Eberl comments on departure rumors involving Kim, Coman, Boey and Zaragoza
Bayern Munich could offload a number of players this summer, with Minjae Kim, Kingsley Coman, Sacha Boey, and Bryan Zaragoza among those potentially on the move. Speaking at Bayern's training camp in Orlando ahead of the Club World Cup, Bayern board member for sport Max Eberl addressed speculation over the futures of the quartet. Advertisement On Minjae Kim, Eberl noted that the South Korean international will need to 'push through' amid stiff competition in central defense once he fully recovers from Achilles tendon issues that have sidelined him for some time. 'Minjae is struggling a bit with his Achilles tendon. But we were never at a point where he would have risked his health. We have everything well under control. Now he says he really wants to get healthy. He will start training in the next few days. Then we will be very well set up in defense. Minjae has to push through.' Regarding Kingsley Coman, who has been linked with a move away for some time, Eberl stressed that his situation will be evaluated after the Club World Cup. 'King is with us. He is a player who has done great things for FC Bayern over the years. He is now physically very, very stable. His Achilles tendon has often caused problems, preventing him from playing a full season. Hopefully, he will now contribute to us going as far as possible at the Club World Cup. Then we will see how the squad planning looks overall.' Advertisement As for Sacha Boey and Bryan Zaragoza, Eberl signaled more openly that their futures may lie elsewhere. 'With Konny (Konrad Laimer), Stani (Josip Stanisic), and Sacha, we have three right-backs. That's quite a lot in fact. Now Sacha is here, and he will play for us. After that, we will see what the future looks like. But having three right-backs is definitely a luxury," Eberl said. With Zaragoza, who spent last season out on loan at Osasuna, Bayern are 'open to a transfer', he clearly stated. "Bryan had a very, very good phase at Osasuna until his injury. He was called up for the Spanish national team. That shows quality.'

Bayern Munich 10-0 Auckland City: German giants bruise Kiwi dreamers in grim mismatch
On form: Coman scored two goals and assisted a third before he was hooked at half (REUTERS) Bayern Munich's opening Club World Cup tie made for uncomfortable viewing as the 34-time German champions stamped out the star-crossed dreamers Auckland City. The Kiwi contingent came into the tie as the Club World Cup's only amateur side, with many of their players having to take time away from work or school to play in the United States. Advertisement They have considerable pedigree in the tournament despite their status, and are making their 12th appearance this summer, but will be very lucky to match their best-ever finish of third at the new-look tournament. The tie was a clear David vs Goliath tale, but, speaking pre-match, club captain Mario Ilich confirmed that Auckland were daring to dream as they carried the flag for amateur footballers around the world. Bayern, though, had no time for such fairytales as they embarked on a machinistic dismantling of the minnows. Fans were made to wait just six minutes for Kingsley Coman's opener, and the Bavarians did not let off the gas, romping to a ten-goal demolition job thanks in part to Jamal Musiala's second-half hat trick. Bayern handed their fans a day to remember, and auckland a day to forget (AFP via Getty Images) The onus had been on Vincent Kompany's side to avoid an embarrassing upset, and they made no mistake after the manager named a full-strength side. Advertisement And, in a grim foreshadowing of the rout to come, Coman came close to opening the scoring with a powerful header after just a few minutes, though he was denied by the impressive Conor Tracey. A corner followed, though, and brought with it the opener - Coman headed home at the second time of asking. Sacha Boey added a second 12 minutes later. He had already lashed a pair of volleyed efforts high into the stands, but finally finished on target to double Bayern's advantage and trigger a run. Michael Olise and Coman struck in quick succession, before the outgoing legend Thomas Muller dropped his man and tapped home from close range to make it five. Olise added a stunning curling effort in first-half injury time, increasing Auckland's deficit to an insurmountable six goals at half time. Jamal Musiala completed his hat-trick 23 minutes after being introduced (AFP via Getty Images) France teammates Olise and Coman were both hooked at half, denied their chances to push for hattricks, and on came the 17-year-old Lennart Karl for his Bayern debut. Just 45 minutes into the Club World Cup, the tournament was reduced to an opportunity to give youngsters a run-out. Advertisement Whether Auckland rallied or Bayern wilted after the break can be debated, by the Kiwis battled to keep their opponents out for close to twenty minutes. But the gates were reopened by Musiala, who had replaced the notably goalless Harry Kane, with 25 minutes remaining as he curled a tidy effort beyond Tracey from the edge of the box. He won and converted a penalty just a few minutes later to make eight. With 80 minutes on the clock, Angus Kilkolly hit Auckland's first shot on target of the afternoon. It was an ambitious effort, low across the goal from 30 yards, but forced a routine save from Manuel Neuer, who was likely grateful to have something to do. Musiala would soon remind Auckland of their place in the food chain, cutting out Tracey's pass and finishing to complete his hat-trick just 23 minutes after coming on, before Muller put the Bavarians into double-digits. Five minutes were added as Bayern chased an 11th, but they ultimately settled at ten.

