M&A News: Fox Corp (FOXA) Acquires Caliente TV

Media company Fox Corp (FOXA) has acquired Caliente TV, which is a sports streaming platform and TV channel, in order to strengthen its sports broadcasting footprint in Mexico. This acquisition gives Fox access to valuable broadcasting rights for major competitions like the UEFA Champions League, France's Ligue 1, and select Liga MX matches, which will allow it to meet the rising demand for premium sports content in the region. Confident Investing Starts Here: Following the acquisition, Fox plans to expand its offerings through a multi-platform strategy that includes launching a new pay TV channel and a subscription-based video-on-demand service. These services will complement Tubi, which is Fox's existing free and ad-supported streaming platform. Interestingly, Carlos Martinez, Fox's executive vice president and managing director for Latin America, will lead the rollout of these new plans in Mexico and Central America. It is worth noting that Martinez brings more than 30 years of experience in the Latin American broadcasting industry. While Fox did not disclose the financial details of the Caliente TV deal, the move is in line with its overall streaming strategy. Indeed, just last month, the company announced that Fox One, its new subscription streaming service, would debut before the start of the fall football season. The shift comes as Fox sees growing advertiser interest across its platforms—including Fox News, Fox Sports, and Tubi—which helped it surpass revenue expectations in its latest quarterly earnings. Is FOXA Stock a Good Buy? Turning to Wall Street, analysts have a Moderate Buy consensus rating on FOXA stock based on seven Buys, seven Holds, and one Sell assigned in the past three months, as indicated by the graphic below. Furthermore, the average FOXA price target of $57.43 per share implies 5% upside potential.

Real Madrid's Kylian Mbappe hospitalized during U.S. tour

June 19 (UPI) -- Real Madrid striker Kylian Mbappe is undergoing treatment at a hospital for acute gastroenteritis, the La Liga soccer franchise announced Thursday. Madrid played without their star for a 1-1 draw with the Saudi Pro League's Al-Hilal on Wednesday in Miami Gardens, Fla. They will take on Mexico Liga MX squad Pachuca in another Club World Cup match on Sunday in Charlotte, N.C. "Our player Kylian Mbappe is suffering from an acute case of gastroenteritis and has been admitted to hospital in order to undergo a series of tests and follow the appropriate course of treatment," Madrid said in a statement. Mbappe, who scored 43 times last season for Madrid, has not trained in recent days. He participated in his first training session with new madrid coach Xabi Alonso on Friday in Madrid. He then flew Saturday to the United States with his teammates. Xavi told reporters Wednesday at Hard Rock Stadium that Mbappe was in "rough shape," but did not rule him out for a return against Pachuca. "We don't know," Xabi said. "We have to see how he recovers. He hasn't been able to train in the last few days. He's been in rough shape with a virus, so we have to keep an eye on him." Madrid started Gonzalo Garcia at striker in Mbappe's place against Al-Hilal. The 21-year-old Spaniard scored Madrid's lone goal. He was later named player of the match. "We grew into the game and got better as it went on, trying to get to grips with the pitch, the heat and the circumstances," Gonzalo said. "We took the lead and then we really upped the pressure in the second half and perhaps we deserved to take the three points. But we're happy with the performance, it's just a shame we couldn't get the win." Real Madrid and Pachuca are set to face off at 3 p.m. EDT Sunday at Bank of America Stadium. Madrid will meet RB Salzburg of Germany's Bundesliga in their final Club World Cup group stage match at 9 p.m. June 26 in Philadelphia.

Albania International Sees 'Many Positive Things' Despite Inter Milan False Start At FIFA Club World Cup

Kristjan Asllani fared well in last night's 1-1 draw between CF Monterrey and Inter Milan in their FIFA Club World Cup opener. Speaking to Sportitalia via FCInterNews, the Albania international hailed the team's performance at the Rose Bowl. Advertisement It wasn't an ideal touchline debut for new boss Cristian Chivu. Despite strong pre-match favoritism, Inter couldn't beat the Liga MX giants in their curtain-raising Group E fixture. Indeed, ex-Real Madrid captain Sergio Ramos opened the scoring with a trademark header. However, Inter leveled the score on the stroke of halftime through Lautaro Martinez. Though the Nerazzurri dominated proceedings in Pasadena, they couldn't turn the game on its head. Meanwhile, Asllani deputized for the injured Hakan Calhanoglu and played a significant role in the equalizer. His inch-perfect set-piece delivery cracked Monterrey's defense wide open before Carlos Augusto set El Toro up on a platter. (Photo by) Inter conceded from the only shot on target. Advertisement However, a lack of composure in front of goal saw them waste numerous presentable chances on either side of halftime. Despite a gut-wrenching result, Asllani insists there were 'positives' in Chivu's first game in charge. 'There were a lot of positive things, unfortunately, we conceded a goal from a set piece,' he claimed. 'We have to improve, but there were many positive aspects. 'It's a shame about the result because we really wanted to win, now we focus on the next match. 'Chivu? There's not much difference, we played with the same formation as in recent years. 'He asks us for more pressing and we did well with that. Unfortunately, as I said, we conceded from a set piece. Advertisement 'We had only practiced them for a day; we need to improve and we'll keep working on that. The goal is not to concede. 'Physically, we're in good shape, maybe there's a bit of mental fatigue, but that shouldn't affect us. 'We've been with our national teams -some played, some didn't – but we need to work harder because we want to get through the group. 'We can also play with a 3-4-2-1 – we did it last year too – but that shouldn't change what we want, which is to win,' he continued. 'It was definitely hot, but it was the same for the other team. 'We have to adapt to what the coach asks of us, improve our pressing, and keep playing almost man-to-man. With time, we'll get better.'

Ramos backs Madrid for Club glory

Veteran Monterrey defender Sergio Ramos said Monday his former team Real Madrid must be considered favourites to win the Club World Cup. Paris Saint-Germain recently won the UEFA Champions League by thrashing Inter Milan in the final, with Liga MX side Monterrey set to face the Italians in their opener yesterday at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena. However Ramos, now 39, believes his former club, Spanish giants Madrid, are the real team to beat. 'Real Madrid are always favourites in the big competitions,' Ramos told reporters ahead of the Group E clash against Inter. 'Real Madrid are the best in the world, for the level the club and players have, for the mentality that's been sewn in there for so many years.' Madrid have a new coach in Xabi Alonso as well as recent arrivals Trent Alexander-Arnold and Dean Huijsen. 'Xabi's arrival will be interesting, he won it all as a player and he knows how the club works,' said Ramos. 'That could help him a lot in this new era.' Ramos said Madrid's failure to win a major trophy this season was not down to last summer's marquee signing Kylian Mbappe, whom he played with at PSG. 'In the next five or 10 years, I'd wager that Kylian will take four or five Ballon d'Or awards home,' said Ramos. The former Real Madrid captain departed in 2021 and said he would prefer not to face his former side in the United States. 'Facing off against your old team-mates is always nice but if we won't meet that would be a lot better -- and both them and us can avoid that discomfort,' he added. Madrid open their campaign in Miami today against Saudi Arabian side Al Hilal.
