Man arrested for duping MNC engineer of Rs 2 lakh by promising fake degree
New Delhi: A man from Bhiwani, Haryana—identified as Kapil Jakhar—has been arrested for defrauding a system engineer working at a multinational company of Rs 2 lakh by promising to help him obtain a university degree.
Police suspect that the accused may have deceived several others by offering fake educational documents or job opportunities.
The complainant, who has been working on a contract basis with an IT firm in Gurgaon for the past 6-7 years, said that in Aug last year, the company's IT head considered making him a permanent employee. During the interview process, it was discovered that he only possessed a marksheet, not the actual graduation degree.
Consequently, the HR gave him 120 days to submit the required certificate.
When he failed to obtain the degree from the university, he discussed the issue with his manager, who provided him with Jakhar's contact details, suggesting that Jakhar could assist in getting the degree reissued, said police.
The complainant approached Jakhar, who agreed to help him for Rs 25-30,000. However, Jakhar repeatedly convinced the complainant to transfer additional sums under various pretexts related to the reissuance of the degree. Jakhar even emailed a degree document, but it was rejected by the company as it lacked an official signature. Eventually, Jakhar blocked the complainant's number and fled.
Following a probe, DCP (central) Nidhin Valsan assigned a team, led by sub-inspector Gaurav, which successfully apprehended Jakhar.
