Massive solid green wall put up around beautiful Cardiff park to stop people getting in

A massive solid green wall has been built surrounding a Cardiff city centre park. A fencing area has gone up around Blackweir Fields in the run-up to music festival Blackweir Live. Photos of the park show the wall surrounding a large part of the fields, which is where the series of music gigs will take place this summer. Blackweir Live will see names such as Noah Kahan, Alanis Morissette, and Stevie Wonder appear on stage at Blackweir Fields over a number of days in June and July. Kings of Leon were the first artist announced as part of the Blackweir Live events, which Depot Live and Cuffe and Taylor are behind. But it was sadly confirmed that the American band had to pull their Cardiff gig after frontman Caleb Followill sustained an injury. In recent months concerns have been raised about the potential for large-scale gigs on Blackweir Fields with park users citing the impact it could have on access to green space and grassroots sport. You can read more about this here. The first Blackweir Live gig will take place on Friday, June 27, with American singer-songwriter Noah Kahan taking centre stage. Cardiff Council was asked to comment on the installation of the wall. Here are the photos of the green wall surrounding Blackweir Fields in Cardiff:

How this regional Aussie town secured rock legend Lenny Kravitz

Rock legend Lenny Kravitz is bringing his world tour to Australia with dates in Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane … and Mildura. On November 28, the four-time Grammy Award-winner will rock Mildura, a regional town six hours north-west of Melbourne after shows in the east-coast capitals, the NSW port city of Newcastle, and in Adelaide right before the bp Adelaide Grand Final supercars event. '[Monday's] announcement is yet another landmark moment for our community in terms of major events,' Mildura City Council mayor Helen Healy said. 'It also provides us with another golden opportunity to welcome visitors to our beautiful corner of the world later this year.' Backed by the state government, the Blue Electric Light tour show at the Sporting Precinct is expected to attract up to 15,000 fans. But how did Mildura – a region with a population of about 57,000 people – secure this legend of rock? Kravitz is the second major artist to perform in Mildura in the past three years. Rock band Kings of Leon wowed more than 10,000 fans at the Sporting Precinct in 2022, immediately after the state's sixth lockdown. The Kravitz show is supported by the state government's $38 million regional events fund, established to attract tourist dollars from interstate and overseas, and to get Melburnians into the regions. Following the success of the Kings of Leon and Foo Fighters in Geelong in 2022, Visit Victoria engaged with the live music sector to seek headline talent to again venture beyond the big cities. Healy said the Kings of Leon performance injected more than $2 million into the local economy, and helped fill more than 9000 hotel rooms. About 40 per cent of the concert-goers travelled from outside the region.

Kings of Leon's Caleb Followill cancels upcoming shows

Nashville-based rock band Kings of Leon have been writing and recording new songs and were about to embark on a summer European tour until front man Caleb Followill suffered a "freak accident," and was forced to cancel all upcoming European shows. In an Instagram video post from his home, Followill, sporting a blue robe, explained he broke his foot and can't be on his feet, travel or perform for eight weeks. "Hello to everyone out there, especially our European fans that are preparing to come see us this summer," Followill said in the video. "Unfortunately, I regret to inform you that those shows will have to be canceled due to a freak accident that happened the other day. I broke my foot pretty bad, just playing with my kids. It's pretty gnarly." Followill went on to thank the "great doctors" he has in Nashville who performed emergency surgery on his foot. "I'm on the mend, but, uh, they've told me that I can't be on my feet or traveling or anything for the next eight weeks or so, it's a big bummer, man. We were so excited. We've been preparing for this tour for a long time." Followill said the band had a lot of exciting things planned, but that they were going to pivot and find a new way to continue the work they've started. I know this isn't the message that anyone wants to hear, and it's certainly not the message that I wanna be sending, but it's gonna be all right." The video then cuts to his elevated, heavily bandaged foot. Kings of Leon is set to perform four July dates with Zach Bryan before and according to a rep for the band, those shows are still on as planned. The sold-out June 10 Paris Le Zenith show has been moved to the Paris Adidas Arena on Wednesday Sept. 3, 2025 (ticketing details to follow), and the previously announced August headline shows at Newcastle's Come Together festival, Portsmouth Victorious festival, Oslo Unity Arena and Ireland's Electric Picnic will proceed as scheduled. Kings of Leon's Pilgrimage Festival dates in Sept., in Franklin, Tn., are also set to proceed as scheduled. British rockers step in for Kings Of Leon at festivals after 'freak accident'

To view this video please enable JavaScript, and consider upgrading to a web browser that supports HTML5 video After frontman Caleb Followill announced Kings of Leon's European festival appearances for the next six weeks are all cancelled due to his 'freak accident', rockers Muse have dutifully stepped into a number of their empty slots. The Tennessee rockers were due to perform in the UK and Europe in June and July, until Caleb broke his foot 'pretty badly' while playing with his kids, and announced he was out of action for eight weeks. Blackweir Fields has now been cancelled after the Molly's Chambers hitmakers pulled out, while Lytham Festival have axed one day of the Lancashire festival in response to their band's gutting news. Over the Channel, Supermassive Black Hole hitmakers Muse are heroically stepping in for the rockers at two of their billed headline slots, at NOS Alive Festival near Lisbon, and Mad Cool Festival in Madrid, both taking place in July. Meanwhile, O Son do Camiño in north-east Spain have secured Kasabian for a Spain and Portugal 2025 exclusive appearance as a replacement. In August, Kings of Leon – made up of brothers Caleb, Nathan and Jared Followhill and their cousin Matthew Followhill – are still billed to land on UK soil, first for Newcastle's Come Together Festival, then Victorious Festival in Portsmouth. Both festivals have confirmed they are still expecting the Taper Jean Girl hitmakers. Muse, who formed as teenagers from Devon in 1994, are luckily on a bit of a European tour themselves, as they are due to perform in Finland, France, Netherlands, Oslo, Stockholm, and Gdynia in Poland throughout June and early July. The band, made up of frontman Matt Bellamy, bassist Chris Wolstenholme and drummer Dominic Howard, have sold over 20 million albums over nine releases. 'I broke my foot pretty bad just playing with my kids… It's pretty gnarly and I'll spare all the details. But we're fortunate enough to have some great doctors here in Nashville that gave me emergency surgery,' Caleb said in a video on social media announcing the news to fans. 'I'm on the mend, but they've told me that I can't be on my feet, travelling, or anything for the next eight weeks or so. That's a big bummer.' He continued, shaking his head: 'We were so excited. We've been preparing for this tour for a long time, we've been preparing for a lot of things.' The rocker – who is married to Victoria's Secret model Lily Aldridge – said the band had been in the studio recording new songs, and were looking forward to debuting a few in the coming months. 'We had a lot of exciting things planned and now we're going to have to pivot and find a new way to continue the work that we've started,' he said. 'I'm very excited for when we do get to show you the stuff we're doing, and in the meantime we're going to do whatever work we can while I have these limitations. 'Exciting stuff is coming, I know this isn't the message anyone wants to hear, and it's certainly not the message I want to be sending, but it's going to be alright. 'Everything is going to be good. Hopefully, we will see y'all soon.' The group issued a separate statement, offering further insight into the musician's injury. 'Kings of Leon are updating fans that Caleb Followill has recently sustained a serious injury, shattering his heel and requiring a significant emergency surgery, that will prevent him from travelling and performing,' it read. 'The anticipated recovery process is expected to take eight weeks, under strict guidance of expert orthopaedic specialists. 'The band regrets to report that they will need to cancel all upcoming UK and European festival headline shows in June and July of this year.' Got a story?
