How much pressure is Kalen DeBoer under in 2025? Joel Klatt weighs in on Alabama coach How much pressure is Alabama football coach Kalen DeBoer facing in 2025? Fox Sports college football analyst Joel Klatt has some thoughts on DeBoer entering Year 2 in Tuscaloosa, which he shared Monday on his popular video podcast, "The Joel Klatt Show: A College Football Podcast." Klatt discussed 10 head coaches under pressure entering the 2025 season. For DeBoer, who went 9-4 in his first season as Alabama's coach last year, Klatt said he thinks that fans are still trying to be patient with Nick Saban's successor. "At this point, the fan base right now, just trying to be patient with Kalen DeBoer," Klatt said. "Year 1 was, let's face it, a little underwhelming for DeBoer. They were 9-4. First time not winning 10 games since 2007. That was obviously Nick Saban's first year. They're not going to sit around and wait for these 8-win, 9-win seasons." Klatt acknowledged that DeBoer was at a place where he's expected to win. "And not just win, but win big and win at the highest level of college football," he added. "Can't miss the playoff, in particular as we have expansion to 12 and we're going to be moving in 2026 and beyond to 14 or most likely 16 (teams)." Alabama missed the playoff last season in large part because of a 24-3 blowout loss to an Oklahoma Sooners team that had won only one conference game all year before the Crimson Tide's Nov. 23 debacle in Norman. 'He's got to win that game': Joel Klatt on the biggest game Kalen DeBoer faces in 2025 Where things could get "a little uncomfortable" for DeBoer in Year 2, Klatt believes, isn't in the Crimson Tide's Sept. 27 game against Georgia in Athens. Instead, Klatt believes the biggest pressure on DeBoer will be in Alabama's 'Third Saturday in October' rivalry clash with Tennessee on Oct. 18 at Bryant-Denny Stadium. "That's the moment on the schedule," Klatt said. "Home losses, first of all, are not good, and then they would be starting really tough and in a schedule that's really more backloaded. Obviously you've got Georgia, so let's just say that if you're losing to Tennessee, you've probably lost to Georgia. So that would be your second loss in the SEC. Then you still have to go to South Carolina and host LSU. "If you were to lose to Tennessee, who doesn't have Nico Iamaleava, and now you're about to go play LaNorris Sellers and Garrett Nussmeier, I think South Carolina and LSU are both better teams than Tennessee. John Mateer is better than any option that Tennessee has at quarterback, so you still have to play Oklahoma. You still have the Iron Bowl." In that scenario, Klatt believes a loss to Tennessee -- something Alabama hasn't suffered to the Vols at Bryant-Denny Stadium since 2003 -- would put the Crimson Tide in a position to have to run the table to avoid another 9-3 season and reach the College Football Playoff. "We saw what 9-3 did last year, even in the SEC," Klatt said. "We thought for a lot of years that in a 12-team playoff, a 9-3 (SEC) team would go to the playoff, and guess what? That didn't happen. So the pressure would go through the roof for Kalen DeBoer." Klatt closed his segment on DeBoer up by saying: "That Tennessee game at home, he's got to win that game. So the pressure index for Kalen DeBoer (is) they're trying to be patient, but patience would wear out real fast if they were to lose that game at home to Tennessee." Alabama opens the 2025 season at Doak Campbell Stadium in Tallahassee against Florida State on Aug. 30. Kickoff is at 2:30 p.m. CT. The game will be televised on ABC. Albert Lea High School principal accepts new job in Northfield
Jun. 3—Albert Lea High School Principal Chris Dibble has accepted a position as the high school principal of Northfield Public Schools, Board Chairman Dave Klatt announced Monday during the school board work session. Dibble started with the district in 2016 as dean of students and became principal of Southwest Middle School in 2018 before transitioning to his current role at the high school in 2021. Dibble said he is most proud of remaining focused on students as the district transitioned through multiple leaders and said he thinks he has been able to open lines of communication between administration and staff to focus on student needs. He said he also thinks he has built relationships with students, staff and community members during his time as a leader. Under his leadership, the high school has received levels 1 and 2 certification in the High Reliability Schools framework, giving the staff direction and a focus on data-driven strategies that give students the best environment for school. They have also rebuilt safety protocols and worked closely with the city and county to support students both in and out of the school building. "As a team, we are always pushing to try new ideas and plans that will enhance the students' experience each and every day," he said. "We know there is work to be done and we listen to the feedback we receive from parents about bullying, cell phones, social media and chemical use." As he leaves the district, he said he knows there are people already here who will continue the journey that has led to a team dynamic at the high school. "We have a great staff, students who do great work and a community that supports their children," he said. "There are wheels in motion that will carry ALHS forward as the leadership change happens." In an email sent out to parents, he said he plans to continue relationships with many people who helped shape the middle and high schools during his time. "I wish the Albert Lea Area Schools and the Albert Lea community nothing but the best as I begin my next professional journey," he said in the email. "My family and I thank you for your support and look forward to catching up with you whenever our paths cross again." Klatt said he spoke with interim Superintendent David Krenz and incoming Superintendent Steven Heil about a rough timeline to replace the position, and Klatt said they hope to have the job posted by Friday, with candidates screened at the end of June and first part of July. They hope to set up interviews by July 7. He also mentioned surveys they are planning to send out surrounding the position.

