KANOWIT (June 19): An uncle and his nephew were arrested by police after allegedly assaulting a vegetable vendor at the Kanowit Market yesterday, following a dispute reportedly sparked by a missing fishing hook. Kanowit district police chief DSP Junical Ujal said the incident occurred around 10am when the 35-year-old victim confronted one of the suspects, suspecting him of taking the fishing hook. 'A verbal argument ensued before both suspects allegedly assaulted the victim using their hands and a motorcycle helmet, causing swelling to the back of the victim's head and minor injuries to his right hand,' he said in a statement today. The victim later lodged a police report and sought initial treatment at Kanowit Hospital. 'A team from the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of Kanowit police headquarters has arrested both suspects. The helmet used in the incident has also been seized as case evidence,' he said. Junical said investigations revealed that the incident took place at the vegetable traders' area of the Kanowit Market, and that the suspects aged 18, and 57, are both from Sungai Lukut. 'The case is being investigated under Section 324 of the Penal Code for voluntarily causing hurt with a weapon. Police will apply for a remand order against the suspects today,' he added.
