Costco adds new food item members already love

There's a reason so many people are willing to pay an annual membership fee to shop at Costco. For one thing, what many people pay for a membership, they make back – and then some – in the form of savings on their essential shopping during the year. Don't miss the move: Subscribe to TheStreet's free daily newsletter Remember, Costco members don't just get access to discounted groceries. They also get perks like low-cost gas and other benefits that can lead to a lot of savings. Related: Costco quietly pulls popular product, upsets fans But it's not just that Costco's prices are competitive. There are certain products that are exclusive to Costco, so you won't find them anywhere else. In fact, Costco's management team makes a point to keep store inventory fresh and exciting because they recognize that it's an integral part of the member experience. If you've ever heard someone refer to the "Costco treasure hunt," they're talking about the experience of walking through one of those giant stores and being delighted by new items you never knew existed. Image source: Burbank/Orlando Sentinel/Tribune News Service via Getty Images Costco has a couple of options for stocking exclusive inventory. One, of course, is to negotiate exclusive deals with its suppliers. The other is to produce its own array of exclusive items under the Kirkland label. Related: Costco brings back huge perk members have missed Unlike competitors like Target and Walmart, Costco uses a single brand – Kirkland – for all of its self-produced products. For this reason, you might find the Kirkland label on food, but also, clothing, housewares, and other goods. Costco's logic is that it wants the Kirkland name to be synonymous with high quality. And the company would rather stick to a single brand with a solid reputation. Costco's bakery is a huge highlight for shoppers. In addition to fresh breads and muffins, the bakery carries an impressive selection of cakes and other indulgent items. Not only are Costco's cakes fun to look at, but they tend to get rave reviews from fans. Sometimes, a cake that looks good on display doesn't taste so good in reality. But that's not typically the case with Costco cakes. Related: Costco CEO admits warehouse club may change its hours Meanwhile, Costco just introduced a Peaches & Cream Bar Cake that has "summer" written all over it. It's made with three layers of vanilla cake filled with whipped cream. But the shining star is the peach jam filling that can be found between each layer. The cake is also topped with a peach glaze and white chocolate shavings. Costco members have described the cake as "light and fluffy," which sounds just about perfect for summer. Best of all, Costco didn't have to kick another cake out of its lineup to bring this one in. Often, when Costco adds a bakery item to its rotation, it comes at the expense of another favorite. Some members had assumed that the Peaches & Cream Bar Cake would replace the strawberry version. But members are reporting on Reddit that they're seeing both cakes available at their local stores. If you head to Costco now, you might get your share of summertime cakes at great prices. But don't wait on this one, because true to Costco form, it may very well be phased out in time for fall. South Florida Water Management District's new Python Elimination Program rewards catches