Texas-Ohio State, Iowa-Iowa State highlight FOX Sports 2025 college football slate
The start of the 2025 college football season is less than 100 days away, and FOX Sports is here to help you arrange your plans for the first few weeks of the season and every Friday this year. FOX Sports announced which three games will be featured on "Big Noon Saturday" for the first three weeks of the season, along with its full Week 1 slate and "College Football Friday" schedule for the 2025 season. Texas and Ohio State will help ring in another season of "Big Noon Saturday" when the two programs go head-to-head in Columbus on Saturday, Aug. 30. A rematch of one of last year's College Football Playoff semifinal games, the Longhorns and Buckeyes will almost certainly open the season ranked in the top five of the AP poll. That game will also mark the beginning of the Arch Manning era for Texas as he takes over at quarterback for Quinn Ewers, while Ohio State wide receiver Jeremiah Smith will look to start his Heisman campaign on a strong note. [Related: Texas-Ohio State matchup to air on FOX in Week 1: Top storylines] In Week 2, "Big Noon Saturday" will feature the latest edition of the Cy-Hawk rivalry between Iowa and Iowa State in Ames, Iowa. Both the Hawkeyes and Cyclones were recently featured in FOX Sports lead college football analyst Joel Klatt's post-spring top 25 poll (Iowa No. 23; Iowa State No. 17). Iowa will likely have South Dakota State transfer Mark Gronowski starting at quarterback in that game after winning two FCS titles and the 2023 Walter Payton Award for the most outstanding player in the FCS. As for Iowa State, Rocco Becht will return for his third season as its starting quarterback after posting impressive numbers over the last two years. Oregon will be featured on "Big Noon Saturday" when it travels to Northwestern in Week 3. Dan Lanning's squad looks poised to compete for a national title in 2025, with former UCLA quarterback Dante Moore likely taking over for Dillon Gabriel. The Ducks were also ranked fourth in Klatt's post-spring top 25 after they landed the No. 1 transfer portal class, via 247 Sports. Additionally, "The Game" will be featured on "Big Noon Saturday" again. Ohio State will travel to Ann Arbor to try and snap its four-game losing streak to Michigan in the final week of the regular season (Nov. 29). The Wolverines surprisingly upset the Buckeyes last year before Ohio State went on its run to a national title, but the game might have been more remembered for the postgame theatrics. Both teams enter the 2025 season with questions at quarterback, but each fully expects to be in the Big Ten title hunt. That game will also feature the last two national championship winners. As for the rest of the Week 1 slate, Auburn and Baylor will meet in Waco, Texas, to help start the "FOX College Football Friday" slate. The two teams were also ranked in Klatt's preseason top 25 as the Bears won their final six regular-season games in 2024. Kickoff for that game is set for 8 p.m. ET on Friday, Aug. 29 on FOX. Other games on FOX in Week 1 include South Dakota-Iowa State and Utah-UCLA. Kansas will also host Fresno State in Week 0 on FOX (Saturday, Aug. 23). "FOX College Football Friday" will mostly feature a mixture of Big Ten and Big 12 matchups. Arizona will host Kansas State in Week 3 (Sept. 12) while Iowa and Rutgers will meet in Piscataway, New Jersey, in Week 4 (Sept. 19). TCU and Arizona State will meet up in Week 5 (Sept. 26). The Nebraska-Minnesota rivalry will be featured on "FOX College Football Friday" in Week 8 (Oct. 17). A few West Coast games will also be featured in the Friday slate in November. USC will host Northwestern in Week 9 (Nov. 7). Minnesota will meet up with Oregon in Eugene in Week 10 (Nov. 14). Finally, the "Duel in the Desert" between Arizona and Arizona State will round out the regular-season slate of "FOX College Football Friday." FOX will air two games during conference championship game weekend as well. The Mountain West Championship Game will take place on Friday, Dec. 5. A day later, FOX will air the Big Ten Championship Game for the 14th time. The remainder of the "Big Noon Saturday" and college football on FOX schedule will be released as the 2025 season goes on. "Big Noon Kickoff" will air every week during the regular season starting at 10 a.m. ET, unless otherwise noted. Suspect in arson at Pennsylvania governor's official residence to seek delay in next court hearing
HARRISBURG, Pa. (AP) — A man accused of trying to burn down Pennsylvania Gov. Josh Shapiro 's official residence is seeking to delay his next scheduled court appearance because he is receiving mental health treatment, his lawyer said Friday. The suspect, Cody Balmer, had been scheduled to appear in court next Wednesday for a hearing to determine whether prosecutors have enough evidence against Balmer to take the case to trial. But Mary Klatt, the chief public defender of Dauphin County, said Balmer's hearing will be postponed because he is receiving treatment. 'Everyone wants to ensure Mr. Balmer is mentally fit when this matter comes before the Court,' Klatt said in an email to The Associated Press. Balmer is currently being held at the state prison in Waymart, the only state prison with a mental health unit for men, according to the state Department of Corrections. Balmer, 38, is charged with attempted homicide, arson and other offenses for setting a fire that tore through a section of the state-owned residence's first floor and forced the governor, his wife, children and members of his extended family to flee in the middle of the night, hours after they celebrated the Jewish holiday of Passover with a Seder in the residence. Shapiro, who is Jewish, is viewed as a potential White House contender for the Democratic Party in 2028. Balmer told police that he had intended to attack the governor with a hammer if he had encountered him that night, police said in a court filing. No one was injured in the blaze, which fire officials say caused millions of dollars in damage to the heavily protected residence. Balmer has not entered a plea. Balmer has been held without bail since turning himself in to state police after the April 13 fire. Klatt has said he would be evaluated to see if he is competent to stand trial. Balmer's mother and brother say he suffers from mental illness, something that Balmer denied in one brief court appearance. Authorities say Balmer expressed hatred for Shapiro.
