‘Amazing Race Canada' Maker Insight Productions Promotes Trio To Co-Chief Content Officer Roles
EXCLUSIVE: Canada's Insight Productions has promoted a trio of execs to Co-Chief Content Officer. Erin Brock, Lindsay Cox and Mark Lysakowski have all assumed the role, effective immediately, with the three overseeing the Amazing Race Canada and Big Brother Canada producer's output. Alongside CEO and Chairman John Brunton, they will also steer strategic planning and expansion plans. All three continue to report to Brunton. In further news, Alison Popowich, who assists with corporate strategy and planning, has been named Director of Corporate Affairs. Insight recently announced casting is underway for Paramount+ series Canada Shore (working title), the local version of MTV's Jersey Shore. Brock is serving as showrunner. Today's news also follow Brunton and Michel St-Cyr, executive producer and founding shareholder of Groupe Fair-Play, partnering their companies to develop and produce projects in both official Canadian languages across multiple genres including formats, variety, live specials, competition reality, and social experiment, potentially shooting English and French versions concurrently. The partnership, initiated and overseen by Brunton and Cox, sees the two companies developing original content to expand their footholds domestically and internationally. In this newly formed role, she will oversee a pipeline of original scripted series, reporting to CPI co-founders and sibling filmmaking duo Tassie Cameron and Amy Cameron. The Canadian national began her career as a TV packaging assistant at Creative Artists Agency in Los Angeles. 'I have long admired Tassie and Amy's passion for storytelling and the bold and engaging work they've created at Cameron Pictures,' says Karen. 'I'm honoured to join such an accomplished team and excited to champion fresh voices and ambitious projects for a global audience.' Cameron Pictures has also promoted Caledonia Brown from co-producer to supervising producer and Vice President, Operations. Thousands step up in support of health care at UHN Foundation's We Walk UHNITED presented by Rogers English
Other special guests included JUNO Award-nominated singer-songwriter Aphrose, who sang the national anthem during closing ceremonies; Rick Mercer, who delivered an impactful speech about Canadian health care; JUNO Award-winning Aysanabee; actor KC Collins (Law & Order Toronto: Criminal Intent); JUNO Award-winning rapper and music producer Kardinal Offishall; and Olympian Sam Schachter. Maria Papadakis and Shem Parkinson from KiSS 92.5's Roz and Mocha Show brought energy and enthusiasm as event emcees, with fellow on-air personality Damnit Maurie working the crowd. Lead ambassadors Sangita Patel and Madison Tevlin shared their personal UHN stories and helped pump up the crowd before leading participants on the walk route. ‘Law & Order Toronto' wins best drama series at Canadian Screen Awards
Citytv's 'Law & Order Toronto: Criminal Intent' won best drama series at Sunday's Canadian Screen Awards. The spinoff draws inspiration from real Toronto crime headlines, reimagining them as fictional investigations. The show led all nominees with 20 nods going into the Screen Awards, but came away with three trophies, including best writing in a drama series and best sound in fiction. The series wrapped its second season earlier this year and has a third season in the works. 'Law & Order Toronto' producer Erin Haskett told The Canadian Press in March that she believes the show is especially resonating with Canadians today because they are craving stories they can relate to. 'Canadians want to see our stories told and want to see characters that reflect ourselves back at us on television,' she says. 'I would say today even more, there's such a sense of wanting to see that reflected back as a country and as a people.' This year's Canadian Screen Awards bash was hosted by Edmonton-born comedian Lisa Gilroy in Toronto, capping off a multi-day celebration of Canadian film, television and digital storytelling. 'The Apprentice,' a Canada-Ireland-Denmark co-production about the early years of U.S. President Donald Trump, won best motion picture. It took home five Screen Awards in total, including best performance in a lead role for Sebastian Stan's turn as Trump, and best supporting actor for Jeremy Strong's portrayal of Cohn. Other major winners included Matthew Rankin's absurdist dramedy 'Universal Language,' and Crave's drag queen competition series 'Canada's Drag Race.'
