BTS' RM says he gets ‘really jealous' when he listens to great albums: ‘I just can't be objective'
BTS' RM, aka Kim Namjoon, is back with his band as they plan a reunion after their military discharge. Amid this excitement for the bad members and their fans, RM, in a recent chat, spoke about his affair with art, and admitted that he experiences the feeling of jealousy when he listens to albums from fellow musicians. He also spoke about his Instagram feed and said that it has nothing to do with politics, and looks like a curated art gallery. With burnout and setbacks that inevitably came after over a decade of life in the spotlight, RM said he once stumbled into Chicago's Art Institute during a tour stop and found himself utterly floored. 'Just the idea popped into my head: why don't I go to the museum and see some Monet or Van Gogh?' he recalled in a chat shared on Samsung Newsroom's YouTube channel. 'I was shocked to see all of those textures.' he continued, 'My mental peace is that I don't get jealous [of fine art]… I find peace because my drawing sucks and I'm not good at it at all,' prompting some chuckles from the crowd. But the rapper admitted that when he's listening to brilliant albums from fellow musicians, he gets jealous. He said, 'Like sometimes when I listen to like, great musicians' albums, I get really jealous and I just can't be objective.' He said that this was why he turned elsewhere for escape. 'I don't get jealous of art,' he said. 'I just get peace.' From posters on his wall to a digital frame TV, he shared how his love for art evolved naturally, with no pressure to 'know it all.' He added, 'There are millions of artists out there, but maybe I know 50 or 70 that I could talk about. And that's okay.' Just a few days ago, BTS member Jungkook found himself in a similar controversy. However, RM made it clear that the art he shares on his Instagram feed has nothing to do with personal partnerships or politics. 'There's no political or profitable connection to it,' he said. 'If I like it, I share it.' He recalled how millions of his fans have helped him, and the world, discover underrated artists who deserve appreciation. Despite being labelled a 'curator' by many, RM said he doesn't see himself as one. 'I didn't major in art history,' he shrugged. 'I'm just a fan.' 'Art makes me happy,' he said, wrapping up the conversation, adding he dreams of building his own space in Seoul to bridge East and West, old and new.

‘We'll do even better': RM teases BTS comeback after discharge
SEOUL, June 13 — RM, the leader of K-pop megagroup BTS, on Friday expressed strong anticipation for the group's long-awaited return to the music scene, following his recent completion of South Korea's mandatory military service. His remarks came as the group marked its 12th debut anniversary, Yonhap News Agency reported. 'We will truly try to do even better once more,' RM wrote on the K-pop fan community platform Weverse. 'I'm going to try to go somewhere again, though I don't know where. I just want to walk romantically together.' The Grammy-nominated septet has been on hiatus from group projects since mid-2022, as members enlisted in the military to fulfil their mandatory service. South Korea requires all able-bodied men to serve between 18 to 21 months in the military. RM, whose real name is Kim Nam-joon, was discharged on Tuesday alongside fellow member V, joining Jin and J-Hope, who completed their service last year. The remaining member, Suga, is scheduled to complete his service on June 21, raising hopes of a full-group comeback within this year. In his Weverse message, RM reflected on his time away and thanked fans for their patience. 'I'm going to push through all the bushes and try adventuring into tomorrow again like Huckleberry Finn,' he wrote. 'At every daunting crossroads, I was able to endure and keep walking thanks to all of you. I'm truly grateful,' he said, expressing his appreciation to the fans who stood by his side. He added, 'We'll truly try to do even better once more. Thank you for giving us this opportunity.' — Bernama-Yonhap

BTS' RM, recently discharged from his mandatory military service, has been gushing about being back to his normal life, the work he loves, and his fans, who stood as his constant pillar through these 18 long months. Kim Namjoon and Kim Taehyung officially completed their service on June 10. Soon after, the duo went live on Weverse, opening up about their military days. But RM left fans a bit worried when he admitted being diagnosed with insomnia and had to rely on pills. Now, ahead of BTS' 12th debut anniversary, RM once again returned to Weverse, penning what he called his 'bizarre/strange' feelings but ended up leaving fans in tears with the raw emotion. In his post, the Indigo hitmaker reflected on how surreal it felt to see June 13 arrive again, admitting last year's anniversary was particularly hard. He confessed that he had been waiting for this moment even more than the fans themselves, repeating how much he waited, waited, and waited for this day to finally come. Also read: BTS' RM says mental health worsened amid HYBE issues, had to rely on pills: 'I cried all night, kept saying I was going to die' 'Hello everyone, Happy Birthday, BTS,' RM wrote, before humorously comparing the group's age to a niece from a multiverse who has grown up well. 