13MP expected to be tabled in Parliament on July 28

PUTRAJAYA: The 13th Malaysia Plan (13MP) is expected to be tabled in Parliament on July 28, MADANI Government spokesman Datuk Fahmi Fadzil said today. Fahmi, who is also the Minister of Communications, said that during today's Cabinet meeting, Economy Ministry secretary-general Datuk Nor Azmie Diron presented a briefing and a brief summary on the implementation of the 13MP. He said Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim had requested all ministries to review the draft presented and provide feedback to the Economy Ministry soon before it is finalised for tabling in Parliament. 'I believe the tabling of the 13MP is expected to take place on July 28, 2025. 'This, Insya-Allah, will be the first Malaysia Plan to be tabled by the Prime Minister (Anwar),' he said at his weekly press conference here. Yesterday, Anwar, who is also the Finance Minister, said that the 13MP would mark a turning point in the government's efforts to address national economic challenges, including development and income gaps, limited fiscal space, and the slow pace of structural economic transition. The 13MP, which covers the 2026-2030 period, is one of the government's key policy documents for implementing the MADANI Economy agenda. On another matter, Fahmi said the Prime Minister also reminded Cabinet members to continue efforts to upgrade and improve 30 schools located in military camps across the country. He added that the Prime Minister was also satisfied with the progress of work on the Littoral Combat Ship (LCS) project by Lumut Naval Shipyard (Lunas), describing it as a commendable achievement. 'Projects like the LCS, which have been successfully undertaken and are able to be completed, including by local engineers, are a proud achievement,' he said.

PM pleased with LCS construction progress, says Fahmi

PUTRAJAYA: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim is satisfied with the development of the first of five littoral combat ships (LCS) being built for the Royal Malaysian Navy, says government spokesman Datuk Fahmi Fadzil. He said this followed Anwar's visit to the Royal Malaysian Navy base in Lumut on Sunday (June 15). 'This achievement proves that despite earlier setbacks, these vessels are now being completed with the involvement of local engineers. 'The second ship is expected to be ready this year, and the third, the following year. "It's a milestone to be proud of,' Fahmi, who is also Communications Minister, told a post-Cabinet meeting press conference here on Wednesday (June 18). ALSO READ: PM reviews LCS progress at Lumut shipyard as construction reaches 72.4% He added that the Cabinet also discussed upgrading 30 schools in military camps nationwide. He said that during Anwar's visit to Lumut, it was announced that RM20mil would be allocated to enhance facilities in these schools. 'These schools do not fall under the Education Ministry's jurisdiction but are under the Defence Ministry. This move is expected to resolve longstanding issues faced by these institutions,' he added. Separately, he said ministers were also briefed on the draft of the 13th Malaysia Plan (13MP) by Economy Ministry secretary-general Datuk Nor Azmie Diron. The plan is expected to be tabled in Parliament on July 28. 'All ministries have been asked to review the draft and provide feedback ahead of the tabling,' he said. Regarding the Online Safety Act, Fahmi said he is awaiting a draft from the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) concerning several regulations under the proposed legislation. 'This includes definitions of what constitutes 'online harm'. 'Once signed, a committee will be formed by the Law Minister to monitor its enforcement," he said. He said the Bill is expected to move forward in the coming weeks. ALSO READ: Fahmi: Implementation of Online Safety Act will be clarified later On another matter, Fahmi said the government will ensure that revenue collected from the expanded sales and service tax (SST) will go to vital sectors such as education and healthcare. 'Finance Minister II Datuk Seri Amir Hamzah Azizan will provide further clarification. 'While the people may have concerns, it's important to know that these funds are being channelled to improve public facilities, and we are taking action to combat misappropriation and corruption,' he said. Fahmi added that the government is also supporting the Malaysian deaf community, including ensuring the involvement of sign language interpreters not just at media events but also in future parliamentary sessions. He also congratulated a sign language interpreter from the community who recently received national recognition. Tan Lee Bee, a veteran interpreter, was conferred the Bintang Ahli Mangku Negara (AMN) by His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim, King of Malaysia, earlier this month.

