Pics: Massive drug smuggling tunnel shut down by Border Patrol
U.S. Border Patrol agents recently uncovered and shut down a roughly 3,00-foot-long drug smuggling tunnel under the southern border between the United States and Mexico. In a Wednesday press release, U.S. Customs and Border Protection announced that Border Patrol agents 'uncovered and disabled a large-scale narcotics smuggling tunnel' that connected Tijuana, Mexico, to San Diego, California. The press release noted that the tunnel was 'highly sophisticated' and extended over 1,000 feet into the United States. Customs and Border Protection explained that the San Diego Sector Tunnel Team's Border Patrol agents discovered the tunnel when it was being constructed in early April and determined that its projected exit point was either inside or near a commercial warehouse space in San Diego. 'The investigation revealed the tunnel was equipped with electrical wiring, lighting, ventilation systems, and a track system designed for transporting large quantities of contraband,' Customs and Border Protection stated. During the Border Patrol's initial investigation of the tunnel, agents discovered 'makeshift barricades' that were placed 'haphazardly' in an effort to prevent officials from identifying the origin of the tunnel in Mexico. 'Inside, the tunnel dimensions measured 42 inches in height, 28 inches in width and ran approximately 50 feet underground at its deepest point.' According to the press release, Border Patrol agents coordinated with Homeland Security Investigations and Mexican officials on Monday to locate the tunnel's origin in Tijuana, Mexico. Officials also confirmed that the nearly 3,000-foot tunnel has been scheduled for 'immediate remediation' by Border Patrol agents and that thousands of gallons of concrete will be poured into the tunnel to prevent terrorist organizations from using the tunnel for smuggling operations in the future.

LA anchor's comment about riots sparks mass viewer outrage
An anchor's wording while reporting on the Los Angeles riots has spawned a firestorm on social media after he appeared to warn that cops should be wary when responding to offenders who had been burning cars. 'It could turn very volatile if you move law enforcement in there the wrong way and turn what is just a bunch of people having fun watching cars burn into a massive confrontation and altercation between officers and demonstrators,' ABC7's Jory Rand urged, as his network's helicopter filmed a car set ablaze by protesters. Quick to take note of the characterization were several on X, who tore into the anchor and his coverage. The far-right Libs of TikTok, for instance, re-shared the footage and wrote: 'Yes. He really said that.' 'Is this how Democrats have fun now that Trump is getting rid of the fentanyl?' another joked. 'If patriots protested like that, the narrative would flip overnight,' someone else sniped. A post for Libs of TikTok initially erroneously identified one of Rand's co-anchors as the owner of the quote - sparing him from some of the outrage. The clip, meanwhile, was taken out of context, with Rand also labeling the burning of cars 'abhorrent' and acts of vandalism at other points in his coverage. 'This is obviously not something we want to see,' he said separately. 'We don't want to see cars burning in the streets, we don't want to see these acts of vandalism.' The chaos was triggered Friday by immigration raids that resulted in dozens of arrests of what authorities say are illegal migrants and gang members. Police ordered the public to disperse from downtown overnight after an intense day of demonstrations in the region. Around 300 National Guard troops were deployed to the region, spurring anger and fear among many residents. "Continued chaotic federal sweeps, across California, to meet an arbitrary arrest quota are as reckless as they are cruel," a statement from the governor read. During the riots, ICE officers were targeted with violence that included throwing rocks and other projectiles along with vandalism in the form of graffiti calling for violence against ICE officers. U.S. Border Patrol Chief Michael Banks shared a photo of one Border Patrol agent's bloody hand, which was injured by a rock flying through the windshield. Federal sources said agents could have been killed by the flying debris and several officers have been reported as injured during the rioting. ICE agents captured the "worst of the worst" criminal illegal immigrants during Friday operations, including murderers, sex offenders and other violent criminals, the agency said Sunday. About 45 people were arrested across several locations, including two Home Depot stores, a store in the fashion district and a doughnut shop. "Why do Governor Newsom and Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass care more about violent murderers and sex offenders than they do about protecting their own citizens?" asked Department of Homeland Security Assistant Secretary Tricia McLaughlin. "These rioters in Los Angeles are fighting to keep rapists, murderers, and other violent criminals loose on Los Angeles streets," she said.
