Police execute search warrant at Bradford home after reports of youths with a firearm
Police are warning the public about the serious consequences of carrying and misusing replica firearms following an incident this week that resulted in a search warrant being carried out in a Bradford neighbourhood. South Simcoe police say they received a report about two youths in possession of a firearm on Monday. The situation led to a search warrant being issued and officers, plus the K9 unit, showing up at a home on Carter Street the following morning. Officers recovered a realistic replica handgun during the search and have since worked to educate the family and those directly involved about the seriousness of incidents involving imitation weapons. 'Due to the nature of this incident involving minors, no further information will be released,' the police service noted in a Wednesday release. Police say reports about firearms are taken very seriously and are treated with urgency due to the potential risk they pose. 'Even when a firearm is not real, its appearance can lead to significant public concern and a heightened police response. Replica firearms can be easily mistaken for real weapons, especially in public settings, posing a serious risk and potentially dangerous, and life-threatening consequences,' South Simcoe police stated. Following this incident, the service is urging parents and guardians to teach their kids about the risks of carrying replica firearms.

Air One ride raises funds for Onondaga Sheriff's Office
ELBRIDGE, N.Y. (WSYR-TV) — For the fourth year in a row, Hades Hounds hosted the Air One ride for the Onondaga County Sheriff's Department. The department needs a new helicopter and funding for its K-9 unit. The community came together to support those who risk their lives every day financially. Kurt Sorensen, the founder of Hades Hounds, said the event is about giving back to the department and showcasing what they specialize in. 'We have a lot of support for the aircraft,' Pilot Chief Sgt. James Farley, said. 'It's nice to meet the people that support us, and we enjoy coming out and seeing the public.' Fundraisers help the sheriff's office upgrade their essential transportation that is 26-years-old. 'What was your cell phone like in 1998?' Sheriff Tobias Shelley said. 'That's our technology inside the helicopter, and that's the main reason why it's important to push our aviation program in the future, and we're able to do that with the help of the Hades Hounds.' This year's ride will benefit the K-9, as well. 'There is some money through the federal government for explosives dogs, but there's nothing for drug dogs, and a lot of it is raised through foundations like this,' Sgt. Jeffrey Neal said. Sgt. Neal has been with the K-9 unit since 2008. He said the dogs, which cost nearly $10,000, are essential to the force. 'We basically use them for their noses,' he said. 'So, we use them for the drug work, explosives, to find handguns, to track lost/missing persons…wanted persons, and obviously we use them for a show of force, as well.' Last year, the organization raised over $10,000 for the first responders. This year, Sorensen said they hope to double that number. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved. Hijacking of meat delivery truck ends with arrested suspects facing the heat
A group of thieves planning to profit from hijacking a meat delivery truck got cooked after a joint operation by SAPS units led to their arrest and the recovery of meat valued at almost R20,000. Police spokesperson Capt Andre Beetge said the truck was hijacked by five armed suspects on Friday at about 4.15pm along the R75 near Bayland, while en route to Despatch. 'The suspects forced the driver and two assistants into their vehicle and later abandoned them in Kwazakhele.' Beetge said by 5.20pm, SAPS K9 unit members located the hijacked truck abandoned and empty in Milner Avenue, Sydenham. In a co-ordinated operation involving the SAPS K9 unit, stock theft unit, provincial serious violent crime investigation unit, and crime intelligence, the subsequent investigations led to the arrests. 'On [Friday], premises in Hart Road, Sidwell, were searched, resulting in the discovery of two front quarters of stolen meat [estimated value R9,000]. 'A 30-year-old man was arrested for possession of stolen property. 'Five additional undocumented men [aged 25 to 37] were arrested at the scene and detained at SAPS Algoa Park.' The next morning, at about 8am, a tavern in Jijana Street, Wells Estate, was also searched. 'Two additional front quarters of meat [valued at R9,000] were recovered and confiscated, though no arrests were made. 'On Monday, at 3.30pm, SAPS K9 members confiscated a Nissan eight-tonne cooling truck and arrested a 25-year-old man at premises in Military Road, Central. 'The truck is linked to the hijacking and was allegedly used to transport stolen meat. This suspect faces charges under the original hijacking case.' He said the investigation was ongoing. The Herald
