Sachin Tendulkar reviews Sitaare Zameen Par, says Aamir Khan's film has the power to bring everyone together. Watch

Actor Aamir Khan would be feeling all kinds of nervous as he approaches the release of his film Sitaare Zameen Par. The film follows the story of a has-been basketball coach who must teach the game to a group of neurodivergent kids. To get some valuable insights, the actor invited his friend, the cricketing legend Sachin Tendulkar, to an early screening of the film. The 'god' of cricket gave the actor a much-needed breather as he complimented the film and the message it hopes to impart. Aamir had mentioned in a previous interview with Just Too Filmy that Sachin's wife, Anjali Tendulkar, had called him and asked whether he could arrange an early screening for the couple, as they will most likely be travelling on the day of release. Naturally Aamir made it happen, and the couple met with the entire cast of the film and watched the film. After viewing the film, Sachin shared his thoughts on the picture and lauded the makers and the actors of the film for the final product. The entire film and story make you laugh and cry with the entire team 'sitaare'. I have always said that sports have the power to teach us everything. There are so many messages that have the power of bringing people together, and those are the messages you get from the film. I would like to congratulate all the actors for a job well done and wish them the best of luck for the future.' Before Sachin, author and philanthropist Sudha Murthy also commented on the film and called it an 'eye-opening' story. She said, 'Many people don't understand such children whom we call 'not normal'. But this is a very beautiful movie where you understand that they are very sensitive and that they have a pure heart. They always smile, too, because they are so pure in their approach to life. These are great and deep philosophical lessons which we learn from these people (the characters in the film).' With stellar reviews from the likes of Tendulkar and Murthy, Aamir would definitely be feeling some much needed wind under those wings. After rejecting a Rs 120 crore OTT deal, and stating that the film will only be available in theatres, Aamir will be hoping that this gamble works. According to industry tracker Sacnilk, the movie has only managed Rs 4.48 crore in advance booking, including block seats. Directed by RS Prasanna, the film features Aamir Khan, Genelia Deshmukh, Aroush Datta, Gopi Krishnan Varma, Vedant Sharmaa, Naman Misra, Rishi Shahani, Rishabh Jain and Ashish Pendse, among others. The story has been penned by Divy Sidhi Sharma, and the film has been jointly produced by Aamir and Aparna Purohit. Housefull 5 Director Defends 'Sexist' Label: ‘My Lead Boys Are Showing Their But*s'

Last Updated: Tarun Mansukhani hit back at the backlash, arguing that flawed characters don't necessarily reflect the personal beliefs of the filmmaker. Tarun Mansukhani, director of the recently released Housefull 5, has addressed the growing criticism surrounding the film's allegedly sexist and objectifying portrayal of women. While the comedy has become a box office hit, crossing Rs 200 crore worldwide, several viewers and critics have raised concerns about its heavy use of sexual innuendos and the portrayal of female characters in revealing outfits. In an interview with Just Too Filmy, Mansukhani hit back at the backlash, arguing that flawed characters don't necessarily reflect the personal beliefs of the filmmaker. 'Every film, every frame of the character, is not the reflection of the director's life. The character is flawed, sure, but why can't he be flawed? Why can't he be misogynistic or sexist? That is who he is," he said. He further added that objectification isn't one-sided and pointed to the portrayal of male actors in the film. 'A lot of people have told me a lot of things about girls being objectified. Dino Morea is shirtless all the time. Nobody says anything. My three lead boys are showing their butt. Cheeky, isn't it? But nobody says anything. It is as you wish to see it, and it is fine. As long as you feel about it, sure," he noted. The director also expressed disappointment over the nature of film criticism today. Instead of critiquing technical aspects or storytelling techniques, he feels the discourse has become personal. 'I wish they would criticise technique, my storytelling. I wish they criticised other departments they are meant to criticise. Right now, it seems more critical opinions come on a personal basis. I have a problem with people who turn around and say, 'Oh, don't watch this film.' Our industry is already going through turbulent times, don't find ways to make it worse," he said. Housefull 5 features an ensemble cast including Akshay Kumar, Riteish Deshmukh, Abhishek Bachchan, Fardeen Khan, Nana Patekar, Jackie Shroff, Ranjeet, Johny Lever, Jacqueline Fernandez, Nargis Fakhri, Chunky Panday, Dino Morea, Sonam Bajwa, and Soundarya Sharma. The film, set on a cruise and involving a whodunit murder mystery, has been embraced by audiences despite its polarising content. First Published:

