International Yoga Day today: Madrasas, Sarvodaya Schools across UP to mark day
The International Yoga Day will be marked across the state with participation from all the Madrasa Board affiliated Madrasas across the state on Saturday. Sarvodaya schools run by the Social Welfare Department from Class 6 to 12 will also hold Yoga Day celebrations on the theme of 'Yoga for One Earth, One Health'. For representation only (HT File Photo) On this occasion, group yoga sessions will be organised in all the schools with the participation of students, teachers and staff, in which pranayama and various yogasanas will be done under the guidance of yoga teachers. Along with this, awareness will also be created on the benefits of yoga and its importance in life, which will help the students a lot in reducing stress and increasing concentration. Uttar Pradesh MoS minority welfare, Muslim waqf and haj, Danish Azad Ansari will be participating in Yoga Day Celebrations at Warsia Madrasa in Gomti Nagar. The UP BJP minority morcha chief Kunwar Basit Ali will also participate in Yoga Day celebrations at Warsia Madrasa. Ansari said, 'Yoga is performed with the aim to keep the mind and body fit and healthy. Yoga Day will be celebrated across all the Madrasa Board-affiliated madrasas across the state in an attempt to spread the message of physical and mental fitness.' Ali said, 'We are going to organise Yoga Day celebrations across the state. Yoga is meant for all and we all know that our PM Narendra Modi got international recognition for Yoga, and today the entire world knows the importance of Yoga.' On the other hand, special programmes will be organised on Saturday in Jai Prakash Narayan Sarvodaya schools run by the social welfare department. This year's theme is 'Yoga for One Earth, One Health', which reflects the global spirit of keeping oneself and the whole society healthy. The UP social welfare department is running 100 Sarvodaya schools with residential facilities from Class 6 to 12 for the students of economically weaker families across the state. Along with quality education in these schools, the facility of free coaching for competitive exams like JEE and NEET is also being provided.

BJP minority wing to ask Pasmandas to assert caste identities during census
1 2 Lucknow: In a strategic move, the BJP plans to tap the Pasmanda (backward) Muslim communities by exhorting them to assert their caste identities during the caste enumeration exercise scheduled to be undertaken along with the Census drive in 2026 and 2027. This may help them avail reservation benefits. "The community needs to be cautious of hardliner Maulanas and the opposition leaders who just want Muslims to be identified only on religious grounds," said UP BJP minority morcha chief Kunwar Basit Ali. BJP sources said that the party plans to chart out a nationwide drive to reach out to the Pasmandas, the electorally crucial bloc constituting a sizable potential of the total Muslim population which has traditionally been supportive of the opposition parties like the Samajwadi Party and Cong. This is seen as BJP's yet another strategy to blunt opposition's aggression ahead of panchayat polls due next year and subsequently the 2027 assembly elections. BJP national minority morcha president Jamal Siddiqui told TOI that the campaign would soon be rolled out after due discussion and formal approval of the party high command. There are scores of castes within the Pasmandas who have left behind in the road to social justice and development. They need to be supported," he said. Several Muslim communities get reservations in the Central OBC and several state OBC lists. According to a 2005 National Sample Survey Organisation survey, Muslim OBCs constitute around 41% of the total Muslim population. Muslim groups, however, claim the percentage to be much higher. This was seen as a reiteration of the party's stand in UP where CM Yogi Adityanath appointed Danish Azad Ansari, a Pasmanda Muslim from Ballia, as minister of state for minority affairs. He is the lone Muslim face in the state cabinet. Subsequently, in 2023 the BJP nominated former Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) vice-chancellor Tariq Mansoor, also a Pasmanda, as MLC before elevating him as party national vice-president.

BJP to honour madrasa students, families of martyred soldiers in U.P.
The Uttar Pradesh Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Minority Morcha will organise conferences to highlight the 11 years of government at the centre and will promote the work done for minorities in an effort to connect the enlightened Muslim community with the party. State chief of BJP Minority Morcha Kunwar Basit Ali said, 'Conferences will be organised on the theme 'Alpsankhyako Ka Paigam, Modi Ke Sath Musalman' to raise awareness about the central government's work and the BJP's policies, starting from June 12 with a programme at Atal Bihari Vajpayee Convention Centre in Lucknow.' 'Also, students who have excelled in various madrasa examinations will be honoured through the programme 'Desh ka Paigam, Pratibha ko Samman'. Families of soldiers martyred in campaigns to protect the country will also be honoured in these programmes. Furthermore, the saga of bravery of army soldiers in Operation Sindoor will be highlighted,' Ali added. BJP's regional MPs, MLAs or state-level leaders will be invited as chief guests for these programmes. Intellectuals, teachers, lawyers, social workers, and young talents from the minority community will participate in these programmes to be organised across all districts of the state from June 15. 'The main objective of these programmes is to directly introduce society to the BJP's plans and vision. Emphasis will be on dialogue rather than just speeches, ensuring public views are heard and conveyed to the party's and government's top leadership. This initiative will prove effective for the BJP's inclusive approach and trust-based politics with minorities,' Ali said. In the same sequence, on the upcoming International Yoga Day (June 21), programmes will be organised in the 403 madrasas located across all 403 assembly constituencies of the state, where teachers, students, and local residents will participate, the state BJP Minority Morcha president said. Chaupals will be set up outside dargahs and mosques to celebrate the success of Operation Sindoor with the public.
