Twin Peaks star says late director David Lynch was a ‘father figure'

Dana Ashbrook, who played Bobby Briggs in Twin Peaks, reflected on his relationship with the late director David Lynch, describing him as a "father figure." Ashbrook recalled his initial impression of Lynch as "crazy" after being shown art made with chicken manure. Ashbrook noted that the cast would spend their days off watching Lynch work, highlighting the positive impact of their time with him. The British Film Institute (BFI) announced a season celebrating David Lynch's career, including screenings of his films, shorts, and music videos, starting in January. Kyle MacLachlan, a frequent collaborator of Lynch, described his work as "essential" and said that Lynch's art speaks to a deeper part of us in a way that no one else does. David Lynch died in January 2025 at the age of 78.

Hollywood bombshell who was on Twin Peaks and dated Johnny Depp shares rare selfie, can you guess who she is?

A TV star from an iconic 1990s crime drama posted a rare selfie this week. The beauty worked on the cult classic show Twin Peaks, which also starred Lara Flynn Boyle and Kyle MacLachlan. And the photogenic sweetie also dated bad boy of Hollywood Johnny Depp. This looker has also guest-star on such beloved TV series as Friends, Law & Order: Special Victims Unit, Gilmore Girls and Dawson's Creek. This week she shared a rare photo to Instagram as she talked up her Los Angeles show. The star has been seen in recent months with both blonde hair and brunette hair, making it even harder to recognize her. Can you guess who she is? She is Sherilyn Fenn. The 60-year-old hard-working actress has been on several projects like Twin Peaks and Shameless. She also starred in movies such as Of Mice And Men, Fatal Instinct, Boxing Helena and Two Moon Junction, and she has played Elizabeth Taylor in a movie. On Twin Peaks played the lovestruck 18-year-old Audrey Horne on the 1990s series Twin Peaks. Co-created by Hollywood auteur David Lynch, Twin Peaks starred Kyle MacLachlan as Dale Cooper, a dashing FBI detective investigating the murder of a teenage girl. Sherilyn played the murder victim's classmate Audrey, who becomes smitten with Dale and assists his investigation by informing on her own father, a suspect. Twin Peaks originally ran for just two seasons in 1990 and 1991, leaving viewers both beguiled and frustrated by failing to tie up a series of loose ends. It earned a devoted fanbase and spawned a 1992 prequel movie called Twin Peaks: Fire Walk With Me before being rebooted for a single season in 2017 - though neither of those two projects included Sherilyn in the cast. Born in Detroit, Sherilyn moved to Los Angeles with her family as a teenager and dropped out of high school to study acting at the Lee Strasberg Theatre Institute, named after the legendary teacher who founded the Actors' Studio. She briefly worked as a Playboy Bunny when she was 19 and began her Hollywood career in 1980s B-movies, such as the skater picture Thrashin' with Josh Brolin and the fantasy action film The Wraith with Charlie Sheen. Sherilyn had a brief romance with Prince in 1985 - but it was later that year on the set of the student film Dummies that she met her true first love, Johnny Depp. Johnny and Sherilyn embarked on a more than three-year romance and even got engaged before they ultimately parted ways and he moved on with Jennifer Grey. During the time that they were together, Sherilyn got a career boost by guest starring on his classic 1980s high school TV comedy 21 Jump Street. In recent years, she has described Johnny as her 'first love' and the 'love of my life,' and she publicly supported him when he and his ex-wife Amber Heard accused each other of domestic abuse in a bitter legal battle that he ultimately won. When Amber leveled her allegations against Johnny in 2016, Sherilyn tweeted a picture of herself with him and wrote: 'I know JCD is not capable of the things being written.' Her best-remembered role came in 1990 when she started appearing on Twin Peaks as Audrey Horne, and that same year she posed nude in Playboy, catapulting to an exalted status as a Hollywood star and nationwide pinup. The year Twin Peaks began, she featured in the David Lynch movie Wild At Heart starring Nicolas Cage and Laura Dern. And during that decade she also appeared in the 1992 movie of John Steinbeck's Of Mice And Men directed by its leading man Gary Sinise. From 1998 to 2001 she played the lead role of a faded soap opera star on the sitcom Rude Awakening, with a cast including Lynn Redgrave and Mario Van Peebles. She guest-starred in a string of iconic TV series, including Friends, on which she played a woman with an artificial leg who dates Joey (Matt LeBlanc), then Chandler (Matthew Perry). Sherilyn has also appeared on Gilmore Girls, Dawson's Creek, Law & Order: Special Victims Unit, Psych and the US version of Shameless. Since 2022, she has been starring on the horror comedy series Shining Vale alongside Courteney Cox, Greg Kinnear and Mira Sorvino. In her personal life, she is the mother of two sons - Myles, 30, by her musician ex-husband Toulouse Holliday, and Christian, 17, by her ex-boyfriend Dylan Stewart.

