Vijayawada: Chief secretary K Vijayanand instructed officials to make all efforts to achieve several world records and place the state at the top in the country through the 'Yogandhra' programme, scheduled to be held across the state on International Yoga Day, June 21. The main event will be held in Visakhapatnam. Vijayanand reviewed the arrangements for Yoga Andhra with secretaries and district collectors through a video conference, where he emphasized the importance of working hard over the next two days to make the programme a success. The chief secretary directed district collectors to organize yoga events with at least 5,000 people in each district center. Steps are being taken to organize the Yogandhra programme in over 1.5 lakh venues across the state, with 1.28 lakh venues already registered. The govt has set a target to ensure participation of of over 2 crore citizens in the programme. Vijayanand urged the collectors to take special steps to provide arrangements like public address systems, live screening, and drinking water at the venues. He also directed officials to upload the number of participants and photos in the in-charge login and ensure accurate data entry to achieve world records. Meanwhile, special chief secretary (medical and health) and state nodal officer M T Krishna Babu, who participated virtually in the video conference, said that the arrangements are almost complete to successfully organize the International Yoga Day in Visakhapatnam.

Vijayawada: Chief secretary K Vijayanand instructed the officials to make all efforts to achieve several world records and place AP at the first position in the country through the YogaAndhra programme, which will be organised across the state on the International Yoga Day on June 21 with Vizag as the main event. He held a video conference with the secretaries of the departments concerned and district collectors from the Secretariat on Wednesday regarding the YogaAndhra. Speaking on the occasion, he said that almost all the arrangements for the organisation of this programme have been completed. Vijayanand has instructed the district collectors to organise a major yoga event with at least 5,000 people in each district headquarters. He said that steps are being taken to organise the YogaAndhra in more than 1.5 lakh venues across the state, and 1.28 lakh venues have already been registered so far. Special chief secretary and state nodal officer M T Krishna Babu, who participated virtually in the video conference, said that the arrangements are almost complete to successfully organise the International Yoga Day in Visakhapatnam along with the main event in all the districts across the state down to the village level. Several officials, district collectors and others also participated virtually in this conference. Chief secretary Vijayanand announced that a meeting on the first step in good governance programme will be held on Monday, at the venue where the Prime Minister's meeting was recently held behind the Secretariat. He disclosed this in a video conference held with the collectors on the YogaAndhra programme from the Secretariat on Wednesday. He stated that the programme will be held from 5 pm to 8 pm on Monday.

Visakhapatnam (Andhra Pradesh) [India], June 15 (ANI): As India prepares to mark a decade of the International Day of Yoga (IDY), the city of Visakhapatnam--chosen as the national host for the 11th edition--witnessed a comprehensive field visit and high-level review meeting by senior officials from the Ministry of Ayush and the Government of Andhra Pradesh, said a statement, The review comes at a time when preparations are gaining momentum across the country, driven by the Prime Minister's clarion call to take yoga to the person at the last mile, the Ayush Ministry said in the statement. The inspection at ground level, led by Vaidya Rajesh Kotecha, Secretary, Ministry of Ayush, and K Vijayanand, Special Chief Secretary, Government of Andhra Pradesh, included senior officials such as Monalisa Dash, Joint Secretary, Ministry of Ayush, District Collector M N Harendhira Prasad, and heads of key departments including Health, Urban Planning, Ayush, and VMRDA. Their joint visit to the main sites--RK Beach, Rishikonda Beach, Andhra University and GITAM University--underscored the scale and seriousness with which the event is being planned. These venues will not only host the main yoga demonstration but will also serve as centres for cultural, educational, and wellness activities, resonating with the Prime Minister's vision of yoga as a people-centric movement. During the review, detailed discussions were held on inter-departmental coordination, mobilisation- strategies, security protocols, and cultural integration. Special emphasis was laid on the preparedness of infrastructure and public participation, ensuring that every logistical aspect aligns with the national ambition of making yoga a mass movement. Officials reviewed how various departments are coming