Rationalisation of high school teacher posts creates chaos in Karnataka; special teachers to be removed from 70% govt, aided schools

HUBBALLI: The govt has initiated the rationalisation of high school teacher posts across the state. As it has decided to squash the post of special teachers in govt and aided high schools with a student strength of less than 350, almost 70% of high schools are expected to be deprived of special teachers. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now At the other end, the post of Mathematics (Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics) teacher is being reduced from two to one, and the senior PCM teacher is being shifted to another school. This move has created chaos among high school teachers and students in the state. It is learnt that the education department is preparing to release the 'additional teachers list' in the first week of July and plans to shift them to other schools within 2-3 days, so that teachers do not have time to question it in the Karnataka Administrative Tribunal (KAT). However, many PCM teachers are preparing to approach KAT as soon as they receive the order considering them as 'additional teachers'. According to the circular, high schools with a maximum strength of 280 students can have seven teachers—one each for General Science, Social Science, Mathematics, Physical Education, and three languages. If the strength is between 281-350, there can be two PCM teachers. 'Without any reason, the department posted TGT PCM teachers, who were appointed in primary schools earlier, to high schools where the students' strength was about 100, two years ago. Officials orally said that it was done as per NEP. Now, the department is transferring teachers, who were working just for 2-3 years in the school, considering us as additional teachers,' said many PCM teachers who are facing unwanted transfer now. The circular also instructs that there need not be any special teachers teaching one of the subjects from music, drawing, drama-dance, and craft in schools with a student strength of less than 350. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now Karnataka State High School Assistant Teachers' Association President Siddabasappa B said that he has told PCM teachers to question this move through their DDPIs. 'The govt should ensure that all students of about 5,000 govt high schools should get special education,' he commented. Educationist Dr VP Niranjanaradhya noted that according to the Asian Development Bank's recent report on the 'Universalisation of Secondary Education', the dropout rate at classes 9-10 is 22.1%, while the national rate is 14.1%. 'It's an alarming sign for the state, and if the govt intends to rationalise teacher posts, it will help private institutions to grow. Incentivisation like bicycles for high school girls has been stopped for 5 years. Mere rationalisation is not a solution. There should be well-connected primary and high schools to prevent dropout at the high school stage. High schools within 5 km, feeder schools should be connected. The state has only 1.3% of schools that have continuous 1-10 classes,' he observed. Quote hanger: 'The circular is issued as per the decision of the govt. If we get representations from teachers, students, parents, and other stakeholders, we will re-look into it.' - KV Trilok Chandra, Commissioner of Public Instruction, Bengaluru

Govt should ensure disabled-friendly infra in public places, rules Kerala HC

Kochi: High court, in a significant judgment, held that the state govt must ensure that infrastructure facilities in public places are accessible to persons with disabilities, and observed that if the govt fails to provide such facilities, a govt servant cannot be compelled to work in a manner that goes against their physical ability. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now The court was considering a petition filed by the state challenging the Kerala Administrative Tribunal's (KAT) order allowing an interdepartmental transfer to T Rajeev, a senior grade typist in the motor vehicles department (MVD), Thrissur, on account of his physical disability, and dismissing the decision to reduce his salary. Rajeev had sought a transfer to the irrigation department, citing his inability to climb the upper floor of the building where the MVD office is located. He requested to be appointed as an LD typist in the irrigation department's Thalappilly subdivision office, which functions from the ground floor of the same building. The govt rejected his application, prompting him to approach the KAT, which in 2020 directed consideration of his request in light of the provisions under the Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act, 2016. While the govt subsequently permitted the transfer, it reduced his salary from that of a senior grade typist to that of an LD typist, despite his claim to the higher scale. This led to further litigation, and the tribunal held that Rajeev was entitled to retain his original salary, and any reduction would violate the provisions of the Disabilities Act. The state then moved HC against the tribunal's orders. Examining the matter, HC observed that it was the govt's statutory duty to provide a physical environment conducive to Rajeev's abilities. Instead of addressing the issue, it was Rajeev who found a practical solution by seeking an interdepartmental transfer. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now HC emphasised that the govt cannot abdicate its responsibility under the Disabilities Act. The division bench set aside the interdepartmental transfer. It clarified that Rajeev cannot be forced to take the staircase to the upper floor and must be provided with a working environment suitable to his condition. The court also directed the state to issue appropriate orders within a month and continue paying Rajeev the salary he is entitled to.

