AI 171 crash: JDA thanks UAE-based doctor for financial aid
Ahmedabad: The Junior Doctors' Association (JDA) at BJ Medical College wrote a letter to Dr Shamsheer Vayalil, founder and chairman of Burjeel Holdings, for his "generous and compassionate act of providing financial aid to victims of the recent tragic plane crash". Dr Vayalil has offered Rs 1 crore for each of the four deceased students' families, Rs 20 lakh each for five seriously injured students and for the families of doctors who lost their loved ones. "Your timely support during this hour of distress has brought solace and hope to the families affected by this unfortunate incident. Such a noble gesture reflects not only your humanitarian spirit but also serves as an inspiring example of global solidarity and empathy," read the letter shared by JDA on its social media platforms on Thursday. The UAE-based doctor-turned-businessman announced aid of Rs 6 crore to families of medical students and doctors affected by the crash in Ahmedabad. He told the media that the images of the crash struck a chord with him "as someone who lived in similar hostels during his medical education at Kasturba Medical College in Mangalore and Sri Ramachandra Medical College in Chennai". "I saw the footage from the mess and the hostel, and it truly shook me. It reminded me of the places I once called home, the corridors, the beds, the laughter, the pressure of exams and the anticipation of a call from family," he told the media. "Those students started the day thinking about lectures, assignments and patients. Their lives ended in a way none of us could ever imagine. It hit close. Too close." Earlier too, Dr Vayalil has announced humanitarian aid earlier after natural and manmade disasters.

No clarity yet on identity of 18 Air India crash victims
AHMEDABAD: Days after the horrific AI-171 air crash here, there is still no clear word on the toll and identity of the deceased. While the ill-fated Air India plane had 242 on board, one passenger survived the crash into the campus of the BJ Medical College and Civil Hospital in Ahmedabad. On Saturday, the president of the Junior Doctors' Association of the college, Dr Dhaval Gameti, said 270 bodies had been received at the Civil Hospital. However, 272 DNA samples have been collected so far. That figure includes 13 others — nine local residents and four medical students. Who were the 18 other victims (272 - [241 + 13])? There is no clarity.

Four MBBS students, four relatives of doctors died in crash: JDA
Ahmedabad: The Junior Doctors' Association (JDA) on Saturday issued a statement clarifying that four MBBS students and four relatives of doctors succumbed in the airplane crash incident. The statement added that 20 students were injured in the incident, out of which 11 were discharged in stable condition. "In reference to the recent plane crash incident, JDA-BJMC clarifies that a total of four MBBS students from BJ Medical College, who were having lunch in the mess building, sadly passed away. Out of the 20 MBBS students injured in the accident, 11 were discharged in stable condition. Among the family members of superspecialty doctors residing in Atulyam building, four tragically died. Additionally, the wife of one resident from the super speciality department was injured and is currently under treatment. The condition of all admitted patients is stable, and they are recovering quickly," read the note. "In these challenging times, some individuals are spreading rumours suggesting a high death toll among medical college students and resident doctors. 270 bodies brought to Ahmedabad Civil Hospital after plane crash: Doctors
A total of 270 bodies of the victims of the Air India plane crash have been brought to the Ahmedabad Civil Hospital so far, its doctors said on Saturday. The authorities had earlier pegged the death toll at 265. In the last 24 hours, the city fire brigade has recovered one body as well as some body parts from the plane crash site, officials said. "Around 270 bodies have been brought to the civil hospital so far from the plane crash site," President of Junior Doctors' Association of BJ Medical College, Dr Dhaval Gameti, told PTI. The process of identification of victims by matching the DNA samples is currently underway, and the bodies will be handed over to their relatives once the process is complete. The Ahmedabad Fire and Emergency Service (AFES) has recovered some human body parts as well as a corpse in the last 24 hours from the plane crash site in the Meghaninagar area. The Boeing 787 Dreamliner (AI 171) flight with 242 passengers and crew members on board crashed into a medical hostel and its canteen complex in Meghaninagar moments after taking off from the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport on Thursday afternoon. Additional Chief Fire Officer Jayesh Khadia said, "Our firemen, who are helping forensic and aviation experts in their investigation at the crash site, found some body parts from the canteen's rubble on Friday, while a body was found today morning." He said that since the tail fin of the aircraft was stuck on top of the canteen's damaged building, cranes have been roped in to bring it down. "We will start the work of removing the tail fin from the building and bring it down to the ground once Air India officials arrive at the site," Khadia said. After the crash, senior police officials had informed the media that at least 265 people were killed in the crash, which included passengers and other victims on the ground.
