Thorpe Astley children's playground destroyed in fire
Playground equipment valued at more than £9,000 has been destroyed in a fire in Thorpe Astley.A spokesperson for Leicestershire Fire and Rescue Service (LFRS) said it received a a call about smoke coming from the village park off Lakin Drive at 07:22 BST on Town Council said the climbing frame, playhouse and slide had been damaged in the Police said it had received a call at 07:45 reporting play equipment had been set alight, adding no arrests had been made and inquiries were ongoing. The town council said its CCTV showed a fire was started at about 00:30 at the playground, which has been taped off by ground added its crew had discovered the playground equipment "smouldering" and "completely destroyed".Anyone with information has been asked to contact police.

Driver arrested after three injured in crash
A driver has been arrested after three people were injured in a crash outside a village in Leicestershire. Emergency services were called to reports of the single-vehicle crash in Tamworth Road, near Appleby Magna at 13:56 BST on Saturday. Three people have been taken to hospital - one with serious injuries - following the crash, Leicestershire Police said. One person has been arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving. Paramedics from East Midlands Ambulance Service and Leicestershire Fire and Rescue Service were also at the scene. Police said the road remained closed shortly before 18:00. Man gets stuck up tree as he tries to rescue parrot in Thurnby
Firefighters were called to rescue a man who got stuck up a tree he had climbed in an attempt to rescue his pet Fire and Rescue Service said it was called to Manor Field Play Park, off Uppingham Road in Thurnby, at about 09:20 BST on Thursday after the bird flew up into high branches."The owner climbed up to rescue their pet parrot, which was stuck in the tree and needed help to get down," a fire service spokesperson used an aerial ladder to reach the man and Uppingham Road was closed until 11:00 as the rescue was carried out.

Multiple fire crews were called to Leicester Royal Infirmary after a fire broke out on the ground floor of the hospital. Leicestershire Fire and Rescue first received reports of a smell of smoke in the restaurant area of the infirmary at 22:55 BST on Saturday. It initially sent six crews to the scene, though 10 appliances were fighting the fire at the height of the incident. Leicestershire Police and East Midlands Ambulance Service were also at the scene. Crews began damping down by 01:39 and finally left the hospital at 06:30 on Sunday. An investigation into the cause of the fire is due to be carried out.