Housefull 5 director Tarun Mansukhani breaks silence on his long hiatus, blames 'expensive divorce' from Karuna

Tarun Mansukhani was one of the most sought-after directors after the success of his directorial debut, Dostana (2008). However, he took a long break to return to the movies—his second movie, released in 2019, Drive, starring the late Sushant Singh Rajput and Jacqueline Fernandez. And after 6 years of Drive, he directed Akshay Kumar's latest outing, Housefull 5. In a recent conversation with Just Too Filmy, the filmmaker broke his silence and revealed the reason behind his long hiatus from filmmaking. Tarun Mansukhani attributes his 'expensive' divorce to his long break after Dostana The Housefull 5 director mentioned that he was not in the right state to direct any movie, as he was going through a tough time due to his 'unpleasant' and 'expensive' divorce. He admitted that Dostana's super success had opened many opportunities for him, but he couldn't capitalize on them due to the mental toll he was dealing with. Tarun Mansukhani said, "A lot happened in life. I went through a divorce. It wasn't a pleasant one. It was an expensive one for me, and life just took its own turns. I was not in a bandwidth or headspace to make a film. What I knew about that point in time is that I am in debt, and I don't need to sort that out. I didn't want to make a film, I'll make money or get paid for it. The moment I do that, it is tainted by that because I am making a film in fear. I am not going to be fun on that set either." For the uninitiated, the filmmaker parted ways with his ex-wife, Karuna, in 2014 after nine years of marriage. Reports suggest that the couple were facing issues since 2011. Though family and friends tried their hardest to mend ways between the two, things could never be reconciled. Tarun and Karuna have been living apart since 2012. Mansukhani's latest directorial, Housefull 5, stars an ensemble cast that includes Akshay Kumar, Riteish Deshmukh, Abhishek Bachchan, Jacqueline Fernandez, Nargis Fakhri, Chitrangda Singh, Soundarya Sharma, Jackie Shroff, Sanjay Dutt, Shreyas Talpade, Fardeen Khan, Dino Morea, Johny Lever, Ranjit, and Nana Patekar. Furthermore, Housefull 5 has already smashed Rs 220 crore gross at the worldwide box office, becoming the 6th highest-grossing movie of Akshay Kumar's career. Stay tuned to Pinkvilla for more.

Tarun Mansukhani reacts to criticism for objectifying women in Housefull 5: 'My three lead boys are showing their butts'

Housefull 5 has been a commercial success at the box office but has also faced significant criticism for its portrayal of women. Viewers and critics have accused the film of objectifying female characters through overt sexual innuendos and revealing clothes. However, director Tarun Mansukhani has come out in the film's defence in a new interview. (Also read: Housefull 5 director Tarun Mansukhani says he took long break from movies due to 'expensive, unpleasant' divorce) In an interaction with Just Too Filmy, Tarun asserted that characters can be sexist and misogynistic, and that does not reflect his real-life beliefs. "Every film, every frame of the character, is not the reflection of the director's life. The character is flawed, sure, but why can't he be flawed? Why can't he be misogynistic or sexist? That is who he is. A lot of people have told me a lot of things about girls being objectified. Dino Morea is shirtless all the time. Nobody says anything. My three lead boys are showing their butt. Cheeky, isn't it? But nobody says anything. It is as you wish to see it, and it is fine. As long as you feel about it, sure." Regarding critics' criticism of the movie, the director said that it would have been better if they had discussed his technique or his style of telling a story. "I wish they would criticise technique, my storytelling. I wish they criticised other departments they are meant to criticise. Right now, it seems more critical opinions come on a personal basis. I have a problem with people who turn around and say, 'Oh, don't watch this film'. Our industry is already going through turbulent times, don't find ways to make it worse," Tarun added. Housefull 5, starring Akshay Kumar, Riteish Deshmukh, and Abhishek Bachchan, is a comedy whodunit about a murder on a cruise. The film has already crossed the ₹200 crore mark worldwide. It also stars Fardeen Khan, Nana Patekar, Jackie Shroff, Ranjeet, Johny Lever, Jacqueline Fernandez, Nargis Fakhri, Chunky Panday, Dino Morea, Sonam Bajwa, and Soundarya Sharma.
