Gig economy workers overlooked

Published on: Thu, Jun 19, 2025 Text Size: PENAMPANG: The Gig Workers Engagement Programme is part of the Madani Government's ongoing effort to ensure the welfare of the people, especially those in the gig economy, is not overlooked. According to Sabah Information Department (JaPen) Senior Assistant Director Peter Tong Ah Pin, the programme, held in collaboration with the State Development Office (ICU JPM), provided a casual, face-to-face platform for gig workers to engage directly with Federal agencies.
Advertisement A total of 33 e-hailing gig workers attended the session on Tuesday, where they were briefed on the I-Saraan contribution scheme by the Employees Provident Fund (EPF) and the Penjana Gig Programme by the Social Security Organisation (Perkeso). A dialogue was also held with the Royal Malaysian Police (PDRM) and the National Security Council (MKN) focusing on social safety for gig workers.