together in a spirit of collaboration, echoing the PM's vision that yoga should unite institutions and communities in the service of collective well-being. At the heart of Andhra Pradesh's efforts is the pioneering 'Yogandhra' initiative, which aims to transform yoga into a daily practice for more than two crore citizens across the state. Designed to mobilize communities at scale, Yogandhra includes mass awareness drives, yoga camps in schools and universities, and a targeted plan to create a certified pool of 20 lakh yoga practitioners. With IDY celebrations planned at one lakh locations across the state, and five lakh participants expected in Visakhapatnam alone, the initiative is a powerful embodiment of the Prime Minister's appeal to make yoga truly inclusive, accessible, and transformative. The Ministry of Ayush lauded the proactive leadership of the Government of Andhra Pradesh, stating that the state's ambitious scale and grassroots engagement model reflect the evolving spirit of IDY as a global wellness campaign rooted in Indian tradition. Karnataka Chief Secretary Shalini Rajneesh has urged Andhra Pradesh Chief Secretary K Vijayanand to withdraw the recent ban on Totapuri mangoes entering Chittoor district of Andhra Pradesh from a letter to Andhra Pradesh Chief Secretary K Vijayanand, she expressed "serious concern" over the order by the Chittoor District Collector banning the entry of Totapuri mangoes from other ban, issued on June 7, has affected mango farmers in Karnataka, especially those near the Andhra border who grow Totapuri mangoes in large quantities. Their livelihood is dependent on mango processing units in Chittoor to sell their Rajneesh called the restriction 'abrupt and unilateral' and said it has caused distress among farmers."To enforce this order, multidisciplinary teams comprising officials from the Revenue, Police, Forest, and Marketing Departments have reportedly been deployed at all border check-posts adjoining Tamil Nadu and Karnataka," Rajneesh said in the warned that this sudden disruption in trade could lead to major post-harvest losses and financial crisis for farmers. The letter also said this action goes against cooperative federalism."There is already apprehension that affected stakeholders in Karnataka may obstruct vegetable inflows from Andhra Pradesh, escalating into unnecessary interstate tensions, something we must all strive to avoid," it said."A coordinated and consultative approach would be more appropriate for addressing any concerns related to agricultural trade and phytosanitary risks, if any, while safeguarding the interests of farmers on both sides," she mangoes are mainly grown in South India. VIJAYAWADA: Chief Secretary K Vijayanand instructed officials to ensure comprehensive preparedness for the southwest monsoon season, emphasising proactive measures to mitigate disasters like cyclones and floods. During a video conference held at the State Secretariat on Thursday, he engaged with various State departments, alongside representatives from the Indian Army, Navy, Air Force, Coast Guard, National Disaster Relief Force (NDRF), and other Central government bodies, to review monsoon readiness. He stressed the need for advanced action plans to address potential heavy rains or cyclones. He urged the State Disaster Management Authority (SDMA) and other departments to anticipate risks such as overflowing rivers, streams, and canals, and to collaborate with Vassar Labs for effective planning. He directed the SDMA and Real-Time Governance Society (RTGS) to coordinate with the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) for enhanced disaster management. He emphasised minimising loss of life and property during calamities, calling for the timely restoration of normalcy through department-specific action plans. The Water Resources Department was instructed to strengthen flood embankments, stockpile sandbags, and intensify floodplain patrolling. The Roads and Buildings (R&B) Department was tasked with keeping JCBs, cranes, and power shovels ready to clear fallen trees and restore traffic on major roads. The Panchayat Raj & Rural Development (PR&RD) Department was directed to ensure standby generators for water supply schemes and leak-free pipelines, while the Municipal Administration Department was asked to complete desilting of urban drains and canals. The Energy Department was told to stock standby generators, tree cutters, and electricity poles, and the Medical and Health Department was to ensure adequate medicine supplies and raise public awareness about preventing infectious diseases in flood-prone areas. The Civil Supplies Department was instructed to maintain sufficient stocks of essential commodities at MLS points. He directed Revenue Principal Secretary G Jayalakshmi to circulate GO No. 1 and GO No. 13, which outline increased compensation for disaster victims, to all departments. He recommended biweekly departmental reviews to ensure effective disaster preparedness.
