"I also have quite a lot of privacy that I like to keep to myself. "However, the cat has been removed from the bag for a number of different reasons and I'm very, very, very, very, very happy to confirm that I did indeed get engaged to my partner Clare on Thursday evening in the West of Ireland and it is a very beautiful feeling." Continuing, Ryan, who is known in his native Ireland for previously hosting The Late Late Show, said: 'We were surrounded by gorgeous people who we didn't know, strangers in the hotel and people who were working around the place and got a beautiful ring organised and the weather was gorgeous and it's just the accumulation of a lot of lovely things happening and I just decided now is the time." The dad-of-two added: "It's a very exciting time to be alive. I'm a very, very lucky man. "And I think it's one of those beautiful moments where the world feels lighter and there's a whole new adventure ahead so that's what happened, that's in the news a little bit today at home for sure and maybe out and about but yeah... lucky man, beautiful day, and the future is bright.' BECOMING A RADIO STAR Irish star Ryan has enjoyed an incredible career on both the radio and TV. He has been broadcasting industry over the past 20 years and, as well as his Virgin Radio slot every weekday, he also has his own podcast called The Book Shelf. The popular presenter recently made a surprising admission about himself, when it came to appearing on TV. In a candid interview with Mark Moriarty on his Roasted podcast, Ryan said: "I look back at parts of my career and I think, 'what an insufferable pain in the hoop that guy is." Donncha O'Callaghan has Ryan Tubridy in stitches But he was also quick to forgive his previous actions, and added: "And then I look back and say 'fair play, well done' - I'm not self-loathing but there's just… "I think if you're a footballer you have good seasons and bad seasons." LATE LATE SHOW CONFESSION Ryan also recently admitted he does not miss hosting Ireland's The Late Late Show for 'one minute'. He left the show two years ago, with Patrick Kielty stepping in to be the new host Ryan added: 'I haven't seen The Late Late Show since I moved away, and there's no badness in it, it's just because I don't have the RTE Player in London. 'Also, on Friday night I'm normally out and about, or else I travel home to Ireland every two or three weeks. 'I loved presenting it, and I wish everyone well at it. I just need to do other things. I'm embedded in the UK now, so I need to focus on that.' Speaking about his successor, Ryan said: 'I think he's great. I think he has the chops. 'When I said I wanted to leave in March [last year] and they had a few months to pick [someone], he was very close to the top of my list, and by all accounts he's doing grand. So good on him - I wish him well.'
