On Wednesday, the world learned of the sad passing of Wilson through an Instagram post from his family, which stated: "We are heartbroken to announce that our beloved father Brian Wilson has passed away. We are at a loss for words right now. Please respect our privacy at this time as our family is grieving. We realize that we are sharing our grief with the world. Love and Mercy." As tributes flooded in from around the world for the visionary artist who crafted hits such as I Get Around, Good Vibrations, and God Only Knows, Paul McCartney joined in honouring Brian's indelible impact on the music scene. In a poignant Instagram post, McCartney shared his admiration: "Brian had that mysterious sense of musical genius that made his songs so achingly special. The notes he heard in his head and passed to us were simple and brilliant at the same time." Adding a personal touch, Paul reflected on his relationship with the music legend: "I loved him, and was privileged to be around his bright shining light for a little while. How we will continue without Brian Wilson, 'God Only Knows.", reports the Mirror US. McCartney, renowned for his own legacy in music with The Beatles, has not shied away from expressing his high regard for the talent of the Beach Boys frontman, reciprocated by Brian's open appreciation for The Beatles' work. Back in 2000, Paul McCartney had the privilege of ushering Brian Wilson into the Songwriters Hall of Fame, saying at the time, "In the '60s, particularly, he wrote some music that when I played it, it made me cry and I don't quite know why. It wasn't necessarily the words or the music, it's just something so deep in it, that there's only certain pieces of music that can do this to me." He continued, praising Wilson with, "I think it's a sign of great genius to be able to do that with a bunch of music and a bunch of notes. And this man, he deserves to be in the Hall of Fame, that's for sure." The iconic 'Let It Be' artist has often expressed his adoration for The Beach Boys' classic hit 'God Only Knows', previously hailing it as the "greatest song ever written" during the nineties. Paul echoed this sentiment in 2003 within the pages of Charles Granata's tome 'Wouldn't it Be Nice: Brian Wilson and the Making of the Beach Boys' Pet Sounds'. On Radio 1, in an earnest chat back in 2007, McCartney disclosed, "God Only Knows is one of the few songs that reduces me to tears every time I hear it. It's really just a love song, but it's brilliantly done. It shows the genius of Brian." Born in Inglewood, southern California, in 1942, Brian Wilson captured hearts worldwide through his exceptional songwriting prowess. Their band, which came to be known as The Beach Boys, burst onto the scene with their inaugural track 'Surfin'' released in 1961. His career flourished as he took on multiple roles within the band, including songwriter, producer, co-lead vocalist, bassist, and keyboardist. Glasgow show to celebrate The Beatles' Paul McCartney
The McCartney Songbook, featuring the music of the legendary Sir Paul McCartney, is set to be staged at the Glasgow Royal Concert Hall on June 19. The production will feature more than 30 hit songs, including hit tracks from The Beatles, performed by The McCartney Songbook Band. Artis' brother Stevon and sister PraiseJesus were cheerleaders online when voting opened at the top of the broadcast, 2 p.m. Monday, and closed at the final commercial break less than two hours later. The theme of the evening was 'Judges' Song Contest.' Each contestant was given the choice of three songs, chosen for them anonymously, one by each judge. Artis' choices were 'Let It Be, ' by the Beatles ; 'Northern Attitude, ' by Noah Kahan ; and 'Faithfully, ' by Journey. Artis chose 'Faithfully.' The evening also had a wild-card element. After 'American Idol ' host Ryan Seacrest announced the names of the Top 6 vote-getters, the judge or judges whose song suggestions had been selected by the most contestants had the option of saving one of the bottom two. Judges Luke Bryan and Lionel Richie had tied for the most suggestions taken. They saved Mattie Pruitt and Josh King was eliminated. And so, Artis, Hawaii-born and raised, now living in Nashville, Tenn., will spend the rest of the week preparing for the next round of 'American Idol ' competition on Mother's Day. 'I've been trying to push myself as always, ' he said. 'There's so much tension and so much stress and uncertainty, and its even more than just the competition shrinking down. Every week you're saying goodbye to some of your closest friends that you've cultivated over the last four months.' Artis added that he's found that a moderate amount of stress can inspire growth. 'When I'm comfortable, I think that's when bad things are able to develop. When I'm uncomfortable, I start to grow and see a new side of where I am as an artist.' Performing each week on 'American Idol ' has given him a lot of room to grow. 'There's so much production (on the show ) that you can almost kind of lose yourself in it. And so it's been wonderful to learn how to navigate it all, how to ask for the things that I want and then to balance it all. But at the same time it's been really fun for me to take on each challenge that they present to me. That's why when I'm on each round, I'm trying to find ways to elevate, trying to find ways to show new notes of who I am.' For instance, when Artis was competing for a place in the Top 8, he played a grand piano instead of an acoustic guitar and sang Adele's hit 'When We Were Young ' with a cellist accompanying him. In career terms, Artis is learning things about the entertainment business that will serve him for a lifetime. 'When I start touring at larger scale, I'll start with some of the stage design (I've seen here ), find out the instrumentation that I want to do, the sound that I'm really searching for. The beautiful thing is that trying out so many different genres and ways to push myself has really helped me kind of find a focal point of like, 'Hey, where's my strong suit when I run a tour ? Where do I really want to focus, and where's that really (going ) towards as well ?'' 'American Idol ' competition continues Sunday.
