Israel Adesanya ‘not a real fighter', says Joaquin Buckley after detailing run-in with UFC star

Joaquin Buckley has accused Israel Adesanya of not being a 'real fighter', after the UFC stars offered their respective accounts on a run-in between them. After Buckley suffered a one-sided decision loss to Kamaru Usman on Saturday (14 June), the latter's friend Adesanya hit out at Buckley, saying on his YouTube channel: 'I hate [him], bro. I don't even use the word 'hate' lightly, but I hate [him], bro. 'Something about him just f*****g annoys me. The coolest thing about him is that kick [Buckley's 2020 knockout of Impa Kasanganay]. I respect that.' Then, describing a moment in which he met Buckley at the UFC Performance Institute, the former two-time middleweight champion said: 'Literally, I'm just trying to chill, talk. [He says:] 'Hey, man, we've gotta get this going, duh duh duh duh duh duh,' like he's rapping. 'Every single time. He's just so f*****g annoying. At one point, I literally walked away while he was talking... and I think he didn't like that, so he went against me since then. But f*** the dude. Maybe I'm a hater, bro, maybe I'm just a hater.' Welterweight Buckley then used his own YouTube channel to fire back at Adesanya, saying on Thursday (19 June): 'He knows what it is to take an L, but to say that you hate a motherf***** and you're glad that they lost, you're glad that they didn't achieve their dreams is wild to me, bro. 'Like, bro, why the f*** you mad at me? What the f*** did I do to you? I kind of find it funny that you're hating on me, you need to be hating on the motherf****** that took your belt. 'He's trying to be funny, he's trying to use his platform to talk s*** on me, but that really just shows me the potential of my name, and how big I'm becoming. Just like when I met his ass at the [Performance Institute], and I ran up on him and was like, 'Hey, bro, I think we'd be a good-ass fight, [Adesanya] was quiet at the time. 'But see, I'm man enough to come up to your face. Tell me how you feel to my face, bro [...] You're all underneath the covers like: 'Man, I hate that [guy].' You ain't no real fighter. You want to be a little pretty boy.' American Buckley, 31, appeared to be closing in on a welterweight title shot before his loss to Usman, a former champion in the division. Meanwhile, Adesanya, 35, finds himself in the unusual position of riding a three-fight losing streak. After regaining the middleweight title from old rival Alex Pereira in April 2023, the 'Last Stylebender' lost the belt to Sean Strickland that September. Then, last August, Adesanya suffered a submission loss to Strickland's successor Dricus Du Plessis. The Nigerian-born New Zealander attempted to bounce back against Nassourdine Imavov in February, but he was stopped in round two. Adesanya's first reign with the belt lasted three years and featured five successful title defences, with those same numbers applying to Usman's welterweight title run. After surviving a difficult fifth round to outpoint Buckley, Usman, who had employed his trademark wrestling impressively in the first four frames, held back tears in the cage. 'It's been a while,' he said. 'I needed to get that monkey off my back. I know I'm still able to do this at the highest level. Sometimes when you're going up against a young, hungry guy like that – very talented, very aggressive – you've got to pull out the skills and use the experience. 'Before I go, I just wanted to say that I have a lot of emotions coming into this one [...] a lot of things that I had to battle back from. I'm holding back all the emotions. Unfortunately, my daughter can't be here with me tonight. That's another long story. But man, I just want to say thank you to everybody – thank you to my family, my coaches who kept me going, Buckley for bringing the challenge.'

Don't Miss This Weekend's Sky Show — The Moon, Venus And A Star Cluster

Early risers on Sunday, June 22, are in for a pre-dawn treat — a triangular arrangement of the waning crescent moon flanked by Venus and the Pleiades star cluster. The three most beautiful naked-eye sights to be had in the night sky will create a stunning panorama just before sunrise. Here's everything you need to know about when and where to see them. To catch this display, head outside about an hour before sunrise and look east. Venus, unmistakably bright at magnitude -4.2, will be shining beneath a 13%-lit waning crescent moon (over 30 times brighter than Venus). To the left of the pair will be the Pleiades (also known as the Seven Sisters and Messier 45), one of the closest open clusters of stars to the solar system. Aside from the brilliance of Venus and the dazzling twinkling stars of the Pleiades, look carefully at the moon's darkened portion — its night side. Despite there being no direct sunlight upon it, it is faintly illuminated. That's Earthshine or planet-shine, sunlight reflected from Earth's oceans and clouds onto the moon. It will create a softly lit lunar disk above Venus — a beautiful sight! The entire spectacle is, of course, a line-of-sight illusion — all three objects extremely far from each other. The moon is about 238,000 miles from Earth, Venus about 150 times farther and the Pleiades around 444 light-years away. Forget all about a telescope. It's what everyone immediately thinks of when they think about astronomy, and it's very often completely irrelevant. You just need naked eyes for this sky event, though a pair of binoculars will enhance the view, especially if you want to appreciate the cluster of stars in the Pleiades and get a close-up of Earthshine on the moon. More important is an observing location with a clear, unobstructed view to the eastern or western horizon, if possible away from city lights — though light pollution makes zero difference to the planets and the moon. If you're up for another early outing, Monday, June 23, will see an even slimmer waning crescent moon closer to the Pleiades — just half a degree away — with Venus remaining nearby. For exact timings, use a sunrise and sunset calculator for where you are, Stellarium Web for a sky chart and Night Sky Tonight: Visible Planets at Your Location for positions and rise/set times for planets. Wishing you clear skies and wide eyes.

