Castore roars louder in rugby with Leicester Tigers becoming latest team partnership

UK premium sportswear retail brand Castore is on the rugby kit partnership trail again, tying up another long-term partnership, this time with English team Leicester Tigers. The signing will bring Castore's association with Gallagher Premiership teams to five, now supplying its performance sportswear to half of the league's teams, joining Saracens, Bath, Harlequins and Exeter Chiefs. Launching in August ahead of the new season, Castore will provide the Tigers' teams with playing kit, training wear, and athleisure for the men's, women's, wheelchair and academy squads. As part of this strategic partnership, Castore will oversee kit manufacturing as well as the club's physical and online retail operations, 'enhancing fan access to Leicester Tigers merchandise'. Supporters will also be able to purchase the new range at Castore's Leicester Highcross store. This agreement represents Castore's continued investment in elite rugby and is in addition to Castore's new partnership with England Rugby, signed in April ahead of the Women's Rugby World Cup this summer. It will see the Red Roses sporting Castore-branded kit for the first time and 'setting the momentum for next season'. Tom Beahon, co-founder of Castore, added that the Tigers partnership "marks another step in our mission to support world-class teams with world-class apparel. This represents our full dedication to investing in rugby in this country, both at the elite club level with Tigers and others, and at national level, with England Rugby also sporting the Castore wings.' Leicester Tigers chief executive Andrea Pinchen also said: 'Castore's expertise in curating retail experiences was a major reason for choosing them as our technical partner and to have them managing our retail arm for the club moving forward. Additionally, with a flagship store in the Highcross centre, we are delighted that Leicester Tigers merchandise will once again be available in the centre of our great city.'

From dancing to dodging tackles - McGhie's journey to World Cup

Transferable skills often go a long way in sport and Francesca McGhie certainly sees the benefit of years ago, her main pursuit was as a dancer at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland, but it was a path which didn't enthuse her mum saw a social media advert for a girls rugby team in Prestonpans, and the rest is 21-year-old Scotland winger is now using her fleetness of foot to dodge incoming tackles and bolt to the line."I was excited to try something new, and just fell in love with it," said McGhie. "Fourteen-year-old me would be very proud."McGhie was first called up to represent the senior Scotland squad in 2023 and made her debut against England, where she now plies her trade with Leicester Tigers in the country where she will take part in her maiden Rugby World still eight weeks away, but if the recent training camp is anything to go by, those couple of months will pass in a flash."I think it's going to fly in," said McGhie."These last three weeks have gone super fast. We've enjoyed every second of it and all of us are just super excited to get stuck into this World Cup."Awaiting in Scotland's pool are Canada, Wales and Fiji - ranked second, 10th and 16th in the world respectively, compared to Scotland's seventh."We have a very competitive pool," said McGhie, who has amassed 24 caps already."Each team brings something different and we'll have to adapt to that. "It'll be exciting to play Canada, I've never played them before. Wales is a competitor we play every year and they're always an exciting for us, and Fiji are totally different from both of them."The target for Scotland will be to finish in top two of that pool to earn a quarter-final despite the showpiece tournament not being in a more far-flung location, McGhie is convinced it'll be a tremendous sporting and life experience."It would be great to travel elsewhere but when you're in it you'll feel like you're floating around somewhere in the rugby bubble," she said.

Foundations for Tigers success in place

Michael Cheika says he leaves Leicester Tigers knowing it is a club capable adding to its record 11 Premiership titles in the coming 58-year-old Australian's final match at the helm of the East Midlands club was Saturday's narrow 23-21 Grand Final defeat by decorated former Australia and Argentina boss, who was also previously at the helm of Leinster, New South Wales Waratahs and Stade Francais, re-established Tigers as a highfliers in his solitary season at Mattioli Woods Welford Road after they finished eighth in the Premiership 12 months will be replaced by former England and Tigers lock Geoff Parling after the 41-year-old finishes his commitments as Australia assistant coach this summer."I hope they will have some foundations here that they can go on and deliver Championships over the next few years," Cheika told BBC Radio Leicester."The basis of a great playing squad is there." The squad that Parling inherits will be one without a cast of iconic Tigers at Twickenham marked the end of the careers of scum-half Ben Youngs and prop Dan Cole - England's two most capped male players in history, who also shared nine Premiership titles between England full-back Mike Brown, who was left out of the decider, has also retired, while Tigers captain Julian Montoya and two-time World Cup winning South African fly-half Handre Pollard has left the who said after the final defeat that he will "forever be a Leicester fan now", insists the club is "in a good spot" despite the number of departures."You lose some big players but there are some great youngsters coming through at Leicester, and we are always going to be competitive," he in former team-mate Parling, Youngs sees a rookie head coach capable of bringing "fresh enthusiasm" to a club that has already been rejuvenated by Cheika."Michael Cheika has been there , done it and seen it all - he has all the experience in the world," Youngs said."Geoff will be desperate to make an impression because it is his first time as the head guy. And it is a group that has come so close, so they will be thirsty and desperate to come here [Twickenham] to do one better."The three tries Tigers scored in the Grand Final defeat came from players remaining at the club, with two of them coming from homegrown stars in England scrum-half Jack van Poortvliet and flanker Emeka Ilione, who earned his first call-up to the senior national side this Tigers and England winger Tom Varndell, who is a match summariser on BBC Radio Leicester, says Parling will need "patience and time to grow" in the role after seeing Leicester come so far in just one season under the hugely experience Cheika."It is going to be tough for Geoff in the first half of the season, he has get to know all the guys, and the players will have to buy into his gameplan, his way of thinking and his coaching," Varndell said. "It's not going to be plain sailing. We must not lose focus that this is a completely new look squad and team, and it is going to take time for Geoff to get the squad to where he wants it."But Varndell says there will be "a lot of positive energy" after Cheika had them challenging for silverware once more."From where they had been 12 months ago to where they are now is incredible," he said."For them to get to the final, I really couldn't have imagined that 12 months ago so the progression has been really positive."The important thing now is how they kick on for next season."