Florida's python population has been an issue for decades. To help in the effort to reduce the population of the invasive snake, the South Florida Water Management District implemented the Python Elimination Program this year, which includes a monetary incentive to encourage contractors to catch invasive Burmese pythons. The Python Elimination Program for contractors who work for the South Florida Water Management District (SFWMD) to catch the most pythons over the span of a month from the Everglades and its surrounding areas. The contractor who catches the most pythons, is featured on the District's Facebook page and awarded a $1,000 bonus, on top of their hourly rate. "It was [Peter Antonacci's, former District executive director] idea to put spirited individuals from the public, to give them access to our lands and to pay them for every Python removed," Mike Kirkland, Python Elimination Program manager said. "It was me and my team that kind of took what really was bit of a wild idea and turned it into the viable program that it is today." Since the start of the program in January, there has been four different winners over five months. Kyle Perry caught the most pythons in January and March for a combined 40 pythons. Kevin Pavlidis, Andre Brown and Donna Kalil were the February, April and May winners with 18, eight and 16 pythons captured respectively. The Python Elimination Program is accepting applications for new python removal agents. While it is a very competitive application process, the program is not open to the general public. Those who apply need to have "demonstrable history" catching pythons. "We get 100 new applications every single week from all over the world," Kirkland said. "We have a low turnover rate, and so we hire contractors based on relevant qualifying experience, just like you would have with any job." Invasive pythons were introduced into Florida through pet trades. They moved into the environment when owners released them into the Everglades. These reptiles moved to the top of the food chain by feasting on native prey, which has lessened the food supply for numerous native predators. Pythons also present many pathogens that can infect natives animals. For a more in-depth description, you can go to South Florida Water Management District website. A bounty program to catch invasive species has been considered by the SWFWD before, but never came into fruition because of what is known as the Cobra Effect. "Back during the colonial occupation of India by Britain in the 1800s the British soldiers were complaining about all the native cobras around," Kirkland said. "They paid locals to remove these Cobras. And the locals were smart, and they had done such a good job of it that they realized quickly they basically worked themselves out of a job, and so they began intentionally reseeding the environment (with cobras)." To prevent a reseeding problem for the Python Elimination Program, Kirkland and his team put several initiatives into place. All hunters are tracked in real time. (Tracked through smartphones) Hunters need to stay in touch with Kirkland or a member of his team 24/7. Hunters must send in a photo of their catch. All contractors must be heavily vetted and pass a three-tier background system. If you stumble upon a python in the wild, there are two options. Catch it or call. "If they are comfortable removing it, then you know, if they think that they can safely and humanely remove it, then by all means, do so," Kirkland said. "The public is encouraged to humanely remove pythons." Hesitant? You can call in professionals to remove the snake from your property. Phone: 1-888-IVE-GOT1 Website: Mobile App: IveGot1 app Although most people cannot participate in the SFWMD Python Elimination Program, you can still get involved in the 2025 Python Challenge from July 11 to 20. The Python Challenge is conducted by the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission and the SFWMD. Last year, 195 invasive Burmese pythons were removed by 857 participants from 33 states and Canada. Ronald Kiger took home the Ultimate Grand Prize by removing 20 pythons during the challenge. If you are interested in participating in the challenge this year, you can go to Florida Python Challenge website and sign up. 10 healthiest Costco foods a dietitian always stocks up on — and how to incorporate them into your meals

