Jessica Biel on Her New Wine, 'The Better Sister,' and Being a Boy Mom
Every item on this page was chosen by an ELLE editor. We may earn commission on some of the items you choose to buy. Jessica Biel is standing at a place called Pocket Peak in Sonoma County, California, surrounded by golden hour light, verdant canopied vines and tilled dirt trails. The crystal embellishments on her black tweed Chanel bomber are glinting; the stained-glass sun is filling her hazel eyes. The multi-hyphenate star might be launching a brand new streaming series, The Better Sister, but right now she's in town to celebrate the launch of a new wine called Prophet + Poet, on which she has partnered with her brother and sister-in-law, Justin and Rose Biel, the renowned winemaker Jesse Katz, and Ariel and Chris Jackson (you've likely heard of Kendall-Jackson wines, a product of their family's). There are five Prophet + Poet types on offer: two Chardonnays, a Cabernet Sauvignon and two proprietary blended reds, with such romantic, brooding monikers as 'Mourning Cloak' (named for a nocturnal butterfly that plays dead) and the almost musically coined 'Broken Road' (named for a particular west-facing vineyard on Pocket Peak). 'It just felt like intuitive timing,' says Biel of her foray into the viticulture space. 'We were making these wines for each other, so it just… it really happened authentically.' To note, this is not just another celebrity alcohol brand: Prophet + Poet's story goes back to 2019, when Biel gifted her brother and his then soon-to-be-wife a bottle of bespoke red. Katz was the engineer behind that bottle. He had also created a wine for Biel and her husband, Justin Timberlake, when they married in 2012 (Katz and the Biels grew up together in Colorado). The group has stayed close, and over time they decided to officialize their amiable collaboration. Prophet + Poet's first run–all vintages from 2021–will tally only 900 cases total, with pricetags to match (these bottles' stickers start in the hundreds of dollars). 'This whole process has made me really understand why wine moves people so much,' Biel adds as we step into the vines to snap some photos. 'It becomes such a big part of so many people's stories.' She mentions loving Super Tuscans, which she first discovered with Timberlake during their travels to Italy. Biel has had a busy few days: she had been making press rounds for The Better Sister in New York City just 36 hours earlier. She then jetted home to Bozeman, Montana, to pack and regroup before flying into California. Coinciding with Biel's wine launch, Timberlake would soon perform at BottleRock, the increasingly popular Napa-based music festival located about thirty minutes from where we're standing. (While the musician was originally supposed to meet us at Pocket Peak, he stayed at the hotel with the couple's two kids, Silas and Phineas.) The Better Sister is an adaptation of a bestselling book by the same title, which was written by Alafair Burke and released in 2019. It's a stylish thriller about a troubled family, tracking, in particular, the dynamic between two very different siblings: the seemingly put-together and polished Chloe, played by Biel, and the messier Nicky, played by Elizabeth Banks. There's murder (Chloe's husband, Adam, is found dead), there's deception, there's suspense and there's beautiful real estate–from the trailer, the series' aesthetic appears to deliver a glossy, Big Little Lies-esque sheen. (Another point: Biel and Banks are executive producers on The Better Sister too, via their respective companies Iron Ocean and Brownstone Productions.) 'Secrets upon secrets upon lies upon truths,' says Biel about the storyline. 'That's what I was drawn to with this project. There's this thing between a perfect persona with an Instagram-able life, and then something completely different going on behind the scenes and inside the home. And then Chloe starts to show some really dark attributes. You see some really strange decisions. I thought, 'How do we keep her likable? How does an audience follow that? Is it even possible?'' Biel also credits the show's great writing, led by co-showrunners Olivia Milch and Regina Corrado, with her decision to get on board. 'Normally I'm in much earlier,' she says of her production work. 'This came at a little bit of a later stage. All the scripts had already been written. Of course, we talked about a few things and made some changes, and adjusted some things in post. But it was really, really solid from the moment I saw it.' Biel says she enjoyed working with Banks. 'She is amazing. She's such a boss, she does everything–she directs and produces and acts and writes, and I thought I did a lot. She does everything, and she's exactly who she is. Plus, she finds humor in everything.' The duo bonded beyond the screen, too: they're both the mothers of two sons. 'Being a boy mom is a thing,' she says, laughing. 'You can look at another mom who has boys and you just know what she's been through. You know she got hit in the head with a toy, then told she had a bad idea, then told that lunch was awful, they told 'I love you,' then given a hug.' The sun is starting to fall behind a faraway ridge, casting a deep and dark purple wash over the valley. Our group has started tasting Prophet + Poet's chardonnays inside. Biel looks out to the jagged horizon: Even though The Better Sister takes things to an extreme, she concludes there is identifiability–and maybe even threads of a cautionary tale–between her character and reality. 'I think we can all relate to this idea of presenting a certain version of ourselves,' she says. 'It's topical. And, really… it's human.' Watch The Better Sister on Prime Video

Wine Pouring Freely As Sports Embraces New Drink Partnerships