Widow fined more than £1,000 by parking wardens after council fails to renew Blu

A widow said she has been fined more than £1,000 in parking charges after her local council did not renew her Blue Badge before the deadline. June Olley, 90, from Wapping, has been caught in a six months-long 'limbo' after being hit with dozens of parking fines due to a 'backlog' at Tower Hamlets council. She first applied to renew her Blue Badge in November – three months before it expired – after being warned by Tower Hamlets there was an up to 12 week wait to receive a new badge. But despite lodging the new application seven months ago, she has still not received it and has spent months chasing for an update. A council spokesperson told Metro they first wrote to her in March, and followed up three weeks ago, asking to show evidence of her disability to allow them to renew her badge. But June said she has received no letters to her address, which has a 24-hour porter. When she asked her doctor to write a letter to confirm her disability, she was told the council has to request a form from the doctor. June told Metro: 'It is absolutely devastating. I'm sick to death that they don't respond, they don't give any clues. It is stressful, it is not nice to get these letters about the fines I've received. 'I don't set out to get a fine, but it happens. Almost once a week.' June, who has lived in St Katharine's Docks for almost 40 years and was born nearby, relies on her car to leave the house as she becomes out of breath when walking. She said her car is a lifeline for her as she uses it to visit her children and to get to her meditation classes, which she teaches weekly in Hertfordshire, and drives her neighbours in her block to their medical appointments. As she 'can't do anything online because I don't have the facility or ability,' her lodger, a Ukrainian refugee, sent the renewal application in November on her behalf. June told Metro: 'I didn't think more of it until mid-January, until I realised I hadn't heard back.' Despite leaving messages on several council numbers, she says she didn't hear back. 'Then end of January came, and I started getting more anxious and chased even more,' she said. She said she visited the Town Hall in Whitechapel in January for advice, where she was told by staff to send a prompt, and then in February she received a call saying that it would be resolved in 10 days, but never heard back. For the past six months, June has been using her car as normal, with the expired Blue Badge glued to her window with a handwritten note explaining her situation, but it has been largely ignored by traffic wardens. 'Occasionally, you get a warden who turns a blind eye, but often they give you a ticket,' she said. 'I end up paying, because I cannot just be stuck in my flat.' In the end, her son ended up submitting a new application after June 'moaned about it to everybody,' but she is still waiting to hear back. June said she is lucky for being able to afford the fines, meaning she hasn't had to deal with bailiffs, but she feels 'indignant' for anyone else less fortunate caught in a similar situation. She added: 'There's a lot of pressure and advertising for elderly people living alone, as I am, to make sure that you socialise as much as possible and that you take exercise. 'I joined the local gym, where there's a superb guy who does a small class for elderly people, and I go twice a week. There's a community coffee morning I go to in the mornings. 'I really have worked on doing all the right things. I have quite a good social life, I go to the theatre and I have good friends. 'But everything I do requires my car, because I can't really go anywhere except by my car.' A spokesperson from Tower Hamlets Council said: 'We are sorry to hear about Ms Olley's experience and understand how important a valid Blue Badge is for her independence and wellbeing. 'To process a Blue Badge renewal, applicants must provide the necessary supporting documentation to confirm their continued eligibility. In Ms Olley's case, we sent letters on March 4 and June 12, 2025, advising that no evidence had been received and clearly outlining the steps required to proceed. More Trending 'As this documentation is essential for assessment, and the Department for Transport system does not allow applications to be placed on hold, we were unable to progress the application. These requirements are outlined on the council's website in line with national guidance. 'We can also confirm that the council does not currently charge a fee for new or renewal Blue Badge applications. If Ms Olley made a payment, this may relate to a separate service or concession, and we would be happy to look into this further with her. 'We are committed to improving the Blue Badge application process and have recently introduced a new case management system to help deliver a more efficient and responsive service. 'A senior officer is now reviewing Ms Olley's most recent application and a member of our team will be contacting her directly to offer support and resolve any outstanding matters.' Astrologer reveals what the summer solstice means for your star sign - and there's a crucial message for Cancers

