aviators, 2024 to 2025 Ford Broncos, 2025 Explorers, 2024 to 2025 F-150s, 2025 Mustangs, and 2025 Rangers. Even if you own one of those vehicles, the chance yours is affected by the recall is slim. But with the risk involved if it is, we wouldn't just ignore this one. According to the recall notice, the problem is with the transmission main valve body not meeting manufacturing specifications, which sounds like yet another quality control issue from Ford. A sign this is a problem can be the vehicle not reversing when the transmission is put into reverse gear. Even worse, when the transmission is put into reverse of neutral, the vehicle might move forward instead. There will be a warning for the driver with the Malfunction Indicator Light and Wrench light illuminating on the dash, so watch for those. While this issue constitutes a serious safety risk, apparently a solution to the problem won't be ready until sometime in the second quarter of 2025. That could be all the way until the end of June. Even Ford's CEO Jim Farley has spoken out about the inordinate number of recalls and poor quality control in the automaker's manufacturing process. We've covered only some select safety recalls issued as a result, including two that fix problems with previous recalls. Nearly 1.3 million Ford F-150 trucks investigated over potential transmission issue, NHTSA says

Federal safety regulators are investigating a potential issue affecting nearly 1.3 million Ford F-150 pickup trucks after receiving more than 100 consumer complaints about transmission shifting to a lower gear without warning. The U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration announced Monday that regulators have received 138 complaints about F-150 vehicles in model years 2015-2017 regarding an unrequested transmission downshift that allegedly causes the vehicle to decelerate rapidly. Some of the complaints also allege the spontaneous downshift causes their rear wheels to temporarily lock, seize or skid increasing the risk for crash and injury, the NHTSA reported. The probe is specific to 2015-2017 F-150 vehicles with 6-speed transmission, according to Ford Motor Company spokesperson Maria Buczkowski, who told USA TODAY the auto manufacturer is "working with the agency to support its investigation." The NHTSA said a preliminary evaluation is currently underway into the issue that will determine whether the "scope and severity" of the safety issues warrant an official recall. The investigation comes as the company recalled nearly 50,000 vehicles Ford and Lincoln vehicles due to a possible backup camera that was improperly repaired under a previous recall. The backup camera video output may fail in 2020-2023 Ford Explorers and Lincoln Aviators as well as 2020-2022 Lincoln Corsairs, according to the NHTSA. Ford also issued two recalls after incorrect fixes to previous recalls. Nearly 13,000 vehicles from the 2021 to 2024 Bronco Sport and 2022 to 2023 Maverick may have body and power train control modules that may possibly fail to detect a change in the 12-volt battery state of charge. More than 2,250 are recalled due to incorrectly repaired 2021-2022 Edge vehicles that may cause the rearview camera to display a blank or distorted image while in reverse, according to the NHTSA. Dealers must update the software without charge and mail notification letters by April 24. Read more about these official recalls here. Ford Issues Another Recall For Already Recalled Cars

Read the full story on The Auto Wire Ford just can't seem to catch a break lately when it comes to recalls as the company is again recalling already recalled cars to fix what was originally supposedly repaired. No, you didn't misread that: Ford is issuing a recall to fix vehicles which were previously recalled, because the first round of work apparently didn't correct the we covered before, Ford had a problem with the rearview camera on certain SUVs. Out of those which were fixed before, just under 50,000 are being recalled again because they were 'repaired incorrectly' according to a notice from NHTSA. The vehicles recalled again are certain 2020 to 2023 Ford Explorers/Lincoln Aviators and 2020 to 2022 Lincoln Corsairs. In those vehicles, the rearview camera can suddenly stop working, meaning drivers won't be able to see behind their SUVs as well while reversing. This time around, the fix involves dealers updating the Image Processing Module software. In other words, it's not a problem with the cameras or wiring but instead is a software issue. In the previous recall, Ford Super Duty trucks were included. Why they don't need a software update like the SUVs isn't clear, but we hope this is the end of this reverse camera problem. But it's worth noting 2021 to 2022 Ford Edges were recalled for a similar problem not too long ago. Sadly, another Ford recall was issued at the same time as the one to fix the supposedly fixed rearview camera problem. This one involves a fault between the 12-volt battery system and control modules on 2021 to 2024 Bronco Sports and 2022 to 2023 Mavericks. The bad news is that problem can result in a sudden loss of drive power, possibly leading to a crash. Just under 13,000 vehicles are included in the recall. We're hopeful Ford will get its ducks in a row and what seems like excessive recalls, including those issued to correct previous recalls, come to a close.