Finding nutritious, convenient and affordable foods at the grocery store can be a tall task, especially when you're surrounded by a seemingly endless selection of options. Navigating the variety of products available Costco can also feel overwhelming, but a go-to place for Canadians to shop for groceries for their families and much more. Brittany Brown, a registered dietitian, certified diabetes educator and the founder of Feeding Babies, Nourishing Souls in Halifax, says Costco has a wide range of healthy and affordable options that are consistent and reliable. 'As a dietitian and mom, I love Costco for offering high-quality staples at a great value,' Brown said in an interview with Yahoo Canada. 'I often purchase the same things over and over again because they are nutrient dense, versatile, and family friendly.' Ahead, Brown shared 10 healthy Costco food staples to add to your grocery list. Kirkland mixed nuts make a frequent appearance in Brown's household because they're perfect for charcuterie boards, homemade trail mix and salads. They're also great for baking and can be added to muffins and cookie recipes. 'They're packed with plant-based protein and heart-healthy fats and they're a satisfying snack that supports satiety and blends in seamlessly with a Mediterranean-style diet,' she said. 'The large container also has a long shelf life, but you probably won't need it because these nuts are great in everything.' Liberte 2% yogurt is what Brown calls 'an MVP for versatility.' That's because it works as a sour cream substitute, a base for dips and dressings, and it can even be strained into a thicker Greek-style yogurt if you need a little more protein in your diet. Brown often uses it to make a quick chia pudding with cacao and chia seeds, both of which you can also find at Costco. 'I like to choose a yogurt with 2 per cent fat which keeps me fuller longer and adds a creamy texture without the excess sugar of flavoured varieties,' she said. This wild rice blend is nutty, chewy, and deeply satisfying. Brown added that it's one of her favourite ways to get whole grains on the table. 'It stores beautifully in the fridge and works as a base for grain bowls, stir-fries, soups, or hearty salads throughout the week,' she explained. Plus, it's organic, non-GMO, and she says you won't likely find it anywhere cheaper than Costco. Kirkland Almond Butter is smooth, rich and free from unnecessary additives; its only ingredient is roasted almonds. It's high in vitamin E and healthy fats and it's perfect for toast, apple slices, baking, sauces or even drizzled over warm oatmeal. 'I never let it run out,' Brown said. 'I love that on a day when I'm looking for a salty treat, this almond butter is salt-free, allowing me to sprinkle my own flaky sea salt atop whatever snack I'm eating. Currently it's bananas, almond butter and Malden sea salt.' This olive oil is light-tasting but rich in monounsaturated fats and an excellent heart-healthy option for everything from salad dressings to roasted veggies. Brown said she typically pours her olive oil into a glass jar. Some experts suggest a dark coloured glass jar to help prolong its shelf life by protecting it from sunlight. 'I usually suggest getting a glass jar to pour [it] into,' Brown said. 'The 3L jugs are a little big for my pantry but I love getting to refill a jar multiple times.' These individually portioned fillets make it easy to get omega-3s on the table, even when you're in a hurry. They can go straight from the freezer to the oven or grill and make for a quick and healthy weeknight dinner with little fuss. 'Nutritionally, trout is an excellent source of protein, vitamin D and heart-healthy fats,' Brown said. 'The vacuum packs keep fish fresh straight out of the freezer.' These tiny seeds are nutritional powerhouses that are high in omega-3s, fibre and a great option for plant-based protein. 'I use them in puddings, smoothies, salad toppers and even to make homemade jam,' she said. 'The bulk size makes it affordable to experiment and incorporate them into meals daily.' Spinach from Costco might just offer the best value for any leafy green, Brown said. It's incredibly versatile and can be tossed into smoothies, soups, sauces, eggs, or wraps. Nutrient-wise, it delivers folate, iron, vitamin C and vitamin K in every handful. To extend its shelf life, Brown likes to line the container or bag with paper towel to soak up excess moisture, or freeze it before it spoils. These frozen raspberries can be used in everything from yogurt bowls to smoothies to snack boards to muffins to salads. 'Raspberries are low in sugar and high in fibre, which is great for blood sugar balance and gut health,' Brown said. 'They're a vibrant, functional fruit that feels like a treat but works hard for your body.' Brown suggested stocking up on the frozen variety during the off-season when the price of fresh raspberries increases. Hummus works double-time as both a snack and an ingredient. It's high in fibre and plant protein and an easy way to nourish your body at any time of day. 'I spread it on wraps, dip crackers or veggies into it, and even mix it with a little cacao for a fun twist with strawberries,' Brown said.

Costco Just Rolled Out 2 New Membership Perks That Might Finally Convince You to Upgrade

Costco memberships already come with plenty of perks, from the adored Kirkland brand items to unexpected services (hello, travel planning and home installation services!). But if you're a Gold Card member, the latest Costco announcements may inspire you to upgrade to the executive level. The latest perks: early, VIP-only shopping privileges—and a $10 monthly credit each month if you skip the store altogether and use same-day delivery via Instacart or Costco's own Same Day service. Early-bird shopping: The new, early-bird shopping starts June 30, according to a Costco Instagram post, and allows executive members to get into the store right at 9 a.m. to help beat the crowds and the traffic jam at the checkout. Save on same-day delivery orders: The $10 monthly credit is applied to one same-day order per month that's $150 and over, according to a Costco press release. Couple these perks with the 2% annual reward that Costco offers its executive members, and you may want to start doing the math on whether an executive membership makes sense for you—especially if you'd use that early bird shopping time. So if you're a heavy Costco shopper (you'd need to spend $3,250 per year to break even on the extra $65 for the executive membership—or get several $150 deliveries over the course of the year), it may be time to upgrade and get not only the cash back, but also the opportunity to head to the checkout before the gold members even walk through the door.