Bayern's Thrashing Of Auckland City Lays Bare Club World Cup Fallacy
CINCINNATI, OHIO - JUNE 15: Jonathan Tah #4 celebrates with Kingsley Coman #11 of FC Bayern Munchen ... More after Coman scored the team's first goal during the FIFA Club World Cup 2025 group C match between FC Bayern München and Auckland City FC at TQL Stadium on June 15, 2025 in Cincinnati, Ohio. (Photo by) Auckland City described itself as the 'working class team of the Club World Cup' ahead of its debut in FIFA's latest jamboree and vowed to do amateur soccer proud. It was a noble sentiment, but the days when nobility of heart won games are long gone, if they ever existed to begin with. In their 10-0 evisceration against Bayern Munich on Saturday, Auckland City looks exactly what it is - an amateur team facing up to one of the giants of European soccer. Put it another way, according to Opta Bayern is fourth in the world rankings, while Auckland ranks 4,928th. The chasm in quality was laid brutally bare as Bayern raced into a 6-0 lead at half-time courtesy of two goals each from Kingsley Coman and Michael Olise and one apiece from Sacha Boey and Thomas Mueller. The latter added a second with 89 minutes played after Jamal Musiala had helped himself to a hat-trick. Taken in a vacuum, there is nothing particularly unusual about the Bundesliga champions thrashing a non-professional side by 10 goals. But this kind of mismatch lent credence to the criticism the FIFA Club World Cup features teams that have no business taking on the world's best. When he announced the new tournament some nine years ago, FIFA President Gianni Infantino proclaimed the Club World Cup would pit together 'the best 32 clubs in the world'. The suggestion appeared wide of the mark before a ball was kicked in anger and even more so now. Auckland's city players pose ahead of the Club World Cup 2025 Group C football match between ... (Photo by Paul ELLIS / AFP) (Photo by PAUL ELLIS/AFP via Getty Images) Qualification for the Club World Cup followed two main routes: success in continental competitions over a three-year period between 2021 and 2024 and each confederation's ranking system. In practical terms, it means Liverpool, Napoli and Barcelona, who won the title in England, Italy and Spain this season are all absent. The same goes for Japan, Argentina, albeit with the caveat it produces two national champions each season, and Portugal. In fact, of the 20 countries represented in the US, only eight feature their respective domestic champions. The scenario is even more complicated as far as Auckland City is concerned. New Zealand's best two teams, Auckland FC and Wellington Phoenix, play in Australia's A-League, which is part of the Asian Football Confederation. But with the AFC spots already taken, they both missed out. Auckland City, meanwhile, is Oceania's sole representative after winning the OFC Champions League, despite being a semi-professional club. In that respect, it deserved to be taking part in the tournament. Auckland City, after all, has won the OFC Champions League 13 times in the past two decades and were regular in the Club World Cup under the old format. Bayern, after all, thrashed Dinamo Zagreb 9-2 in the Champions League earlier this season to a fraction of the fuss its demolishing of Auckland City generated. A number of Auckland players had to take time off work to play in the tournament and any criticism of the format should not be seen a slight on them nor their commitment. 'To be proud of the players is what we're after. It's a dream coming from an amateur level to play in this environment,' Auckland coach Ivan Vicelich said after the match. 'You can't hide on the field. [I'm] really proud, a lot of players put in a good amount and worked really hard.' CINCINNATI, OHIO - JUNE 15: Jonathan Tah #4 celebrates with Kingsley Coman #11 of FC Bayern Munchen ... (Photo by Stuart Franklin - FIFA/FIFA via Getty Images) But stark reality is that lopsided affair such as Saturday's do very little to legitimize FIFA's newest tournament. Consider these numbers. Bayern had 31 shots – 17 of them on target – to Auckland's one, and had 72% of possession. Auckland's goalkeeper Conor Tracey made seven saves and still conceded 10 goals. In the FIFA World Cup's 95-year history, there has never been a scoreline so big. In fact, it took 52 years for a team to score 10 goals in a World Cup game – Hungary claimed the record when it beat El Salvador 10-1 in 1982. It has taken two games at the Club World Cup and with Auckland set to face Benfica on Friday and Boca Juniors on Tuesday, another thrashing could be on the cards. And yet, the underlying irony to it all is that even if Auckland was to lose both of their remaining games 10-0, its appearance in the tournament alone will make it even stronger domestically. It stands to receive $3.5m in appearance fee, game-changing level of income for a club whose travel costs to the US was two times as big as its annual turnover. Infantino and FIFA billed this tournament as the best against the best. Three days into the competition, it is abundantly clear that is not the case. But, one suspects, Auckland may not care too much once financial considerations are factored in. And, ultimately, neither will FIFA.