'Echo Valley' Review - A Smart And Gripping Thriller From Apple TV+

Apple TV+'s Echo Valley doesn't bring anything particularly new to the thriller genre table. A woman with a troubled, drug-addicted daughter? Check. A child stuck in perpetual arrested development who needs help? Double check. A mother who proves the depth of her love by doing the unthinkable to protect her child? Triple check. However, the film is so well-crafted and tightly wound that you begin to forgive the clichés, thanks to the armrest-grabbing moments that linger throughout. Echo Valley is a refreshing take on the genre. The well-made, thoughtful thriller finally gets the niche streaming platform a movie win, after misfires like Fountain of Youth, The Gorge, Wolfs, and The Instigators of late. Finally, Apple TV+ finds itself focusing on story, character development, and plot points instead of past their prime star-driven vehicles saturated with special effects. The story follows Kate (Julianne Moore), who runs a horse-training farm deep in Echo Valley—a picturesque but isolating landscape where she lives a quiet, simple life. Unfortunately, money is tight. As a divorced mother, she has spent most of her savings on her daughter Claire's (Sydney Sweeney) drug rehabilitation. The barn roof that houses her prized horses is on the verge of collapse. Its beams are rotting from within. Desperate, Kate turns to her ex-husband (Kyle MacLachlan) for help. He only berates her and blames her financial troubles on her own choices. How? Well, for one, he argues that Kate has been too easy on their daughter, Claire, causing Kate to skip giving horse riding lessons to make the extra cash to take care of her own business. That night, Claire shows up, in trouble with a local drug dealer (Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker's Domhnall Gleeson, excellent here), following her as she accidentally threw out his stash. After demanding some help, she physically assaults Kate, leaves, and does not come back for months. When she does, Kate has blood all over her clothes and is clearly in distress. Claire breaks down and tells Kate a story of a violent altercation that she walked away from. Kate now must do the unthinkable to save her daughter from herself. Echo Valley was written by one of Hollywood's best screenwriters, Brad Ingelsby, whose credits include Out of the Furnace, American Woman, The Way Back, Mare of Easttown, and the upcoming Matthew McConaughey film The Lost Bus. Ingelsby excels at crafting genre films with depth. He particularly shines when exploring strong female characters and the dark side of the male ego. Here, the script focuses on seclusion, compounding the problems the characters face, ratcheting up tension and suspense amongst beautiful isolation. The story can feel emotionally indulgent and somewhat repetitive under Michael Pearce's (Encounter) direction. However, it ultimately benefits from Ingelsby's exceptional storytelling techniques. The movie is smart, rarely taking a misstep, with Ingelsby slowly pulling back small and subtle revelations that keep the viewer engaged, without causing automatic and uncontrollable eye-rolling, which is usually a staple of the genre with films like these. That takes an incredible amount of patience and skill, where Ingelsby excels. Echo Valley is worth watching precisely because it takes familiar tropes and subtly flips the script. Even minor deviations make a tremendous impact. Julianne Moore brings gravitas to what could have been a one-note role. Domhnall Gleeson downplays his seething villainy with pitch-perfect restraint. (That said, Sydney Sweeney does the bare minimum in a thankless, cookie-cutter role.) Ultimately, the thriller outperforms expectations to a degree, with a satisfying—if somewhat expected—conclusion. Yes, this Apple TV+ streamer is something we've seen before, but it's executed with such precision that it becomes gripping nonetheless. You can stream Echo Valley exclusively on Apple TV+ on June 13th!

Is Trey coming back? Sex and the City star Kristin Davis hints her character Charlotte could be 'running into' her ex-husband on And Just Like That

Kristin Davis has revealed that there's a possibility that one of Sex and the City's most beloved ex-husbands could be making a comeback. The 60-year-old was quizzed on what characters she'd like to see appear on the spin off of the iconic 1990s and noughties series, And Just Like That, by Stellar Magazine this week. The actress was quick to name Kyle MacLachlan, who played Trey MacDougal, the husband - and later ex-husband - of her character, Charlotte York. MacLachlan, 66, appeared on Sex And The City between 2000 and 2002. 'I feel like there could be many scenarios where [Trey's return] could work' Kristin explained. 'I feel like in New York, you do run into people from your past pretty frequently.' She added: 'It would totally make sense that Trey and Charlotte would be at the same events or at the same restaurants. 'I don't know if that would be enough for them to explore their relationship but it would be fun to do it, if we could'. Trey and Charlotte had an unhappy marriage, leading to a tense divorce - but through that process, Charlotte met her soulmate, lawyer Harry Goldenblatt, played by Evan Handler, who became her second husband. Handler continues to appear in the spin off And Just Like That as well as starring in both Sex And The City films. The is however one storyline from Sex and the City that Kristen couldn't stand - and even tried to get out of filming it. Davis recalled the plotline during a recent episode of her podcast Are You a Charlotte? She explained that during the sixth season of the show, the script called for York and her on screen husband Handler to come down with a bout of bad food poisoning. The pair were supposed to be out at a fancy dinner, enjoying dishes like French cheese, only for the both of them to then get hit with food poisoning and end up on the toilet. 'I just hated that storyline so much,' Davis admitted on the podcast. Davis disliked it so much that she even went to the episode's writers, Elisa Zuritsky and Julia Rottenberg, and questioned why they had to do this. 'They were like, "It's so funny"' Davis remembered. 'I think it was based on a story where someone went to France and had a similar experience with their decadent cheeses, which we're not used to here,' she continued. 'I didn't like that. I didn't want to lay on the floor of the bathroom with Evan in stained T-shirts. Ick.' However, the two ended up acting out the scene, and it made the cut on the 14th episode of season six. Sex and The City ended that season in 2004, but was revived in 2021 as the ladies returned for a spinoff, called And Just Like That, about life in their 50s. The spinoff stars Sarah Jessica Parker Parker as Carrie Bradshaw, Kristin Davis as Charlotte York, and Cynthia Nixon as Miranda Hobbes. Samantha Jones, who was played by Kim Cattrall in the original series, did not participate in the revival. However, it looks like there will be some new characters for fans to look forward to meeting this year, as And Just Like That is set to premiere its third season on HBO sometime this year. During an on-stage talk at the Red Sea Film Festival in Saudi Arabia late last year, Parker teased some new additions to the cast. 'There is growth with new faces,' Parker said, per Variety. 'Carrie has a wonderful storyline,' she continued. 'The story takes some big swings and we fold some big ideas into those big swings. Some of the male characters are back, and there are some new men.' She also shared that the third season took over seven months to shoot and involved 'crazy long hours.' 'It feels really big, really robust and exciting,' Parker shared.
