Officials must work on the ground: Hebbalkar
Udupi: With the district experiencing more rainfall than usual, officials must work on the ground to ensure that the public does not face any inconvenience, said Laxmi Hebbalkar, minister of women and child development and Udupi district minister. Presiding over the quarterly KDP meeting on Friday, the minister said that Rs 4.5 crore was released to prevent sea erosion, and the work must be expedited. The minister instructed port department officials to identify areas affected by sea erosion from Hejmadi in Kaup taluk to Shiroor in Byndoor and submit a report to the govt. The maintenance of Malpe port should be done properly. CCTV should be installed, and security and cleanliness should be maintained, the minister directed port department officials. "Special attention should be given to tourism and sports development. The district should grow as a major tourism centre. It is a naturally beautiful place with religious sites, and it should attract more tourists. Unauthorised homestays should be curbed, and children under 18 should not be employed at tourist spots. Steps should be taken for the development of tourism and sports under the PPP model," the minister said. The company that supplied substandard seeds to farmers in the district should be blacklisted, and strict action should be taken. Horticulture department officials should ensure that govt schemes reach the people. Awareness should be raised about high-income generating fruits, she said. "In the coastal region of the state, fishing activities are more prevalent. However, only 25 houses are being approved under the housing scheme. Other districts are also being given 25 houses. Steps will be taken to resolve these issues," she said. The Varahi irrigation works were initiated five years ago, but compensation has not yet been provided, and crops have not been allowed to grow. This is causing a lot of trouble for farmers. Suitable compensation should be provided to farmers by the next meeting, the minister said. MLAs Yashpal Suvarna, Kiran Kumar Kodgi, Gururaj Gantihole, Gurme Suresh Shetty, MLCs Manjunath Bhandary, Dhananjay Sarji, deputy commissioner Swaroopa TK, zilla panchayat CEO Prateek Bayal, superintendent of police Hariram Shankar, DFO Ganapati, and other departmental officials were present at the meeting.

BJP to stage protests at 399 locations in Dakshina Kannada on June 23 against Congress govt's 'anti-people' policies
MANGALURU: Dakshina Kannada BJP will hold protests simultaneously at 399 locations in the district to oppose the anti-people policies of the Congress govt in the state. Dakshina Kannada MP Capt Brijesh Chowta told reporters here on Tuesday that protests will be held in front of all the 223 gram panchayats, two city municipalities, three town municipalities, eight town panchayats, and Mangaluru City Corporation (MCC) on June 23. 'The party decided to hold simultaneous protests to draw the govt's attention to various demands of the people. Elected representatives from the BJP have been raising various issues at the KDP meets, legislature sessions, and submitted memorandums to the ministers. Since the govt has not responded to the demands, the party has decided to unite people to launch a massive protest,' he said. People in the district are not able to construct houses due to confusion regarding Form 9 and 11 pertaining to their land. The govt should simplify the process as people are pushed from pillar to post to get building plans at present. Meanwhile, applications submitted by farmers for regularisation of land under Akrama Sakrama were being rejected even without bringing the matter to the notice of the respective Akrama Sakrama Samitis headed by MLAs, the MP said. 'Officials have been rejecting Akrama Sakrama applications unilaterally as part of an anti-farmer policy of the govt. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like She Had No Idea Why Boyfriend Wanted Her To Shower Twice Daily, Until She Met His Mom BimBamBam Read More Undo Those farmers, who have been protecting the kumki land from the land mafia, have no protection,' he said. The Congress govt has failed to sanction houses under the Ashraya Scheme to the poor. Each gram panchayat was sanctioned 50 to 100 houses under the scheme during the BJP tenure, he said, demanding at least 100 houses should be sanctioned in each gram panchayat under the scheme. Denial of pension for senior citizens under the Sandhya Suraksha scheme is another major lapse of the govt. In fact, the govt is trying to snatch the benefits under various social security schemes to cover up the loss caused to the exchequer due to corruption, he alleged. The govt has even failed to provide relief to families affected by rain damages in the district. 'The issue will be raised during the next KDP meeting to be chaired by District Minister Dinesh Gundu Rao,' he added.

Keurig Dr Pepper Unveils First-Ever State of Beverages Report
2025 trend report reveals generational shifts reshaping beverage culture – driven by flavor obsession, personalization and wellness – while classic favorites still hold strong BURLINGTON, Mass. and FRISCO, Texas, June 11, 2025 /PRNewswire/ -- Keurig Dr Pepper (NASDAQ: KDP) today released its State of Beverages 2025 Trend Report, an inaugural, insight-rich report exploring the functional, emotional and generational dynamics driving America's beverage choices. More than just a look at what's in our cups, the report dives into why we drink what we do, drawing primarily from national surveys and KDP's own proprietary data. The result is a robust view into how beverages are shaping and reflecting American life in 2025. "Today's consumers don't just drink to hydrate—they drink to energize, indulge, connect, feel comforted, express themselves and more. Whether seeking well-being or a nostalgic favorite, beverages are deeply personal and understanding what's driving those choices has never been more critical," said Tim Cofer, CEO of Keurig Dr Pepper. "Our inaugural trend report makes clear the essential role beverages continue to play in consumers' everyday lives and strongly indicates that Americans, led by the younger consumer, are seeking even more personalization, variety and better-for-you options than ever before. The key for companies like ours is being in sync with people's lives, showing up with the right beverage for the right moment, with the flavor, function and feeling they're looking for." Among the top findings in the report: Coffee is our non-negotiable ritual. 52% of Americans reach for coffee first thing, with 59% saying they'd rather skip breakfast than miss their caffeine fix and 73% of those age 21+ confirming they would rather give up all alcohol at night versus skip their morning coffee or caffeine. Carbonated soft drinks (CSDs) are an indulgent refreshment. 58% of Americans say CSDs are more refreshing than other beverages and they are the top beverage chosen as a treat. Flavor drives choice: 59% of Americans rate 'new flavors' as the overwhelming winning attribute that motivates new beverage trial versus 29% low/zero sugar and 28% physical health benefits. Gen Z is leading beverage exploration: 72% of Gen Z (compared to 44% of Americans) try new beverages monthly. 75% customize their beverages and more than half choose beverages to "stand out". Premiumization is appealing: 46% of consumers are willing to pay more for beverages that they consider premium, which they associate with better quality, better ingredients and attractive packaging. Sips are sought for wellness: An overwhelming majority of Americans (82%) say drinking their favorite beverages helps restore their mental health and 66% seek out beverages that improve their physical health. Sober-curious is on the rise. 58% of consumers now prefer non-alcoholic beverages when hanging out with friends and Gen Z (21+) is leading the shift, with only 39% choosing alcohol as their go-to beverage for socializing. Unlike traditional consumption reports, the State of Beverages 2025 Trend Report looks beyond volume and sales to explore emotional and functional motivations behind beverage choices as heard directly from consumers, providing a compass of where beverage culture is now and where it's headed next.
