2025 Langer Trophy live stream: Ipswich SHS v Palm Beach Currumbin SHS, Round 3

The younger brother of a former Blues Origin series winner shapes as shock weapon for Ipswich State High in its quest for the Langer Trophy. It took just two touches for underage teenager Baxter Best, the 16-year-old brother of Knights tearaway Bradman, to leave a palm-sized mark on the Langer Trophy last week. The boom rookie, who signed a four year deal with the Brisbane Broncos earlier this year, showed a similar stiff arm which helped his brother into a Blues jersey last year as he set up the match-sealing try against Marsden. Ipswich will be hoping Best can produce a few more of those as the school prepares to face off against reigning national champions Palm Beach Currumbin at North Ipswich Reserve on Tuesday. The match will be streamed live and exclusive at 5.30pm on KommunityTV through Ipswich State High coach Joshua Bretherton said his intention was to give the rookie a 10 minute taster in his debut. But an injury in the outside backs forced his hand early, and Best rose to the occasion. 'We felt that the best thing to do was to try and challenge him,' said Bretherton. 'To try put him out of his comfort zone. 'I thought he did a really solid job. 'I asked him to do some simple things defensively on exit and stuff and he did those things for me which is what I am most proud of. 'He did the team contribution stuff he needed to do and when the game broke open for him, he was able to do the bits everyone knows he can do.' Palm Beach Currumbin come into the clash against Ipswich with some form after bouncing back in Round 2 with a 24-12 win over Wavell State High.

2025 Langer Trophy live stream: Keebra Park SHS v Wavell SHS, Round 3

Don't miss out on the headlines from Rugby League Live Stream. Followed categories will be added to My News. It has been more than 20 years since a touch football phenom lit up the back ovals of Keebra Park State High School, leaving a trail of broken ankles in his wake. His name was Benji Marshall – a sidestepping freak of nature that made Keebra Park must-watch TV in the run to the old Arrive Alive Cup's national finals. Now, 22 years later, Benji's heir apparent may have arrived on the Gold Coast. His name is David Bryenton and two dizzying tries against Mabel Park last week – one scored himself, the other served up on a platter for winger Christopher Vaimili – has ignited fresh debate over whether Marshall will go down as the sickest 'stepper to emerge from Keebra Park. Keebra Park fullback David Bryenton has created havoc for defenders in the Langer Trophy. Picture Glenn Hampson School coach Peter Norman wisely will not fan the flame of comparison but is happy to let the KommunityTV audience judge for itself at 5pm on Tuesday. Keebra Park will clash with Wavell State High in the Langer Trohpy, with the double header action, which includes the Walters Cup, exclusively live streamed on KommunityTV. 'I'm not going to go on record saying David has the best footwork I've ever seen, but he is special,' Norman said. 'I don't want to heap pressure on the kid by drawing comparisons to Benji, but you can see that yourself. 'I'm super confident that even if wanted to do touch on the side of football that he'd walk into the Australian touch team.' Keebra fullback David Bryenton could 'walk into the Australian touch team'. Picture Glenn Hampson It's high praise because Norman is a current Australian touch football representative himself. The honour roll of touch stars to graduate to NRL stardom includes Kalyn Ponga, AJ Brimson, Matt Moylan, Shaun Johnston, Jayden Campbell, Ryan Papenhuyzen and the trailblazing Keebra product Marshall. 'Benji Marshall was the OG (original) to come through touch football at Keebra Park and he had an outstanding career in the NRL. Just about anyone who is that 'x-factor' guy in the NRL these days has come through a touch background,' Norman said. Benji Marshall during his schooling days at Keebra Park State High. Marshall debuted in the NRL while still at the school. Picture: Adam Ward 'It's just the speed of the game. Touch is a lot faster than rugby league so it expedites decision making and execution of skill. You come back to rugby league from playing touch and it feels like everything's happening in slow motion.' Perhaps that is why the Bulldogs-contracted full-back's untouchable left-foot step has led Keebra Park to the top of the Langer Trophy ladder after two weeks. The Blue Wall's unbeaten record will face its sternest test yet with Wavell State High School's own sidestepping expert Charlie Webb at halfback. 2025 Langer Trophy live stream: Ipswich SHS v Palm Beach Currumbin SHS, Round 3