'Knicks Wouldn't Reach ECF Without KAT': Ex-NBA Player Defends Karl-Anthony Towns Amid Criticism

'Knicks Wouldn't Reach ECF Without KAT': Ex-NBA Player Defends Karl-Anthony Towns Amid Criticism originally appeared on Fadeaway World. The New York Knicks saw a massive shift in their roster when they made a trade with the Minnesota Timberwolves to acquire Karl-Anthony Towns. Although Towns' impact was largely positive, the big man has faced a lot of criticism, bearing the blame for New York's exit from the playoffs. In light of this, former NBA player Lou Williams had to step in to defend the forward. While speaking on "Run It Back", he said: Advertisement "Get off KAT's back. We also gotta stop allowing X and Instagram to be our GMs... There ain't a lot of KATs lying around that you can just get rid of and feel like you're going to have a better opportunity to win." "If you've got an opportunity to get a Giannis or somebody, sure. You take a look at everything. But that was his first season as a New York Knick, and they got to the ECF. There's a lot of adjustments to be made." Williams acknowledged Towns' defensive shortcomings, a point of concern for the Knicks, but he added that this was one among many mistakes that accumulated, eventually resulting in a loss. He then added to his statement by saying, "If it wasn't for KAT, y'all would've been sent home 72 hours earlier anyways. So give these guys credit and give them an opportunity to get better and grow." Advertisement Towns' performance in the ECF could be considered consistent. His ability to stretch the floor, along with his sustained offensive output in the paint during Game 5 of the ECF, was crucial in keeping their playoff hopes alive. The Knicks' big man recorded 24 points and 13 rebounds for the game while shooting 50% from the field, attempting only four shots from beyond the arc. The 29-year-old practically reinvented himself with the Knicks. While he was already considered one of the best sharpshooting big men in the league, Towns showcased an aggression that was highly beneficial for the team during the ECF series. Towns notched an average of 24.4 points, 12.8 rebounds, and 3.1 assists per game in the regular season. Although these numbers did take a bit of a hit in the playoffs, the change wasn't drastic enough to garner the kind of scrutiny that he has. Advertisement Regardless, the Knicks find themselves in a strange position heading into the offseason. After a commendable run through the playoffs, New York will still be looking to shake things up to improve. The Knicks are rumored to be making some personnel changes. While head coach Tom Thibodeau seems to have the support of the franchise, the team may see some major adjustments. With links to superstars in trade rumors forming the narrative of the offseason, the organization will attempt to build a roster that can secure a championship for the city. Knicks rumors: Teammates frustrated by Karl-Anthony Towns' defensive execution

The post Knicks rumors: Teammates frustrated by Karl-Anthony Towns' defensive execution appeared first on ClutchPoints. After watching their favorite team drop a brutal Game 6 effort against the Indiana Pacers, New York Knicks fans were not particularly happy with Karl-Anthony Towns. Advertisement Once expected to be the missing piece of an NBA Finals-winning roster, KAT was instead a big reason why the team came up short, so much so that multiple personalities were already mocking him in trades for the offseason. And to make matters worse for the KAT camp, James L. Edwards III and Fred Katz of The Athletic dropped a massive article on what went wrong with the Knicks' playoff run that painted the stretch big in a not-so-pleasant light. 'Publicly, Knicks players made veiled comments all season about poor communication causing their inconsistencies,' Edwards III and Katz wrote. 'Behind the scenes, they and coaches expressed frustration with Towns' defensive habits — less concerned with his talent level and more with his process on that end. Too often, Towns executed incorrect coverages without communicating why he did it. After it became a theme, players worried Towns didn't grasp the importance of the matter.' While Towns wasn't exactly known for his ability to play solid defense during his run with the Timberwolves, he was targeted often during the Knicks' playoff run, to the point where games often came down to how many shots he made versus how many he gave up. While some hurt feelings could ease with time, one has to wonder if the Knicks and KAT can continue together without some serious changes. © Soobum Im-Imagn Images PJ Tucker weighs in on the Knicks' dysfunction Elsewhere in The Athletic's breakdown, PJ Tucker commented on the Knicks' issues, noting that communication between teammates is key to executing a successful offense and defense. Advertisement 'They all talk to me. But they didn't talk to each other in real-time, in those situations,' Tucker told The Athletic. 'The situations to get stops, to have help, you know what I'm saying? That, to me, we have talent, but that's 80 percent of everything else – being able to communicate, be able to get stops, to be on the same page on offense, and be able to read each other. We needed to do those things instead of putting our hands up and looking at each other. It's changed. Do I think it needs to get better? One hundred percent. But it's come a long way since I've got here, for sure.' While these comments might not have read as an indictment on KAT's play at the time, there's a reason why Edwards III and Katz included it during their story immediately after commenting on his lack of defensive effort. If the Knicks are going to blast past the Eastern Conference Finals and return to the NBA Finals for the first time this century, it will need to be addressed one way or another.
