Kuwait University, Saudi ETEC sign deal to enhance academic quality and accreditation
RIYADH, Saudi Arabia - Kuwait University (KU), represented by its College of Graduate Studies, signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on Wednesday with the Saudi Education and Training Evaluation Commission (ETEC), aimed at enhancing cooperation and exchanging expertise in key academic and quality assurance fields. Speaking on the sidelines of the signing ceremony, Acting Dean of the College of Graduate Studies Dr. Ahmad Al-Mikhyal said the MoU seeks to strengthen collaboration in areas such as quality assurance, academic accreditation, and the sharing of institutional knowledge. Dr. Al-Mikhyal noted that the agreement will facilitate joint efforts in the development of educational programs, benefiting from mutual experience in measurement, evaluation, and university admission testing. It also includes provisions for organizing joint workshops and training sessions. 'This cooperation represents a strategic opportunity to elevate the quality of education outcomes at Kuwait University,' he said, highlighting the role of ETEC's expertise in setting quality benchmarks and implementing rigorous evaluation and accreditation procedures. Kuwait's cost of living up 2.25% compared to last year
KUWAIT CITY - The Central Statistical Administration (CSA) announced on Thursday that Kuwait's consumer price index (CPI) increased by 2.25 percent compared to May of last year. The inflation rate showed a monthly rise of 0.15 percent in May compared to April, according to the CSA. The data revealed that in April, the CPI had risen by 4.72 percent year-on-year. Breaking down the figures by category, the CPI for the cigarettes and tobacco group remained stable, while the clothing group saw a rise of 4.09 percent. Housing services prices increased by 0.74 percent, and home furnishings rose by 3.38 percent. The health sector recorded a 3.79 percent increase in prices. Conversely, transportation costs decreased by 1.05 percent compared to May 2024. The communications category experienced a modest price rise of 0.64 percent annually, while entertainment and culture prices increased by 1.92 percent. Education costs also rose by 0.87 percent. In April, prices for restaurants and hotels increased by 1.50 percent year-on-year, and miscellaneous goods and services rose by 4.9 percent. Excluding the food and beverages group, the overall inflation rate in Kuwait rose by 1.69 percent annually in May and by 0.08 percent compared to the previous month. Islamic New Year 2025: GCC countries declare holidays
Image: Getty Images Governments across the Gulf region have announced public holidays to mark the Islamic New Year, giving residents in the UAE, Kuwait, and Oman extended weekends. The holiday marks the beginning of the Islamic lunar calendar year 1447 AH. Read-I In Dubai, the Government Human Resources Department (DGHR) has confirmed that Friday, June 27, 2025, will be an official public holiday for all government departments, entities, and institutions. According to a circular issued by DGHR, the holiday does not apply to employees working shifts or those involved in providing essential public services or managing vital infrastructure. These organisations may determine alternative work schedules based on operational requirements, Nationwide, the UAE Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation also announced that private sector employees will receive June 27 off as a paid holiday. This follows an earlier statement from the Federal Authority for Government Human Resources confirming the same date for federal employees, effectively creating a long weekend for much of the country. In Kuwait, the cabinet declared Thursday, June 26, as a public holiday on the occasion of the Islamic New Year. All ministries and state institutions will suspend operations, resuming work on Sunday, June 29. The decision was made during the Cabinet's regular session, chaired by His Highness the Prime Minister Sheikh Ahmad Abdullah Al Ahmad Al Sabah. The DP World International League T20 and the Kuwait Cricket Board have entered an exciting partnership for the growth of the sport in Kuwait. Through the partnership the DP World ILT20 will organise cricket matches in the country which will be aimed at identifying and developing the participating agreement between the Kuwait Cricket Board and DP World ILT20 was inked at a signing ceremony organised recently at the Dubai International Stadium. As per the agreement, a domestic event like the DP World ILT20 UAE Development Tournament, will be conducted annually in Kuwait to provide the players from Kuwait an opportunity to get selected by ILT20 franchises for the main DP World ILT20 event. In the coming years, the league will also aim to host DP World ILT2o matches in Kuwait.
