Kieran Tierney is 'world class' as Celtic hero compared with all time Parkhead great

Hoops fans are looking forward to seeing their old favourite in action and there is set to be a flurry of new faces this summer Tosh McKinlay insists returning hero Kieran Tierney is up there with Tommy Gemmell as one of the all-time Celtic great left-backs. The former Hoops ace is thrilled to see KT back at Parkhead after almost six years with Arsenal in the English Premier League. ‌ McKinlay is convinced Celtic have landed a world-class full-back in the prime of his career. ‌ And he believes Tierney is already on a par with the Lisbon Lions legend. McKinlay said: 'We've had some decent left backs over the years, but I think Kieran's right up there with the best of them – Tommy Gemmell being one of them. 'I think you need to defend well, but obviously the other but of the job is getting forward and getting crosses into the box for the strikers. 'So, I'm sure Kieran will be looking forward to marauding up and down the line like he did the last time. 'It's absolutely brilliant to see him back, he's a world-class left-back. 'Obviously, he's had a stint in England, but delighted to have him back. ‌ 'It's in the badge, it's in the blood. I'm really looking forward to seeing him in the first game, getting the Hoops back on. Everybody's delighted he's back. 'I'm sure the supporters will be excited about seeing him play for Celtic again.' ‌ McKinlay was delighted Celtic claimed another Double last term and he's convinced Brendan Rodgers will be determined to make the squad even stronger next season. Tierney is already in the building, youngster Callum Osmand and keeper Ross Doohan are all but confirmed and a deal is close for Swedish star Benjamin Nygren. Celts are also in the hunt for several others, such as Royal Antwerp's Michel-Ange Balikwisha and Japanese defender Hayato Inamura. McKinlay said: 'It's the silly season, there are names being thrown out there left right and centre. 'But the one that's confirmed now is Tierney, so that's a very good start as far as I'm concerned. 'We just have to wait and see what Celtic bring in, but I'm sure the manager will be keen to add to the fantastic squad that he's got at the moment. 'It's a position of strength and it's what the manager's always looking to do. 'Certain positions he'll want to strengthen and I'm sure he'll be working hard over the summer to do that.' They look just like real babies: Why reborn dolls are becoming so popular in the UAE?

Each doll comes with clothes, bottles, diapers, a stroller, and even a car seat making them feel just like the real thing./ Image: Instagram @ In the UAE, a unique trend is capturing attention, hyper-realistic baby dolls known as 'reborn dolls.' These dolls look, feel, and weigh almost exactly like real babies but are entirely artificial. Increasingly, residents are purchasing them for various reasons: as collectors' items, therapeutic aids, or simply for the novelty of their astonishing lifelike design. The rising popularity of reborn dolls in the UAE is reflected in the expanding customer base and shifting price points. A local seller operating under the Instagram account shared her insights with local news outlet KT, explaining that prices currently range between Dh300 and Dh500. This marks a significant drop compared to the early days when these dolls first entered the market. 'I started importing reborn dolls from Spain and noticed huge interest when I displayed them on Instagram,' she told KT. 'The demand was so high that I began offering them regularly. Later, lower-quality versions became available from Chinese markets at more affordable prices.' Her clientele is notably diverse, spanning children, mothers, grandmothers, and even young men who sometimes purchase the dolls as gifts for their fiancées. Every doll comes equipped with a full range of accessories, including extra clothes, hairbands, bottles, diapers, a bag, stroller, and even a car seat. She added, 'We began this business in 2014 when the dolls were much more expensive, starting from Dh2,000 and imported mainly from Spain and the United States.' Reborn dolls have not only found a place in private collections but have also become a social media phenomenon. Enthusiasts openly share their passion online, sometimes bringing the dolls into public spaces. One Instagram user posted near the Burj Khalifa, stating: 'I already have four reborns and now we are in Dubai with the newest, his name is Chase.' Yet, the dolls' striking realism can sometimes provoke discomfort. Sara, a 27-year-old Dubai resident, shared with KT that her curiosity led her to buy a reborn doll but she ultimately gave it away. 'It looked so real that it started to freak me out, especially at night,' she said. 'There were times I'd walk into the room and feel like there was an actual baby just lying there. I couldn't handle it.' In contrast, some view reborn dolls as valuable educational tools. Layla, a mother from Sharjah, recently bought one for her nine-year-old daughter. 'She's been asking for a baby sister for years,' Layla explained. 'This was the closest I could offer, and honestly, it's helping. She changes the diaper, feeds it, puts it to sleep. It's teaching her a sense of responsibility and care.' Both women agree on one thing: the level of detail is astonishing. From the doll's weight to tiny eyelashes and hand-painted skin tones, and the incredibly realistic, indistinguishable hair, with every feature is crafted to mimic a real baby. Reborn dolls blur the line between a toy and lifelike art. The reborn doll phenomenon extends far beyond the UAE. Internationally, these dolls have sparked fascination and controversy, particularly in countries like Brazil. There, the hyper-realistic dolls serve multiple purposes, including grief therapy for individuals coping with loss and as practical tools for new parents learning infant care. The dolls have become a frequent topic on social media, attracting both devoted fans and critical observers. In Brazil, the trend has even spurred political debate. Some lawmakers have proposed restrictions on reborn dolls, citing concerns, while others defend the rights of collectors to engage freely with them. Reports have surfaced of owners bringing reborn dolls to hospitals and demanding real infant care, a phenomenon that has raised eyebrows and fueled further discussion.

