Golf roundup: Alex tops the field at Eagle Creek

May 13—WILLMAR — The Alexandria boys golf team finished six-under-par en route to victory in a Central Lakes Conference meet hosted by Willmar at Eagle Creek Golf Club. Alexandria, which had its four scoring golfers in the top 8, totaled a 282 on Tuesday. That score was low enough to beat Brainerd's 291 and Willmar's 301. Advertisement Brainerd's Jack Hagberg and Alexandria's Henry Buttweiler and Blake Scholl finished in a three-way tie for first place. All three carded three-under-par 69s. Willmar's Aden Jacobson cracked into the top 5 with a two-under-par 70. The sophomore shared fourth place with Alexandria's Weston Nyberg. Also making it into the top 10 was Luke Larson for Willmar. The sophomore shot a 74 to tie for eighth place with Alexandria's Carver Larson and Brainerd's Tyler Lehmann. Willmar's boys plays in the North-South Invite at noon Friday at Bemidji Town and Country Club. Detroit Lakes was victorious at a Central Lakes Conference meet hosted by Sauk Rapids. Advertisement The Lakers totaled 310 strokes at Territory Golf Club in St. Cloud. That beat out Alexandria's 337 and Sartell's 346. Willmar finished in fourth place at 348. Alexandria's Ellie Sticha earned medalist honors, shooting a two-over-par 74. Detroit Lakes' Tatum Gatheridge and Sydney Miller rounded out the top 3 by tying for second place at 75. Kennedy Mara and Lucia Martin Rodriguez finished in the top 10 for Willmar. Mara tied Detroit Lakes' Sophie Christianson and Rocori's Bridget Bohnsack for sixth place with a 79 and Martin Rodriguez placed 10th after carding an 82. Willmar's girls compete in the CLC Championship at 3 p.m. Monday at Alexandria Golf Club. Advertisement Dawson-Boyd's girls and Lac qui Parle Valley's boys brought home Camden Conference Championships at Tyler Golf Club. The Blackjacks' girls notched a 336 en route to topping LQPV's 369 and Community Christian School's 399. The Eagles' boys totaled a 315, edging Central Minnesota Christian School's 320 and Lakeview's 325. Dawson-Boyd's boys were fourth at 327. LQPV's Molly Halvorson earned medalist honors in the girls' championship, carding a four-over-par 75. The Blackjacks' Lindsey Lund, Alyssa Swedzinski and Kylar Hjelmeland filled in the top 3. Lund shot a 77, while Swedzinski and Hjelmeland both had 84s to tie for third. Lakeview's Lane Arends and Carson Boe shared medalist honors in the boys' title meet. The seniors tied with matching two-over-par 73s. CMCS' Joseph Graves, LQPV's Carson Besonen and Yellow Medicine East's Cooper McCosh finished in a three-way tie for third place at 76. Advertisement Atwater-Cosmos-Grove City's Brooke Brekke shot a one-over-par 37 to take home medalist honors at a Central Minnesota Conference meet hosted by Paynesville at Koronis Hills Golf Club. The host Bulldogs won with 154 strokes. Osakis and Kimball each scored 176s to tie for second place. Royalton came in fourth at 192. Kinley Barten and Peyton Roeske shared fourth place for Paynesville. The two golfers shot 50s.

Apr. 21—DETROIT LAKES — Willmar junior Kennedy Mara put up a second-place finish at Monday's Central Lakes Conference meet at Detroit Country Club in Detroit Lakes. Mara shot a 4-over 75, finishing behind Detroit Lakes' Tatum Gatheridge. Gatheridge earned medalist honors with a 3-over 74. Advertisement Willmar placed third in the team standings with a score of 343. Detroit Lakes claimed the title with 312, followed by Alexandria with 337. Willmar's Lucia Martin Rodriguez and Raelynn Means both finished in the top 15. Rodriguez, a junior, was 10th with an 86. Means, a freshman, tied for 14th with 89. Willmar has another CLC meet set for 3 p.m. Tuesday at Geneva Golf Course in Alexandria. New London-Spicer took the top four places to win a Wright County Conference dual against Rockford at Shamrock Golf Club in Corcoran. The Wildcats' Rylie Harrier claimed medalist honors with a 9-hole score of 41. Layna Carlson was second with 42, Evangeline Dalton was third with 44 and Hattie Bohlsen was fourth with 47. Advertisement NLS plays a tournament hosted by Paynesville at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Koronis Hills Golf Club. The tournament has two-person teams that play six holes of best ball, six holes of scramble and six holes of alternate shot. The Dawson-Boyd girls and Lac qui Parle Valley boys took the top spots in a Camden Conference North Division meet at Madison Country Club. The Blackjack girls won with 169, beating LQPV's 199 and Community Christian School's 213. D-B's Kylar Hjelmeland claimed medalist honors with a 9-hole score of 38. Teammate Lindsey Lund was second with 42. The LQPV boys tied with Dawson-Boyd with 156 and won with a better finish from its number five golfer. Central Minnesota Christian was third with 159. The Blackjacks' Evan Mork was the medalist with a 36. LQPV's Gavin Carl and Carson Besonen, and CMCS' Eli Gerdes tied for second with 38s. The next Camden North meet is at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Ortonville Golf Course.
