Indian shuttlers dominate at Asian Para Badminton Championships
Indian para-badminton contingent ended the Badminton Asia Para Badminton Championships 2025 with a total of 27 medals making it the best performance in the tournament. Paralympic champion Nitesh Kumar starred for India winning three gold medals as the contingent finished with four gold medals, ten silver and 13 bronze medals. Nitesh won gold in MS SL3 category and paired up with Tulshimati Murgesan and Sukant Kadam to win gold medals in mixed doubles SL3-SU5 category and men's doubles SL3-SL4 category respectively. Manisha Ramadass won the other gold in the women's singles SU5 category. In the men's doubles SL3-SL4 category final, Sukant Kadam and Nitesh Kumar battled past fellow Indians Jagadesh Dilli and Naveen Sivakumar in a gripping three-set match that ended 21-17 11-21 21-11. The bronze in the same category also went to India, with Mohammad Arwaz Ansari and Abhijeet Sakhuja stepping onto the podium. Reflecting on the tournament, Sukant Kadam said, 'It was one of those finals where you have to dig deep and trust your training. The competition is getting stronger each year, and this gold is a result of staying focused on the small things that make a difference.' Apart from Nitesh, Krishna Nagar, Nithya Sre, Manasi Joshi, Chirag Baretha, and Mandeep Kaur were the other multiple medallists in the tournament. In the mixed doubles SH6 event, Tokyo Paralympic gold medallist Krishna Nagar and his partner Nithya Sre gave it their all in a high-energy final against China's Lin Naili and Li Fengmei, narrowly missing the top spot and settling for silver after a 13-21, 21-19, 14-21 contest. India also dominated the mixed doubles SL3–SU5 event, sweeping all three medals, with Nitesh Kumar and Thulasimathi Murgesan taking gold in a clinical straight-sets win over Ruthick Raghupathi and Manasi Joshi, while Chirag Baretha and Mandeep Kaur earned bronze. Indian shuttlers win 19 medals at Fazza Para Badminton International
Indian shuttlers finished with a haul of 19 medals, including a gold, four silver and 14 bronze, at the 6th Fazza Para Badminton International tournament in Dubai. Sivarajan Solaimalai and Sudarsan Saravanakumar Muthusamy claimed the only gold medal at the championships, as the pair got a walkover from their top seed opponents Hong Kong's Chu Man Kai and Wong Chun Yim in the men's doubles SH6 finals on Sunday. Experienced shuttler Umesh Vikram Kumar settled for silver in two of his Standing Lower SL3 singles and men's doubles finals, while the pair of Hardik Makkar and Ruthick Ragupathi went down fighting to the top seeded Malaysian Cheah Like Hou and Muhammad Fareez Anuar in men's double Standing Upper SU5 finals. Tokyo Paralympic champion Krishna Nagar signed off with a bronze after losing to Brazil's Vitor Tavares in the semifinal. He dedicated his medal to the defence forces of India, acknowledging their relentless efforts in safeguarding the nation. 'This medal is for the brave men and women in uniform who are working hard, day and night, to protect our country. Their courage motivates me to keep fighting on court,' he said.