Petrol prices, flight tickets: How Israel-Iran conflict could affect UAE residents

[Editor's Note: Follow the KT live blog for live updates on the Israel-Iran conflict.] The UAE remains a haven despite the ongoing geopolitical crises in the Middle East. In the ongoing Israel-Iran war, there will be no direct impact on residents. However, there could be some indirect impact influence, including higher petrol prices in July, increased costs of gold jewellery, and higher airfare to certain destinations. Prices of consumer goods from countries involved in the conflict and that have closed their airspace could also see a spike in the coming days if the conflict continues. Higher petrol price Oil prices have surged since Israel attacked Iran on Friday morning, pushing prices higher by 14 per cent. The WTI and Brent closed at $72.98 and $74.23 per barrel, up 7.26 and 7.02 per cent, respectively, over the weekend. Since the UAE deregulated retail petrol prices in 2015, prices have been aligned with international prices and are revised monthly. Over the weekend, both warring countries targeted each other's oil storage facilities, and this could push oil prices even higher when market reopen on Monday. This could also push petrol prices higher for UAE motorists next month. Stay up to date with the latest news. Follow KT on WhatsApp Channels. 'Iran's missile barrage and Israel's vow to escalate with strikes on nuclear and energy sites signal a dangerous tit-for-tat spiral. The playbook points to Iran targeting Israeli energy infrastructure next. This isn't just a regional flare-up—it's a powder keg for global markets,' said Naeem Aslam, an analyst at the London-based Zaye Capital. Higher gold jewellery Gold is a safe commodity for investors during military or trade conflicts. Since Israel-Iran war broke out, gold prices have jumped nearly Dh5 per gram in Dubai. The UAE residents tend to buy gold jewellery when travelling abroad during summer break, this means they will have to shell out more when buying precious metal jewellery. With prices already trading high at Dh413.5 per gram for 24-karat on Sunday, this could dent demand for gold jewellery. "Gold is the only fortress standing firm as Middle East tensions boil over. With oil prices spiking 6-13 per cent on supply disruption fears, which is only a start, it's a smart hedge to shield portfolios from the chaos. Expect more upside as the conflict deepens,' added Aslam. Higher airfares According to flightradar24, approximately 3,000 flights were affected per day through cancelled or re-routes due to the tension. This includes flight delays, cancellations and rerouting of the UAE carriers — Emirates, flydubai, Etihad Airways and Air Arabia. The UAE airlines have suspended some flights to Iran, Iraq, Israel, and Jordan due to the airspace closure. This has resulted in many passengers to delay their travel plans. When the regional conflict ends, which we hope soon, this will push airfares higher in the short term due to travel rush and demand. Consumer goods Prices of certain goods imported from regional countries with closed airspace could see an increase in rates. Iran, Iraq, Syria, Jordan and Israel had closed their airspace due to military conflict. This could disrupt the supply chain and cause delays in the import and export of goods. For example, Iran's exports to the UAE are minerals, organic chemicals, edible fruits and vegetables, salt, carpets, dairy products, and fertiliser, among others.

Champion signs multi-year deal with Irish 'boxing great' Katie Taylor

Global sportswear brand Champion has widened its association with combat sports, signing Irish fighter Katie Taylor to a multi-year deal. The association has been sealed ahead of the bell ringing for her highly anticipated third bout in the series against Amanda Serrano at Madison Square Garden, airing live on Netflix on 11 July. The link's understandable, given Taylor's 'a force in the ring… becoming synonymous with grit, greatness, and unshakable belief and is considered by many to be the greatest female fighter of all-time', says Champion. And there's another good reason for the association: the second bout in the trilogy drew 74 million viewers globally. To accompany its support, the brand has lunched a limited-edition 'KT' Reverse Weave T-shirt 'which pays tribute to her extraordinary career', as well as a bespoke fight kit and team gear for the Serrano encounter. The associated apparel line also includes the launch later this year of a ' next-generation combat sports range… shaped by deep collaboration and insights from Taylor'. Following Champion's signing in May of UFC Heavyweight Champion Tom Aspinall, the latest collaboration 'supercharges Champion's commitment to the world of combat sports, a space defined by discipline, intensity, and the relentless pursuit of excellence'. Champion's association with the sport is long-standing and claims 'the invention of the hooded sweatshirt', as well as 'pioneering mesh nylon jerseys for football players… Champion has consistently delivered functional, performance-driven gear rooted in athlete insight. Many of these innovations have transcended sport to become cultural icons'.