'Last year's 06/13 was really tough… but now, June 13th, 2025 is truly here. 12th anniversary… twelve years old! It's like you're the nephews/nieces of my multiverse. I'm glad you've grown up so well.' He mentioned spending the day with his family since it also happened to be his younger sibling's birthday. 'And before showering, I broke the tip of my pencil pressing too hard, writing down these strange/bizarre thoughts. Honestly, I never thought this day would come.' As he dug deeper into his feelings, RM opened up about the weight he carries with every BTS release, every album, every comeback, every public appearance. 'How dare I create like that and confidently hand out my business/name card? They say this is love.' He spoke about reading a book titled The Precision of Love, which made him think about what it means to love someone exactly and to be loved back with the same precision. 'I think I've lived my life trying to interpret and meet your love, to receive it as precisely as I can. I'll try to go somewhere again — somewhere unknown to me. Although I still don't know well how many people, of what kind and where, are by my side now, I want to walk romantically with you all. Will you come with me?' he wrote. He also poked fun at himself for not being able to keep his message short, saying that maybe he's still too young and clumsy when it comes to expressing his feelings. The BTS leader ended by promising that BTS will do even better this time, thanking the fans once again, and signing out as Free Citizen Namjoon. 🌟 WEVERSE RM post: Hello everyone, Happy Birthday, BTS. As BTS' RM opens up about struggles post military discharge, a look at BTS songs that tackle mental health
Fans worldwide rejoiced as BTS members RM and V reunited with the public following their discharge from mandatory military service on June 10, 2025 — a milestone that quietly brought the group closer to its long-awaited comeback. However, it was during a heartfelt late-night livestream, that RM moved ARMY to tears. Speaking candidly just hours after his discharge, BTS leader Kim Namjoon opened up about the emotional and mental toll of his time in the military. What began as a simple thank-you to fans evolved into a vulnerable reflection on the challenges he faced — including intense insomnia, feelings of self-doubt, and the added weight of corporate turbulence at HYBE during that same period. As ARMY rallied around him with messages of love and support, many also revisited one of BTS' most powerful legacies: their willingness to speak openly about mental health through their music. From themes of self-love and healing to songs that articulate loneliness, pressure, and resilience, BTS has consistently used their platform to create a safe space for listeners navigating their own inner battles. Here's a closer look at some of BTS' most impactful songs that explore mental health: Love Myself As the cornerstone of BTS' Love Yourself campaign, this song delivers a powerful message about embracing your flaws and learning to prioritize self-love in a world full of unrealistic expectations. It emphasizes that true love begins within — only when you accept yourself can you fully open your heart to others. Spring Day Widely regarded as one of BTS' most poignant songs, it captures the aching emotions of grief, longing, and eventual healing. Inspired in part by national tragedies like the Sewol ferry disaster, the song assures listeners that pain is temporary — and just like the seasons, brighter days will return. Fake Love This song delves into the emotional conflict of pretending to be someone you're not in order to be loved. It explores the toll that wearing a mask takes on the soul, questioning the authenticity of love when it's built on suppressed truths and unmet expectations. Blue & Grey Written during the isolation of the COVID-19 pandemic, this song expresses feelings of depression, anxiety, and emotional fatigue. The song uses color imagery to paint a vivid picture of internal struggle, offering a quiet plea for connection and peace. 00:00 (Zero O'Clock) This gentle ballad offers a message of quiet reassurance. It speaks to those enduring difficult times, reminding them that each day ends — and with every midnight, there's a fresh chance to start over. It's a song of subtle resilience, ideal for moments of sadness or reflection. Magic Shop Inspired by a psychological concept and BTS' desire to create a safe space for fans, this track is a symbolic refuge. It invites listeners to look inward for healing and comfort, reinforcing the idea that even in darkness, one can find solace and strength within themselves. Whalien 52 This deeply metaphorical track compares the feeling of isolation to the 52-Hertz whale — a real whale known for singing at a frequency no other whale can hear. This song reflects the loneliness of feeling out of place or misunderstood, striking a chord with anyone who's felt invisible or unheard. Dis-ease From the BE album, this track cleverly plays on the word itself, addressing both literal and emotional discomfort. It tackles the stigma around mental health struggles, reminding listeners that it's okay to feel tired, anxious, or unwell — and that acknowledging those feelings is a form of strength. Life Goes On A comforting track released during the COVID-19 pandemic, this song delivers a message of hope and resilience. It reminds listeners that even in tough times, life continues — gently urging them to adapt, heal, and move forward.
