No Russians on border of Donetsk and Dnipropetrovsk oblasts

The Khortytsia Operational Strategic Group has denied Russian claims that they have reached the border of Dnipropetrovsk Oblast. Source: Viktor Trehubov, spokesperson for the Khortytsia Operational Strategic Group, on the national joint 24/7 newscast on 9 June Quote from Trehubov: "No, there are no Russians on the border of Donetsk and Dnipropetrovsk oblasts. Yes, there is fighting in the west of Donetsk Oblast, but the Russians have not reached the administrative border. Their reports about this are not true; they are lies." Details: Trehubov said there is significant Russian pressure along the entire length of the front line on the Pokrovsk front. There are always more than 50 combat engagements per day, whereas on other fronts there are fewer. He added that the Pokrovsk front has been Russia's main front for more than two years. Background: On 9 June, the Russian Ministry of Defence claimed that its units are "continuing to advance deep into the enemy's defence and have increased the area of liberated [sic] territories in Dnipropetrovsk Oblast". Ukraine's defence forces: Despite Putin's declared "truce", fighting on front continues

Despite Kremlin statements about a so-called "ceasefire" declared for Victory Day, Russian forces continue assaults and attacks along several fronts in Ukraine, including the Pokrovsk, Toretsk, Lyman, Vovchansk, Kramatorsk and Novopavlivka fronts. [Victory Day is a Russian holiday commemorating the Soviet victory over Nazi Germany in 1945, celebrated on 9 May – ed.] Source: Viktor Trehubov, spokesperson for the Khortytsia Operational Strategic Group, on the national joint 24/7 newscast Quote: "The enemy is less active, and there were no combat clashes on some fronts this morning. However, active fighting took place on a number of fronts, so we are not talking about any ceasefire. There were assault actions starting at midnight, when this supposed truce took effect – on the Lyman front, on the Vovchansk front, directly in the city of Vovchansk, in the town of Chasiv Yar on the Kramatorsk front, in the city of Toretsk and in Shcherbynka on the Toretsk front, and on the Pokrovsk front – with active attempts to advance along the entire front line. The same goes for the Novopavlivka front. So to say that they proclaimed some sort of ceasefire – as we can see, there is no sight of it on the battlefield or in the rear." Details: Trehubov noted that the Pokrovsk front remains one of the toughest. Ukrainian forces are engaged in defensive battles there. Russian troops are attempting to carry out assault operations west of the city, east of the urban agglomeration – along the Pokrovsk–Kostiantynivka road – and slightly further south to reinforce efforts on the Novopavlivka front. Quote: "In total, 65 [combat clashes] – that's not as many as on some past days, but it's currently the most intense front, the most intense section of the front. And the Russians are not giving up their attempts to improve their tactical position around the city – either to cross the Pokrovsk–Kostiantynivka road to complicate the connection between these cities, or to reach the road to Pavlohrad… or somehow support those forces trying to advance along the Novopavlivka front towards the border with Dnipropetrovsk Oblast, which, as of now, they have not managed to do. And as they planned, they will not succeed by 9 May." Background: The Ukrainian Air Force reported that no Russian drones have been detected in the air since the start of 8 May, although Moscow has stepped up airstrikes using tactical aircraft. One person was killed and two others injured in Russian guided aerial bomb attacks on Sumy Oblast on the night of 7-8 May. On 28 April, the Kremlin announced that Russian ruler Vladimir Putin had unilaterally declared a "truce" to mark the 80th anniversary of victory in the Second World War. President Volodymyr Zelenskyy called Putin's initiative to declare a three-day ceasefire a theatrical performance aimed at creating an illusion of Russia's exit from international isolation, and instead insisted on a 30-day truce, as proposed by the United States. Ukrainian defenders repel Russian assault in Donetsk Oblast: equipment destroyed, around 40 troops killed

Ukrainian defence forces have repelled a Russian assault on the village of Bahatyr in Donetsk Oblast, destroying 15 motorcycles, damaging 9 cars and killing about 40 Russian soldiers. Source: Khortytsia Operational Strategic Group on Telegram Details: The Russian military command sent an assault column of 18 motorcycles and 10 cars to break through to the village of Bahatyr in Donetsk Oblast on 26 April. Ukrainian forces reported that, thanks to the professional work of their headquarters in organising intelligence, Russian troops were detected in advance and their column was targeted. "Close cooperation between brigades, proper organisation of intelligence and clear command of operations prevented the enemy's intentions from being realised. Out of 18 motorcycles, 15 were destroyed, and 9 out of 10 vehicles were damaged. Enemy losses in manpower amounted to about 40," said the Vuhledar Tactical Group of the Ukrainian defence forces. Ukrainian forces only respond to Russian attacks during "Easter truce"

Nazar Voloshyn, spokesperson for the Khortytsia Operational Strategic Group, has stated that Ukraine's defence forces are not conducting offensive operations and are only responding to attacks by Russian troops. Source: Voloshyn in a comment to Interfax-Ukraine Quote: "We are conducting a defensive operation and are responding only to enemy attacks and assault actions, as well as to its fire on our positions [in the context of the so-called 'truce' declared by Russian ruler Vladimir Putin – ed.]." Details: Voloshyn stressed that Ukrainian soldiers will respond to the actions of Russian troops in the event that Russia violates the very "truce" it has announced. "The actions of our soldiers and of Ukraine's defence forces as a whole are and will remain mirror-like, responding rationally and in kind to each Russian strike," he said. Background: On Saturday 19 April, Russian leader Vladimir Putin announced an Easter truce, which supposedly means a halt to all hostilities in Ukraine from the evening of 19 April until midnight on 20 April. Meanwhile, Russia's Ministry of Defence stated that Russian forces would uphold the truce only if Ukraine does the same. Zelenskyy stated that Ukraine would respond in kind to any Russian ceasefire, but Russian assaults and artillery activity were continuing on some fronts. DeepState, a Ukrainian group of military analysts, reported that Ukrainian troops noticed that the Easter truce promised by the Russians was not being upheld on most fronts. Following a report from Syrskyi late in the evening on 19 April, Zelenskyy said that Russia's Easter truce did not cover Russia's Kursk and Belgorod oblasts, and that attacks had not ceased in some other areas of the combat zone. Oleksandr Prokudin, Head of Kherson Oblast Military Administration, reported continued Russian drone attacks in the oblast after 18:00 on 19 April, when the Russian "Easter truce" had supposedly come into effect. Ukrainian forces shoot down Russia's most expensive drone worth over US$300,000

The Armed Forces of Ukraine have destroyed a Merlin-VR, the most expensive Russian reconnaissance UAV, worth more than US$300,000, on the Lyman front. Source: Khortytsia Operational Strategic Group Quote: "The race for the enemy wing was organised by anti-aircraft gunners of the mechanised brigade and their brothers-in-arms from the artillery brigade." Details: Soldiers from the 63rd Mechanised Brigade crashed an expensive Russian reconnaissance drone on the Lyman front. The artillerymen arrived at the downed target before the 63rd Brigade soldiers, but the infantrymen's drone captured unique footage of the Russian target being shot down from a height of several kilometres. The Merlin-VR drone costs more than US$300,000. This Russian UAV can rise 5 km into the sky and stay in the air for 10 hours, covering 600 kilometres. Support Ukrainska Pravda on Patreon!