Cameron Brink took part in a Kendall-Jackson blind tasting during NBA All-Star weekend. Beer comes as ubiquitous to American sports culture as the hot dog. But now it's wine's time to shine. The rise of wine in sports spans the gamut, from an official wine for the Kentucky Derby to the 2024 addition of an official wine partner for the NBA and WNBA to full-on wine programs at venues across multiple sports. 'The rise of wine in sports partnerships with platforms like the NBA and Kentucky Derby originates from the need for wine brands to reach new consumers in non-traditional spaces,' Maggie Curry, vice president of marketing partnerships for Jackson Family Wines, tells me. 'Both the NBA and Kentucky Derby—Kendall-Jackson's partners—are high-energy platforms, where sports, fashion and culture come together.' For Kendall-Jackson, the entry started with the Kentucky Derby and the winery has now released two exclusive, limited-edition wines served at the Churchill Downs and available for online purchase for those hosting watch parties. Focusing on the large one-off event expanded in 2024, when Kendall-Jackson added the NBA as an official partner, including in-venue partnerships with the Nuggets, Magic, Suns, Pacers, Kings and Warriors that featured the buildout of themed bars and Cellar 82 by Kendall-Jackson at Golden 1 Center. The 2025 NBA All-Star weekend included the league's official wine, Kendall-Jackson, having a major ... More presence. The wines are now leveraged across multiple concessions, branded bars and high-end menus across the venues. Curry says the NBA has created its own player-led reputation as the wine league, which helps bring the worlds of fine wine and sports together. 'The wine and basketball zeitgeist is real, and it starts with the stars of basketball,' she says, noting LeBron James talking about wine on the Netflix show 'Starting 5' and former players Carmelo Anthony and Dwayne Wade starting their own wine brands. 'This, in combination with stadiums and arenas wanting to elevate their own fan experience, is a perfect moment for wine entering the space.' Partnering with the NBA, then, allowed Kendall-Jackson to capitalize on the wine momentum in and around the league while gaining a new opportunity to focus messaging to a digitally savvy, younger consumer, 'which is white space and opportunity for growth in the wine category.' Then by adding team-specific partnerships to the league deal, Curry says they can bring localized messaging capability. The San Francisco Giants added Far Niente as an official partners this season and the winery has a ... More place inside Oracle Park. The NBA isn't the only place where wine is growing in sports. Far Niente partnered this April with the San Francisco Giants, bringing the Napa Valley wine to Oracle Park through the House of Far Niente Vintage '58, a Promenade Level bar, as well as in concessions throughout Oracle Park. 'Today's wine enthusiasts seek quality and genuine narratives wherever they gather and cheer for their team at the ballpark is no exception,' says Kate McManus, vice president of marketing at Far Niente Wine Estate. 'This collaboration enables us to bring exceptional wines to fans at precisely the right time and place.' The Giants were the first MLB team to serve wine and became, in 2023, the first MLB team to employ a master sommelier to curate a wine program. 'The Bay Area is a world-renowned culinary destination, and that's reflected in Oracle Park's hospitality offerings,' says Evan Goldstein, master sommelier for the Giants. 'Visitors expect access to innovative flavors and creative menus, and with the ballpark's proximity to wine country, it just makes sense to build a robust wine program that highlights the very best of the region.' The Appellation 49 wine program at Levi's Stadium led by the San Francisco 49ers brings unique wines ... More to NFL fans. Nearby, the Appellation 49 Wine Program founded by 49ers co-chairman John York offers a collection of over 100 high-end California wines hand selected by York for Bay Area-NFL fans. Stemming from his own love and passion for wine, the program gives Levi's Stadium guests access to wines that are normally unavailable to the general public, as many participating wineries sell exclusively to members and others only produce small amounts exclusively for restaurants or high-end retailers. In other cases, participating wineries offer older vintages or library releases, making Appellation 49 the only place these wines are available. Inside Sacramento's Golden 1 Center, Kendall-Jackson opened Cellar 82, inviting fans to sample an extensive wine selection from the Californian label. Curry says fans can order collectable wines by the glass, an opportunity to taste wines typically reserved for full-bottle purchase, 'so the innovative wine system allows for both intrigue and trial.' MORE: How Celebrity Chefs Create Dishes With Levy For The U.S. Open Across the NBA, Curry says chardonnay continues to lead the way, but fans are showing more interest in cabernet sauvignon, sauvignon blanc and pinot noir. During the 2025 NBA playoffs, Kendall-Jackson's new Vintner's Reserve Chenin Blanc will make a push, all part of 'bringing access to unique wine offerings, allowing that discoverability' as arenas push higher on Kendall-Jackson's list of top-performing accounts. As wine continues to play a role in premiumization and experience in sports, Curry says to expect additional wine brands entering the sports world' 'The partnership gives you access to coveted new consumers,' she says. 'From reaching consumers at the live events at concessions or suites, or through building awareness with digital ads on their phones or through streaming TV ads, sports partnerships are a powerful and impactful tool.' Wine brands are ready to drink it up.