As the summer solstice dawns, the longest day of the year is set to give way to one of the most powerful spiritual opportunities, say astrologers. The summer solstice takes place in the UK on 21 June and carries the most daylight hours of any other in the year, making in the longest day and shortest night in the calendar. Spiritually speaking, this can mean big things for people's star signs, with the summer solstice holding immense energetic potential. Spiritual medium Tracy Higgs told MailOnline it is a 'powerful time of illumination, clarity, and renewal'. 'The solstice invites us to awaken to our purpose and realign with the light within. It's a sacred portal of growth,' she added. While Sagittarius signs will experience themes of rebirth and intimacy that awaken passion and power, Leos should pause to reflect, reconnect, and focus on resting over revival. Meanwhile, those born under the sign of cancer, due to celebrate their birthdays, are currently experiencing a cycle of personal growth, meaning they must shed old skin to renew. Aries on the other hand, are being 'nudged to focus inward' and should stick to clearing away stagnant energy to 'invite peace'. According to the medium, the solstice acts as a reminder from the universe that we are 'light'. 'We are part of the great turning wheel of life, always evolving, always growing. Wherever your sign sits in the sky, let this sacred shift bring you back to centre.' On the longest day of the year, she encouraged all signs to light a candle at sunrise or sunset and to ask spirit guide to follow them into the 'next season with clarity, courage, and compassion'. Aries (21 March – 19 April) Theme: Self-leadership and Home Awakening Higgs said: 'The solstice lights up your fourth house of home and emotional foundations. You're being nudged to focus inward—on your roots, your sanctuary, and your soul's safe space.' The astrologer said it is 'a powerful time to clear your home of stagnant energy and invite in peace.' Solstice Soul Prompt: What does emotional safety truly feel like to me? Taurus (20 April – 20 May) Theme: Voice, Vision & Vibrations 'Communication is your theme, dear Taurus,' Higgs said. 'This solstice highlights your third house—it's time to speak your truth, write from your heart, and be heard. Spirit may send signs through conversations and synchronicities.' Solstice Soul Prompt: Where am I holding back my voice—and why? Gemini (21 May – 20 June) Theme: Sacred Self-Worth For Gemini, the solstice will shift attention towards values of self-worth. 'It's not just about money—it's about knowing what you truly deserve,' the spiritualist said. She urged Geminis to align 'energy with abundance', adding that they 'may be called to review how to invest time, energy, and love.' Solstice Soul Prompt: What do I need to release to receive more? Cancer (21 June – 22 July) Theme: Rebirth and Radiance 'This solstice is your solar return, Cancer,' Higgs pointed out. 'You're stepping into a new cycle of personal growth. Shed the old skin of who you've been, and stand tall in the light of who you're becoming.' With it being Cancer's birthday, their 'intuitive power is especially strong now,' according to the medium. Solstice Soul Prompt: What new version of me is being born? Leo (23 July – 22 August) Theme: Surrender and Spiritual Insight 'Your twelfth house is lit up, Leo, asking you to pause, reflect, and reconnect with your higher self,' Higgs said. 'This solstice isn't about action—it's about soul whispers, healing sleep, and deep reflection. The spirit world may be calling.' Solstice Soul Prompt: Where do I need to rest, not rush? Virgo (23 August – 22 September) Theme: Visionary Community and Purpose 'The solstice activates your eleventh house of dreams and soul tribes.' The spiritualist encouraged Virgos to ask questions this summer solstice. 'Who lifts you? Who drains you? Tune in,' she said, adding that it was a 'potent time to set intentions' for the future and align with kindred spirits. Solstice Soul Prompt: What vision am I ready to commit to? Libra (23 September – 22 October) Theme: Soulful Ambition and Recognition 'Your tenth house of career and soul mission is illuminated,' the spiritualist said. 'The solstice gives you a golden spotlight—don't shy away.' She implored Libras to 'step into' their power and that 'ecognition or leadership may be on the horizon.' Solstice Soul Prompt: Am I honouring the full scale of my potential? Scorpio (23 October – 21 November) Theme: Expansion and Soul Education The solstice for Scorpio is 'about wisdom, learning, and stepping into new territory', according to Higgs. 'Whether through travel, spiritual studies, or visionary thinking—you're being asked to expand your horizons. Solstice Soul Prompt: What truth am I being guided to explore? Sagittarius (22 November – 21 December) Theme: Depth, Desire & Transformation 'The solstice stirs your eighth house—death, rebirth, intimacy, and deep soul healing,' said Higgs. Sagittarius shouldn't be 'afraid to dive in', since the solstice offers a 'sacred time to release what's been buried and awaken passion and power.' Solstice Soul Prompt: What am I ready to transform—once and for all? Capricorn (22 December – 19 January) Theme: Soul Contracts and Sacred Mirrors It's all about relationships for Capricorn, with partnerships at the forefront of their future. The solstice will 'bring clarity' to partnerships of all kind, including 'romantic, business, or spiritual.' 'Are they nourishing your soul or draining your energy?' the medium encouraged Capricorn's to ask. 'You're being asked to find balance and integrity.' Solstice Soul Prompt: What relationships truly align with who I am becoming? Aquarius (20 January – 18 February) Theme: Sacred Routine and Embodied Energy For Aquarius, themes of 'healing' and spiritual service' are highlighted. 'What do your daily habits say about your self-love? The solstice invites you to honour your body as a temple and fine-tune your energy field.' Solstice Soul Prompt: What rhythms of life truly serve me now? Pisces (19 February – 20 March) Theme: Joy, Creativity & Inner Child Healing The solstice is about 'joy' for Pisces, with 'play and pleasure' both being illuminated. 'Creativity flows in, and your inner child calls for attention. Honour what makes your spirit sing,' Higgs said.
