KSRTC uncovers diesel theft attempt during tanker inspection at Pandavapura depot in Karnataka's Mandya dist.
A case of attempted diesel misappropriation was uncovered by officials of the Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) during a routine fuel tanker inspection at the Pandavapura depot in Karnataka's Mandya district. According to KSRTC officials, the detection was made on May 13, when a tanker arrived at the depot to deliver 20,000 litres of diesel from a terminal in Hassan. According to KSRTC officials, the fuel decanting team at the Pandavapura depot, led by the depot manager, noticed an anomaly during the preliminary inspection of the tanker. 'We observed a shortage of about 130 litres in the fourth compartment of the vehicle. A detailed inspection revealed a 15 mm external tube illegally inserted into the delivery pipe,' said a senior KSRTC official. 'This tube was set up in a way that allowed fuel to be diverted directly into the diesel tank of the tanker itself. It was a clear and calculated attempt to siphon diesel before delivery,' the official added. Following this discovery, the depot manager immediately lodged a complaint with the Assistant Commissioner of the Legal Metrology Department (Weights and Measures) in Mandya. A joint team from the department visited the depot on May 14 and confirmed the illegal arrangement. 'A case was registered under Section 15 of the Legal Metrology Act, 2009. The tanker, along with related documents, was seized,' the official said.

KSRTC moderates charges for charter services
Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala state road transport corporation (KSRTC) introduced an affordable chartered bus service for weddings and private travel needs, using spare buses and optimising unused schedules. The initiative is part of a revenue-generation strategy as per transport minister's directive and aimed at reducing operational costs while maximising income. As per the new plan, KSRTC significantly slashed rates for chartered trips, categorising fares into four slabs —A, B, C and D— based on bus type and services. The revised tariffs apply across all classes, from ordinary buses to premium Volvo coaches. Many of these buses were made roadworthy after maintenance and repairs, enabling KSRTC to deploy them for private use. For example, a mini bus can now be hired for just Rs 3,500 (inclusive of GST) for a four-hour, 40-km round trip. Longer durations and distances are also covered in the pricing structure —8 hours (100km), 12 hours (150km) and 16 hours (200km)— with additional charges applicable per km depending on the class of bus. For ordinary buses, the revised base rate for four hours is Rs 3,600, a drastic drop from the earlier Rs 8,500. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Dermatologist Says "No Lotion On Dark Spots! Kollam Panchayat VP Catches Thieves In Heroic Filmy Chase On Busy Kerala Street
Last Updated: Jalaja Suresh didn't lose her calm and acted mindfully after two women quietly stole a hefty sum from her handbag on a KSRTC bus. In a gripping display of courage and quick thinking, Jalaja Suresh, vice‑president of Neduvathoor Grama Panchayat, took extraordinary action after two women quietly stole a hefty sum from her handbag on a KSRTC bus. The incident unfolded around 2 pm on Monday, as Jalaja — who also works as a post‑office recurring deposit (RD) agent — travelled from Kundara to Kottarakkara with nearly Rs 2 lakh in cash, intended for her RD clients. As the bus slowed at Manikandan Althara near Kottarakkara, Jalaja stood to disembark. Two women, mistaking her movements for an invitation, inched closer to the exit. One even asked, 'Is this Chandamukku?" spotting her uneasy response prompted their retreat — a small detail that later would unravel the theft. Moments later, Jalaja discovered her bag's zip open and the cash missing. Bypassing hesitation, she flagged down an autorickshaw and followed the bus to Chandamukku. Traffic stalled her chase until a vigilant traffic police officer intervened — opening a path and enabling her to close in as the suspects attempted to flee in another auto. Undeterred, Jalaja leapt onto the handle of the moving vehicle, yanked the two women from their seats, and apprehended them by their sarees. Bundles of stolen notes tumbled to the road during the scuffle. The accused — identified as 45‑year‑old Shelvi and her 27‑year‑old daughter Athini from Gobichettipalayam, Tamil Nadu — claimed innocence, asserting the cash 'fell out" of Jalaja's bag. However, police confirmed the duo are notorious habitual thieves, known to operate under various aliases. Authorities found substantial stolen funds hidden in their clothing. Their images have reportedly been circulated across 52 locations in Kerala following earlier incidents. Jalaja, who has served on the panchayat for over a decade and managed RD accounts for about 25 years, credited her decisive reaction for the recovery. 'If I had hesitated even a bit, all the money would have been lost," she told reporters. She also praised the support of the autorickshaw driver, traffic police, and local bystanders The duo was handed over to Kottarakkara local police. As investigations continue, authorities are verifying the mother‑daughter claim, though their pattern of theft across state lines suggests organised activity. First Published:

After 8-year gap, Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation recruits 2,000 drivers
Bengaluru: To address a long-standing staff crunch, (KSRTC) inducted 2,000 new driver-cum-conductors on Tuesday — the first major recruitment drive in eight years. The corporation, grappling with a shortage of around 5,000 drivers and conductors, had previously resorted to outsourcing 2,000 drivers through private agencies to keep services running. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now The delay in recruitment was attributed to multiple factors, including the Covid-19 pandemic, financial constraints, and restrictions from the state govt on fresh appointments. With the induction of new staff, KSRTC plans to add more bus schedules in the coming days. On Tuesday, transport minister Ramalinga Reddy symbolically handed over appointment letters to 51 top-performing candidates who had secured the highest marks during the selection process. KSRTC received 25,494 applications for the posts, of which 13,954 were shortlisted for the selection process.

KSRTC resumes recruitment after eight years, issues appointment orders to 2,000 new driver-cum-conductor recruits
After eight years, the Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) has resumed large-scale recruitment, with appointment orders issued on Tuesday to 2,000 driver-cum-conductor candidates. The event took place at the KSRTC central office in Bengaluru, where Transport Minister Ramalinga Reddy symbolically distributed appointment letters to 51 candidates. The long-delayed recruitment process, originally notified in 2020, was halted owing to the COVID-19 outbreak. It was revived in October 2023 after government approval, and the final selection list was published on June 12, 2025, following a fully computerised and merit-based process, including skill tests conducted at Humnabad and Hassan training centres. Mr. Reddy said: 'We have conducted a transparent recruitment process and I urge the recruits to serve with responsibility, especially in ensuring the safety and comfort of women and students.' The KSRTC has made 2,500 appointments in the last 18 months, including compassionate jobs to 209 dependents. 'Other employee welfare initiatives include the ₹1 crore Sarige Suraksha accident insurance and a revised Family Welfare Scheme offering ₹10 lakh compensation for natural deaths. Computerised counselling for the new recruits is under way and all appointees are expected to join duty by July 5, 2025,' a senior KSRTC official said. Meanwhile, the lack of regular recruitment over the years had led to a severe staff shortage in KSRTC, affecting the quality of services. Ravi Kumar (name changed), a KSRTC driver with 15 years of experience, said: 'It's a relief that new staff have finally been appointed. There was a serious shortage, and many of us were unable to take timely leaves because of the workload. With more trips being added and responsibilities increasing, the new recruits will definitely ease the pressure on existing employees.'