Forbes Billionaires List 2025: 288 New Billionaires Were Minted In 2025
Despite choppy markets, a record 3,028 entrepreneurs, investors and heirs made Forbes' 2025 World's Billionaires list, including 288 newcomers (up from 265 in 2024). These billionaire rookies, including a pioneer of heartland rock, a stand-up comedy legend and The Terminator, are collectively worth nearly $680 billion, or $2.4 billion on average. They hail from 33 countries. The United States has the most new billionaires once again, with 103 Americans added to the ranks this year, including the world's two richest newcomers: Marilyn Simons (estimated net worth: $31 billion), who is the widow of quantitative hedge fund pioneer Jim Simons (d. May 2024), and Lyndal Stephens Greth ($25.8 billion), the daughter of oil and gas tycoon Autry Stephens (d. August 2024). Germany had the second most newcomers, with 37, including the world's youngest new billionaire, 19-year-old Johannes von Baumbach ($5.4 billion), and 14 other heirs to the Boehringer Ingelheim pharmaceutical fortune. China and Hong Kong ranked third, with 32 new billionaires combined, including jeweler Xu Gaoming ($8.2 billion). India (17 new billionaires) and Russia (15) rounded out the top five. Nearly 70% of the world's newest billionaires—196 of them—are self-made, meaning they established their fortunes themselves rather than inheriting them. The richest self-made newcomer, 73-year-old Sulaiman Al Habib ($10.9 billion), hails from Saudi Arabia, whose billionaires are back on the list for the first time since 2017. Scale AI cofounder and CEO Alexandr Wang ($2 billion) is the youngest self-made newcomer at age 28. The most famous new billionaires became household names by finding success in their various art forms. Contrary to his blue-collar Americana background, musician Bruce Springsteen ($1.2 billion) now sits among the world's wealthiest class. His 21 studio albums, ten live albums and seven EPs have sold a combined 140 million copies across the globe. In 2021, Springsteen sold his music catalog to his longtime label Sony for a (pretax) lump sum of around $500 million. Movie star Arnold Schwarzenegger ($1.1 billion) pocketed hundreds of millions of dollars from the 50 movies he has starred in over the past several decades. He has also invested in commercial real estate, private equity and the stock market. Comedian Jerry Seinfeld ($1.1 billion) is benefitting from a $500 million deal for Netflix to show his eponymous sitcom over five years —and he's still raking in millions from standup shows and other streaming projects. Only 15% of the new billionaires on this year's list are women, and nearly two-thirds of them inherited their wealth. The richest exception: 71-year-old Barbara Banke, who cofounded Jackson Family Wines, known for its Kendall-Jackson wines from Sonoma, with her late husband Jess Jackson (d. 2011). Technology was the most popular field for new billionaires, with 46 building fortunes in the industry. China's Hao Tang ($4.3 billion) is the richest newcomer from the sector, thanks to an early investment in marketing software and mobile game maker AppLovin, whose shares have soared by more than 300% over the past year. Other notable new tech billionaires include Texan Ben Lamm ($3.7 billion), whose startup Colossal Biosciences is trying to resurrect the woolly mammoth, as well as Dario Amodei ($1.2 billion) and all six of his Anthropic cofounders, who raised $3.5 billion for their AI startup at a $61.5 billion valuation in March. The finance sector ranked second, with 41 newcomers on this year's list, including controversial crypto mogul Justin Sun and Australian-born private equity tycoon Michael Dorrell, who are tied as the industry's richest self-made newcomers, with estimated fortunes of $8.5 billion apiece. The healthcare sector rounded out the top three, with 40 new billionaires, including the 15 Boehringer and von Baumbach heirs from Germany.