Anwar: LCS project progress shows govt's commitment

Sharing a light moment: Anwar interacting with members of the Royal Malaysian Navy during his visit of the shipyard in Lumut. — Bernama LUMUT: The progress of the construction of the Littoral Combat Ship (LCS) demonstrates the government's strong commitment towards prioritising national security assets, says Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim. The Prime Minister said it also reflects the importance of good governance so that projects and commitments be delivered without delay. 'We regard the Royal Malaysian Navy as a key line of defence, as our waters are not immune to threats such as terrorism, potential foreign incursions and smuggling. 'That is why I agreed for the LCS project to continue under the Finance Ministry,' he said in his speech at a Kenduri Rakyat programme, Bernama reported. The Prime Minister attributed previous delays involving the project to weak management, governance issues and corruption. 'If the management is poor, how can we ensure maritime security? That is why good governance is essential,' he said. Anwar said the government remains focused on the need to enhance the country's defence assets, with the Defence Ministry being among the ministries receiving the largest allocations in the annual budget. 'Defence ranks third, after education and health. For 2025 alone, RM21.2bil has been allocated, a significant amount for a developing nation,' he said, adding that the move was aimed at ensuring national stability, which is crucial for economic growth. Earlier, Anwar visited the Lumut Naval Shipyard (Lunas) facility to inspect the ongoing LCS construction works and was briefed on the progress of the construction of five LCS units. He expressed satisfaction with the progress of LCS construction, describing it as commendable. The LCS is a class of stealth frigates being built by the Royal Malaysian Navy. At another event, the Prime Minister condemned the lack of response from the international community, especially from Muslim-majority countries, over Israeli attacks on Iran. He lamented the silence of the many wealthy Islamic countries, despite the Muslim population exceeding one billion. 'Islamic countries are rich, but they are not strong. When it comes to defending Iran, not many dare to speak up,' he said. Referring to Israel's attacks on Iran's nuclear and military structure on Friday, Anwar said: 'What sort of country behaves in such a barbaric, treacherous, and insane manner?' When Iran retaliated to defend its dignity, European nations were quick with their condemnation, he pointed out. Anwar said Malaysia is committed to defending the rights of oppressed nations, including Iran, and praised the country's resilience in the face of long-standing economic sanctions. He reaffirmed that Malaysia would stay true to its principle of defending justice on the international stage.

Anwar hails progress on LCS project, stresses importance of good governance

LUMUT, June 15 — Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has expressed his satisfaction with the progress of the Littoral Combat Ship (LCS) construction by Lumut Naval Shipyard (Lunas) at the Royal Malaysian Navy (RMN) base here, describing it as commendable. He said the progress demonstrated the government's strong commitment to prioritising national security assets and reflected the Madani government's emphasis on good governance. 'We regard the RMN as a key line of defence, as our waters are not immune to threats such as terrorism, potential foreign incursions and smuggling. That is why I agreed for the LCS project to continue under the Finance Ministry. 'Previous delays stemmed from weak management, governance issues and corruption. If the management is poor, how can we ensure maritime security? That's why good governance is essential,' he said in his speech at the Kenduri Rakyat programme held in conjunction with the Perak Madani Rakyat Programme 2025 at Shariff Hall, RMN Lumut here today. Also present was Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil. Earlier, the prime minister visited the Lunas facility at the RMN base to inspect the ongoing LCS construction works. Meanwhile, Anwar said the government remains attentive to the need to enhance the country's defence assets, with the Defence Ministry being among the ministries receiving the largest allocations in the annual budget. 'Defence ranks third (in terms of allocation), after education and health. For 2025 alone, RM21.2 billion has been allocated - a significant amount for a developing nation,' he said. He added that the move reflected the government's appreciation of the sacrifices made by the security forces and was aimed at ensuring national stability, which is crucial for economic growth. Anwar also said he is often moved when learning of the poor condition of certain security assets that are still in use to safeguard the nation. 'That's why, upon the formation of the Madani Government, I called in all the armed forces chiefs and asked them to outline their priority needs. Based on that, we work to secure sufficient funding to improve our defence machinery and assets,' he said. — Bernama
