The Los Angeles Angels beat the New York Yankees on Monday and Tuesday, but it was no thanks to outfielder Jorge Soler. The 33-year-old is just 1-for-9 in the series and is slashing .119/.196/.119 with three RBI over 13 games in June. The Angels won Monday and Tuesday's games by a combined score of 5-0, and they're 6-4 in their last 10. They're now a half-game behind the Texas Rangers for third place in the AL West and two games out of a Wild Card spot. Los Angeles will play New York again on Thursday before hosting the Houston Astros, Boston Red Sox, and Washington Nationals. After that, it will hit the road to face the Atlanta Braves and Toronto Blue Jays before hosting the Rangers and Arizona Diamondbacks. Angels manager Ron Washington (health) out indefinitely

June 20 - Los Angeles Angels manager Ron Washington will not manage the team for an indefinite period due to a health concern, general manager Perry Minasian told reporters on Friday. The nature of Washington's health ailment is undisclosed. Bench coach Ray Montgomery will serve as interim manager, beginning with Friday night's home game against the Houston Astros. Montgomery, 55, is in his fourth season on the Angels' coaching staff. Washington, 73, is expected to watch Friday night's game from a suite inside Angel Stadium. Washington is in his second season with the Angels and has a 99-137 record with the team. Los Angeles is 36-38 this season. Overall, Washington holds a 763-748 record in 10 seasons. He guided Texas (2007-14) to the World Series in 2010 and 2011 with the Rangers losing each time. The Angels also placed right fielder Jorge Soler (back) on the 10-day injured list, retroactive to Wednesday. The 33-year-old is batting .207 with eight homers and 26 RBIs in 67 games this season and has 199 career homers in 12 seasons. Los Angeles recalled outfielder Gustavo Campero from Triple-A Salt Lake in a corresponding move. He was batting .320 with two homers and 17 RBIs in 32 games with the Bees. Campero, 27, is batting .232 with one homer and six RBIs in 18 major league games over the past two seasons. --Field Level Media

"Jorge Soler was removed from today's game with groin tightness," the team wrote on X. Soler played for the Cuban national baseball team in the 2010 World Junior Baseball Championship before signing a nine-year, $30 million deal with the Chicago Cubs in June 2012. The club called him up in August 2014 and he was a part of its 2016 championship team. The latter team then dealt the journeyman to the Atlanta Braves at the 2021 trade deadline, and he won the World Series MVP award that postseason. The Braves beat the Houston Astros in six games. Atlanta then traded Soler to the San Francisco Giants in February 2024, who then sent him back to Atlanta that July. The Braves shipped him out to the Angels this past October. Angels' Ron Washington Announces Injury News After Guardians Game

Angels' Ron Washington Announces Injury News After Guardians Game originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The Los Angeles Angels snapped a four-game losing streak with a 4-1 victory over the Cleveland Guardians on Friday night at Progressive Field. Right-hander José Soriano delivered a stellar performance, pitching six scoreless innings while allowing only four hits and striking out two batters. Advertisement Jo Adell contributed significantly on offense, going 3-for-4 with an RBI, while Jorge Soler added a solo home run in the ninth inning. The Angels' offense was efficient, with eight of the nine starters recording at least one hit, showcasing a balanced attack that had been missing during their recent skid. The highlight of the evening was the return of three-time AL MVP Mike Trout, who had been sidelined since April 30 due to a bone bruise on his surgically repaired left knee. Los Angeles Angels right fielder Mike Trout (27).Kiyoshi Mio-Imagn Images Batting fifth as the designated hitter, Trout went 1-for-5, recording a single in the fourth inning. Trout's return is particularly significant given his history of knee issues, including two surgeries in 2024 to repair a torn meniscus. Advertisement However, the victory was tempered by concerning news regarding reliever Robert Stephenson. In just his second appearance since returning from Tommy John surgery, Stephenson exited the game after throwing only three pitches due to right biceps discomfort (via Angels PR). There was initial concern the injury could be related to his surgically repaired elbow, but Angels manager Ron Washington announced a positive update after the game. "Ron Washington said he thinks Stephenson is going to be fine," Jeff Fletcher of the OC Register wrote. "Just day to day, he says. We are waiting to talk to Stephenson." Advertisement Fletcher added, "Stephenson said he was checked by a doctor and he did some quick tests. He's encouraged that's it right in the middle of the bicep (not by his elbow). He said he is planning to try to throw tomorrow and go from there." The Angels had high hopes for Stephenson's return to bolster the bullpen. The team will monitor his condition closely as they return to action against the Guardians on Saturday, hoping to clinch the series. Soriano tosses 6 scoreless innings as Angels beat Guardians 4-1 in Trout's return

José Soriano threw six scoreless innings, Mike Trout had a hit in his return to the Angels' lineup and Los Angeles beat the Cleveland Guardians 4-1 on Friday night. Jo Adell had three hits and an RBI and Jorge Soler hit a solo homer down the left-field line in the ninth inning as the Angels snapped a five-game losing streak. Cleveland's José Ramírez had his 21-game hitting streak snapped. He drew a walk in the eighth inning to extend his on-base streak to 26 games. The Guardians, who have dropped four of their last five, avoided a shutout on Nolan Jones' RBI single to right with two outs in the ninth. It was the third time this season Soriano (4-5) has gone at least six innings and not allowed a run. The right-hander allowed only four hits with two strikeouts and four walks. Trout, activated off the injured list after he missed 26 games due to a bone bruise on his left knee, lined out to Ramírez at third in his first at-bat before he lined a base hit to left-center in the fourth inning. Adell singled to right with one out in the second to drive in Soler, who drew a walk off Luis Ortiz (2-6) to lead off the inning. The Halos added a pair of runs in the seventh when Scott Kingery scored on a passed ball and Soler had a run-scoring single to center. Key moment The Guardians had the bases loaded with two outs in the fourth inning, but Soriano got Gabriel Arias to chase a 98 mph sinker for the strikeout. Key stat Trout went 1 for 5 and batted fifth as the designated hitter. It was the first time since Sept. 26, 2011, the three-time American League MVP started a game hitting lower than third. Up next RHP Kyle Hendricks (2-6, 5.23 ERA) goes for the Angels while RHP Slade Cecconi (1-1, 3.27 ERA) takes the mound for the Guardians.
