Third group of Omani citizens return home safely from Iran
Muscat: In a continued effort to facilitate the safe return of Omani Citizens, Oman Foreign Ministry announced the successful arrival of 195 Omani citizens from Bandar Abbas, Iran, to Khasab Port as part of the third phase of an approved evacuation plan. The operation, carried out with close coordination between Omani authorities and diplomatic missions, also extended humanitarian support to 158 nationals of other countries who were allowed passage through Oman under the current regional circumstances. In a parallel initiative, 155 Omani citizens and a number of foreign nationals were returned by the flight from the Republic of Iraq to Oman, in collaboration with relevant agencies and the Omani Embassy in Baghdad. The Ministry reaffirmed its ongoing commitment alongside its embassies abroad to complete the remaining stages of the evacuation plan, aiming to ensure the safe return of all Omanis to their homeland.

Musandam Governorate holds meeting to boost exports, imports and logistics
Khasab: Sayyid Ibrahim Said Al Busaidi, Governor of Musandam chaired a meeting today with government officials, private sector representatives, specialists, and members of the municipal council to discuss ways to enhance export and import activities through the governorate's official ports, particularly Khasab Port, which serves as a vital hub for economic development in the region. The meeting comes as part of broader efforts to maximise the benefits of Musandam's strategic location and logistical potential, supporting economic growth and contributing to the national objectives outlined in Oman Vision 2040. Discussions focused on streamlining the movement of goods, developing infrastructure to strengthen the logistics sector, and exploring mechanisms to boost cross-border trade while increasing local value-added through export promotion and import diversification. The attendees also emphasised the importance of generating direct and indirect employment opportunities for the locals of Musandam through these activities, reinforcing sustainable development in the governorate.

OPEC Fund provides $212mln loan to Oman for Khasab-Daba-Lima Road project
The OPEC Fund for International Development (OPEC Fund) has signed a $212 million loan agreement with Oman to finance the Khasab-Daba-Lima Road Project (Sultan Faisal bin Turki Road) in the Musandam Governorate. The agreement constitutes the second tranche of a total approved loan of $392 million for the project. In October 2024, the Fund had signed a $180 million loan agreement as first tranche in support of the project. The Khasab-Daba-Lima Road Project comprises a two-lane single carriageway asphalt road, spanning approximately 70 km, between the cities of Khasab, Daba, and Lima, facilitating better access to markets and ensuring safer transport of goods and people. Oman: Musadnam ratchets up preparedness for hazardous materials
Bukha: Sayyid Ibrahim bin Said al Busaidy, Governor of Musandam, visited the Civil Defence and Ambulance Authority (CDAA) in the Wilayat of Khasab, on Tuesday. During the visit, the governor reviewed a presentation provided by the Hazardous Materials Incident Response Team. The visit aimed to inspect the level of preparedness and enhance joint coordination between the CDAA and relevant authorities to effectively respond to any emergency. The Hazardous Materials Incident Response Team at the Civil Defence and Ambulance Authority also held a meeting in Musandam Governorate under the chairmanship of Maj Gen Sulaiman bin Ali al Hussaini, Chairman of the CDAA, in the presence of representatives of relevant authorities. This meeting comes within the framework of efforts to enhance preparedness to respond to any hazardous materials incidents. During the meeting, response plans and unified operational procedures were reviewed in addition to enhancing coordination and integration between various authorities to achieve an effective response to hazardous materials incidents. Annual science fiesta pays tributes to 70 years of India–Oman ties
Students and teachers from as far as Jaalan Bani Bu Ali, Khasab, Sur, Ibri, Al Rustaq, Salalah and other schools in Muscat and nearby areas arrived at the campus of the National University of Science and Technology (NUST) to compete in the Annual Science Fiesta 2025 of the Indian Science Forum, an innovative event dedicated to 70 years of India–Oman diplomatic relations. The Annual Science Fiesta 2025 brought together bright young minds from across Oman for a dynamic celebration of science, technology and innovation. The Indian School Al Ghubra won the Rolling Trophy for the overall champion. The first runner-up was Indian School Bausher while the Indian School Al Maabela bagged the second runner-up. 'AI – Mind Meets Machine', was this year's theme in competitions such as debates, poster making, digital symposium and exhibition. More than 5,000 students vied for the Shastra Pratibha contest. The Science and Technology Achievement Award was presented to Dr Monojit Choudhury, Professor at Mohamed Bin Zayed University of Artificial Intelligence (MBZUAI), Abu Dhabi, who was also the keynote speaker. He works on natural language processing (NLP) and various branches of cognitive and social sciences. He has drawn inspiration from and contributed to the fields of historical and evolutionary linguistics, sociolinguistics, ethics, culture studies and ethnography. Tariq bin Hilal al Barwani, technologist and influencer, was honoured with the prestigious Jayakar Award. 'This award is not just a recognition of past achievements, but a call to continue building, inspiring and transforming lives,' said Tariq, adding, 'I dedicate this honour to every young dreamer who believes in the power of knowledge, resilience and service to society.' The award was presented by G V Srinivas, Ambassador of India to the Sultanate of Oman, in the presence of Dr J Retnakumar, Chairman of the Indian Science Forum, Kiran Asher and Syed Ahmad Salman, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Indian Schools in Oman.