European giants cruise in Club World Cup
New York, June 16 (UNI) European giants took center stage at the FIFA Club World Cup as Bayern Munich and Paris Saint-Germain cruised to emphatic opening wins. Elsewhere, Botafogo earned a narrow victory over Seattle Sounders while Palmeiras and Porto settled for a goalless draw. In Group C, attacking midfielder Jamal Musiala netted a second-half hat-trick as Bayern Munich romped to a 10-0 victory over semi-professional Auckland City on Sunday. Kingsley Coman and Michael Olise struck two goals each while Sacha Boey and Thomas Muller were also on the scoresheet as the German side raced to a 6-0 lead at halftime at TQL Stadium in Cincinnati. Musiala, a 61st-minute substitute for Harry Kane, then struck three times in 17 minutes before veteran Muller doubled his personal tally a minute from time. The New Zealand outfit could manage only one shot on target and controlled just 28% of possession against the current Bundesliga champions. Bayern's win is the biggest in the history of the Club World Cup, surpassing Al-Hilal's 6-1 victory over Al Jazira in 2021. "Job done. We played very seriously and did what we had to do," Bayern manager Vincent Kompany told a post-match news conference. "Perhaps goal difference is also important in this group. When a team sits deep and defends well, it's not a given that they'll score 10 goals. And that's why we couldn't do much more today." Auckland City manager Ivan Vicelich said he could not fault his players, some of whom had to take unpaid leave from their jobs to take part in the tournament. "This is the reality of football against one of the world's top teams," Vicelich said. "It is a dream for players coming from an amateur level to play in this environment. We knew it was going to be a very difficult game, playing against one of the top teams in the world, potentially one of the favorites for the Club World Cup, so we are just really proud of the players' efforts." In Group B, newly crowned European champions Paris Saint-Germain scored twice in each half to cruise to a 4-0 victory over Atletico Madrid in front of more than 80,000 fans at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena, California. Fabian Ruiz and Vitinha struck first-half goals for the French side and Atletico suffered another blow when Clement Lenglet was sent off for a second yellow card 12 minutes from time. Teenager Senny Mayulu and Lee Kang-in capitalized on Paris Saint-Germain's numerical advantage with late goals as the Parisians lived up to their billing as one of the title favorites. "We had the objective of making history this season, but this [the Club World Cup] is a new chapter," PSG manager Luis Enrique told reporters after the match. "It's a nice challenge for the players and the team, to want to keep winning." Brazil's Palmeiras and Portuguese side Porto played out a goalless draw in their Group A clash at New Jersey's MetLife Stadium. Led in attack by Chelsea-bound teenager Estevao, Palmeiras looked the more dangerous side but could not find a way past Porto goalkeeper Claudio Ramos, who made a series of fine saves. "We managed to create a lot of chances with our pressure but we weren't able to score the goal we deserved - that's football," Palmeiras manager Abel Ferreira said afterwards. In Sunday's other Group B duel, reigning Brazilian Serie A champions Botafogo secured a 2-1 victory over MLS club Seattle Sounders. Headers from Jair and Igor Jesus gave Botafogo a 2-0 lead at halftime before Cristian Roldan reduced the deficit when his flicked effort deflected in off Jesus' shoulder. Buoyed by their home fans at Lumen Field, Seattle grew in stature in the last 20 minutes but lacked incisiveness in the final third. "We didn't play well but we got the result that we wanted and that's the most important thing," Botafogo captain Marlon Freitas said. "We were a little nervous, but we know we can improve. Now we can rest and prepare for a difficult match against Paris Saint-Germain on Thursday." UNI/XINHUA BM
