LABETTE COUNTY, Kan. — Southeast Kansas authorities arrested a man last week who was reportedly carrying 17 fake IDs, and treasury checks. Officers say they uncovered 17 fake IDs with Wood's picture, over $8,000 in cash and 10 Treasury checks made out to each fake identity, the office said; five of which had already been cashed in Tulsa. In addition to the stop, deputies say the cash tested positive for methamphetamine in a field test. Wood was arrested and booked at the Labette County Jail. He faces 38 felony charges including counterfeiting currency, identity theft, forgery, and interference with a law enforcement officer. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved. Traffic stop in Labette County uncovers meth lab; 4 arrested
LABETTE COUNTY, Kan. — Authorities say four people were arrested over the weekend after a traffic stop in Labette County led to the discovery of a mobile meth lab. SEE ALSO: Man arrested in southeast Kansas had 17 fake IDs, treasury checks, police say Deputies with the Labette County Sheriff's Office stopped a vehicle in the early morning hours Sunday at the intersection of Heacock and Grand Streets in Parsons reportedly for a defective headlight. The vehicle was also sniffed by a K-9 during the stop, which officers say gave a positive ID for narcotics. Austin Pollard, 29, of Parsons, was searched as part of the investigation and was reportedly found to be carrying a white bag plus digital scales. Inside the truck they found several firearms including a sawed-off shotgun, the sheriff's office said. A serial number check for one of the handguns came back stolen as well. In the pickup's bed the two deputies say that's where they found a meth lab. With the help of Parsons Police Department, the deputies conducted a probation search of Pollard's home and located additional firearms, drugs, and drug paraphernalia. Pollard, Jordan Titmus, 31, Alexander Houghton, 31, and Cienna Best, 23 were arrested and booked into Labette County Jail on pending charges of possession of methamphetamines, manufacturing methamphetamines, possession of stolen weapons, and child endangerment. Labette County 911 calls drop in 2024
LABETTE COUNTY, Kan. — The Labette County dispatch reports a decrease in its number of calls last year. The Labette County Sheriff's Office announced a total of 5,972 emergency calls in 2024. That's a drop from the total of 6,138 back in 2023. The overall total shows an increase in calls related to traffic stops, medical emergencies, fires, and officer-initiated items. Labette County Emergency Communications 911 Director Brandy Scott says these numbers can help dispatchers be more accountable to the public and help law enforcement pinpoint certain areas. Scott adds that in some cases, an increase in calls could be related to weather—such as droughts leading to more fires or snow leading to more people in ditches. But when people call 911—and for what reason—could play a role in slightly skewing the numbers as well. 'But if you see something that needs to be reported but isn't really an emergency, you can go ahead and report it in. And I think that's why you see our overall calls went up just a little bit, but our 911 calls actually went down. I think the general public's doing better about using 911 only when 911 is needed,' said Scott. Scott says this year, dispatch started a new app called 'Lightning'—which allows the sheriff's office to have full access to the 911 map. For example, if a dispatcher is on a call, either via phone or video chat, the responding officer can see where that person is and go from there. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc.