Don't miss out on the headlines from Schoolboy Cup Livestream. Followed categories will be added to My News. He was given a baptism of fire against a tough Marsden State High in his Langer Trophy debut, and Ipswich's Baxter Best more than stood up to the challenge. But what will be in store for the younger brother of Blues Origin series winner Bradman when he clashes with the might of reigning national champions Palm Beach Currumbin? That match will be streamed live and free on KommunityTV on Tuesday afternoon, headlining a big triple header which features the Walters Cup (Year 10) and Schoolgirls Cup. A full News Corp Australia digital subscription will be required to watch the Walters Cup and Schoolgirls Cup. There is a storied history between Ipswich and Palm Beach Currumbin, with the two schools meeting in back-to-back Langer Trophy deciders between 2022-23. Another chapter of that pulsating new rivalry will be unfold at the North Ipswich Reserve from 5.30pm. Palm Beach Currumbin enter round 3 with a 24-4 confidence-boosting win over Wavell behind them. Picture: Liam Kidston Ipswich only just escaped the Makos by the skin of their teeth in round 2, with Best brilliant when he was thrust into the fray earlier than first anticipated. 'I said 'unless there's an injury, I'll put you on with about 20 minutes to go and we will give you an experience',' coach Josh Bretherton said. Unfortunately it was a concussion to right centre Tomu Cook early in the match that created the opportunity for Best, 16, to show his wares as the youngest on the field. With just his second touch of the ball, Best made a brilliant break and set up a defining try to fullback Tom Parker. Best's sound performance was a great early indication of his ability to play above his age. The Year 10 student is a rare breed because to accelerate his development, he is bypassing the Walters Cup to play Opens football. Reece Walsh (Keebra Park) and Jared Horne (current Wavell senior) are a few others to have done this. Wavell SHS senior Jared Horne, pictured as a Year 9 student, made his Langer Trophy debut in Year 10 and is making his way back from a patella fracture in his knee. 'We felt that the best thing to do was to try and challenge him,' said Bretherton. 'To try put him out of his comfort zone.' Best thrived in the new environment. 'I thought he did a really solid job,' Bretherton said. 'I asked him to do some simple things defensively on exit and stuff and he did those things for me which is what I am most proud of. 'He did the team contribution stuff he needed to do and when the game broke open for him, he was able to do the bits everyone knows he can do.' Baxter Best gets the ball away to Tom Parker. Picture courtesy of Jack O'Brien. His positive touches and runs from right centre were welcomed given the turbulent lead up to Wednesday's game that saw Ipswich lose both its edge forwards. Starting second rowers Innocent Baruani (concussion protocol) and Elsiyah Laumatia (ankle) were both late outs in the 24 hours leading up to the round 2 heavyweight bout, with Laumatia rolling his ankle the morning of. With Ipswich lacking two potent forwards, Mel Nonu stepped up to produce a titanic performance on the wing. Nonu, the younger brother of Dolphins young gun LJ, caught high balls extremely well under pressure and when his teammates were tiring late in the game, he maintained a high standard. He caught the ball all alone with Marsden defenders rushing forward and carried the ball out of the Ipswich half with vim and vigour. 'He kept showing up and carrying. I couldn't be more proud. He was so, so valuable,' Bretherton praised. Nonu's rapid rise to being one of the first picked each week for Ipswich is the product of a strong pre-season. Mel Nonu has been outstanding in 2025. Last year Nonu was getting better with every game in the Langer Reserves competition before going on to start all nine matches in this year's Mal Meninga Cup for the Jets. 'We thought he could play at this level but that he was going to have to work hard to get to this level and there was no guarantee he would've done it this year,' Bretherton reflected. 'When he rolled back in (after the summer holidays) and obviously watching how well he played for the Jets, it was like 'oh he will do it easy'. 'He was just a completely different player.' He will assume full control of the Reds following a cruel pre-season injury blow to experienced playmaker Marley McLaren and the graduation of 2024 Peter Sterling Medallist Zane Harrison. McLaren will aim to be back for the finals, but in the meantime Lateo will assume the senior halves' role. PBC SHS players Marley McLaren and Taj lateo with Broncos legend Kevin Walters after the school won the Walters Cup in 2022. McLaren is again injured and Lateo will be the senior half. It is not the first time Lateo has run the show. He was also the senior half and captain of PBC's 2022 Walters Cup-winning side after McLaren went down with a wrist injury. 'He will run the team and will be fine,'' PBC SHS coach Tim Maccan said. 'He did that for South Coast recently, he took the steering wheel and managed really well. 'At Mal Meninga Cup level, he stepped in this season when Zane Harrison and Javon Andrews were out (for Tweed Seagulls).'' Mabel Park SHS coach Ben Weston said starting strongly was crucial in the Langer Trophy this season.
