Telangana: BJP MP Arvind Dharmapuri terms Banakacherla's project meeting
Hyderabad (Telangana) [India], June 19 (ANI): BJP MP Arvind Dharmapuri has criticised the proposed meeting by Telangana Irrigation Minister Uttam Kumar Reddy on the Banakacherla project. He further highlighted the absence of communication between the Chief Ministers of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana on the issue. 'Banakacherla project is the Andhra Pradesh govt's proposal. The Centre has not received any major documentation yet. According to me, the Centre will go as per the CWC guidelines and the Godavari River Board. Till now, there is no correspondence between the CMs of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana on this. The meeting, called by Uttam Kumar Reddy, is a sheer eyewash. He has no clue about what Telangana wants, how the state will move forward if Telangana needs more water. We have info that Uttam Reddy is operating on KCR's orders,' he said. Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) MLC K Kavitha also voiced strong opposition to the Banakacherla project under the proposed Godavari-Cauvery river linking, alleging that it would deprive Telangana of its rightful share of river water and leave several districts in the state parched. She further criticised Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy, claiming that he has failed to effectively intervene and stop the decision being made by the Central government. Speaking to ANI, K Kavitha said, 'In the proposed river linking project of Godavari-Cauvery, Telangana will lose its water share because now Andhra Pradesh CM Chandrababu Naidu is trying to change the linkage point from Telangana to the Andhra Pradesh region. We are severely objecting to it.' 'Unfortunately, Telangana CM Revanth Reddy is not able to effectively stop this decision being made by the Central government. If the linkage point is shifted to Andhra Pradesh, half of the Telangana districts will be left parched. We will lose rights to the Godavari river water in the future. We severely object to this particular river linkage project, which is under the name Banakacherla,' the BRS MLC stated. The Godavari-Banakacherla Link Scheme is a massive project proposed by the Andhra Pradesh Government at an estimated cost of Rs 80,112 crore. The plan involves diverting 200 TMC of water from the Godavari River at Polavaram to Rayalaseema through the Bollapalli reservoir and Banakacherla head regulator. The proposal seeks to interlink the Godavari, Krishna, and Penna rivers. In April, the Telangana government decided to approach the Supreme Court against two major river interlinking projects proposed by the Andhra Pradesh Government - the Godavari-Banakacherla Link Scheme and the Rayalaseema Lift Irrigation Scheme (RLIS), state Minister for Irrigation, Food and Civil Supplies, Uttam Kumar Reddy had said. She said whenever the bill is passed, the BRS hopes that the local body elections in the state will be conducted and also demanded the state government implement the bill; otherwise, the party won't allow the local body elections in the state. 'Telangana state has been looking forward to the implementation of the Backward Classes reservation bill. We all fought very hard for it... Unfortunately, it is stuck at the President's level. Meanwhile, following the Union Government's caste enumeration decision, the Karnataka government has decided to conduct a second socio-economic survey in the state. On Friday, Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah announced the initiation of a new socio-educational survey to be completed within 90 days. He said that as per the law, it was necessary to conduct a fresh survey. CM Siddaramaiah said, 'The last socio-educational survey was conducted a decade ago during my previous tenure (2013-2018), but its recommendations were not implemented due to political changes. Now, ten years have passed since the Kantharaju report (2015), and as per law, particularly Section 11(1) of the Backward Classes Amendment Act and Articles 14, 15, and 16 of the Constitution, it is necessary to conduct a fresh survey. The Karnataka Cabinet has unanimously decided to initiate a new socio-educational survey, to be completed within 90 days.' He further said that the focus was on updating data to ensure fair representation. 'There has been no discussion on removing any community; rather, we are focusing on updated data to ensure fair representation. Funds will be released to expedite PRLIS: Telanagan Dy CM Bhatti
HYDERABAD: Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka on Friday alleged that the BRS leaders, when they were in power, looted the state like bandits. Referring to BRS MLC K Kavitha's recent remarks against her own party leaders, he said: 'Even their own family members are now exposing the BRS leaders.' The deputy CM was addressing a public meeting after laying the foundation for 12 sub-stations at Devarakadra. He emphasised that real democracy is being upheld now with funds being spent on public welfare under the leadership of Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy. Efforts are being made to transform Telangana into a globally competitive state, he added. After laying the stone for 12 sub-stations, he said that the government will fast-track the Palamuru-Rangareddy Lift Irrigation Scheme works by releasing required funds. He also announced that funds for R&R and land acquisition would be released immediately. 'The gap between the Narlapur and Edula reservoirs will be filled with necessary funding,' he said and recalled that when `70 crore was needed for the Uddandapur R&R package, the government released them without any hesitation. Referring to Krishna river water, he said the people of Palamuru region dreamed of utilising these waters, which is why they demanded a separate state. 'But during their 10-year rule, the previous rulers couldn't provide irrigation even to a single acre,' he said. The deputy CM also said that all major irrigation projects in the erstwhile Mahbubnagar district — Jurala, Koilsagar, Bheema, Nettempadu, and Kalwakurthy — were completed by the Congress governments. 'If the previous Congress government had given permission for the Palamuru-Rangareddy project, then in June 2015, KCR laid the foundation at Karivena and promised to complete it in three years. It's been 10 years... why couldn't he provide water?' he asked. Vikramarka hailed the free RTC bus travel scheme for women across the state and wondered why the 'financially sound' BRS government failed to implement it earlier. He said the current people's government aims to turn one crore women into crorepatis within five years. 'As part of this, within the first year of our rule, `21,000 crore interest-free loans have been given to self-help groups.' he said. 'You don't need to be an MLA to do business or get contracts,' he said and added, 'You need to elect MLAs who will raise the people's voice in the Assembly and protect democratic values. I congratulate the people of Mahbubnagar for electing such representatives.'
