Housefull 5 box office collection day 6: Akshay Kumar can finally breathe easy, film crosses Jolly LLB 2, Holiday, Sky Force
The negative reviews of Tarun Mansukhani's whodunit comedy Housefull 5 seems to be catching up with its box office performance now. Six days into release, the film's daily earnings finally dropped to single digits. However, that hasn't stopped the film from passing three more of lead actor Akshay Kumar's Rs 100 crore club movies. On Wednesday, Housefull 5 earned Rs 8 crore at the domestic box office, which was quite a drop from its Tuesday earnings of Rs 11.25 crore, a further dip from its Monday collection of Rs 13 crore. Over the opening weekend, Housefull 5 earned Rs 24 crore, Rs 31 crore, Rs 32.5 crore on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday respectively. As per Sacnilk, the current box office collection of Housefull 5 in India stands at Rs 119.75 crore. This has allowed it to cross the lifetime domestic earnings of three more Rs 100 crore grossers of Kumar — AR Murugadoss' 2014 action thriller Holiday – A Soldier Is Never Off Duty (Rs 112.45 crore), Abhishek Anil Kapur and Sandeep Kewlani's action film Sky Force (Rs 112.75 crore), which released earlier this year, along with Subhash Kapoor's 2017 courtroom comedy Jolly LLB 2 (Rs 117 crore). It had already surpassed other Rs 100 crore club members like Sajid Khan's 2012 comedy Housefull 2 (Rs 106 crore), Sajid-Farhad's 2016 comedy Housefull 3 (Rs 109.14 crore), and Reema Kagti's 2018 period sports drama Gold (Rs 104.72 crore). Its next target is Tinu Suresh Desai's 2016 crime thriller Rustom (Rs 127.49 crore), for which Kumar also won a National Award. Housefull 5 is Kumar's 18th film to enter the Rs 100 crore club. Besides the above mentioned films, others include Prabhu Deva's 2012 action comedy Rowdy Rathore (Rs 133.25 crore), Raja Krishna Menon's 2016 political thriller Airlift (Rs 128.1 crore), Shree Narayan Singh's 2017 romantic comedy Toilet – Ek Prem Katha (Rs 134.22 crore), S Shankar's 2018 Tamil sci-fi fantasy 2.0 (Rs 189.55 crore), Jagan Shakti's 2019 workplace drama Mission Mangal (Rs 202.98 crore), Farhad Samji's 2019 comedy Housefull 4 (Rs 194.60 crore), and Raj Mehta's 2019 romantic comedy Good Newwz (Rs 205.14 crore). Housefull 5 has also benefitted from the two versions — A and B — that it's released in. The endings and killers are different in each version of the whodunit comedy. The ensemble cast also helps the film as it consists of franchise regulars like Kumar, Abhishek Bachchan, Riteish Deshmukh, Johnny Lever, Shreyas Talpade, Jacqueline Fernandez, Chunky Panday, and Ranjit, along with new entrants like Dino Morea, Fardeen Khan, Chitrangda Singh, Sanjay Dutt, Jackie Shroff, Sonam Bajwa, Nargis Fakhri, Nana Patekar, and Soundarya Sharma among others. Also Read — Content creator accuses Remo D'Souza of copying his signature step for Housefull 5 song Laal Pari: 'I don't know what is happening' Housefull 5 is likely to continue to dominate the domestic box office given its next major competition comes only next week in the form of RS Prasanna's coming-of-age sports comedy Sitaare Zameen Par, headlined by Aamir Khan, which will release in cinemas next Friday on June 20. Meanwhile, Housefull 5 is produced by Sajid Nadiadwala, who has also written the story and screenplay.

Humour is a good indicator of how society has evolved: Saurabh Shukla
Saurabh Shukla. Pic: Samik Sen From reflecting on the decline of humour in Bollywood to sharing why he chose Kashmir as the backdrop for his play Barf, acclaimed actor and writer Saurabh Shukla was recently in town to attend a college event. In a candid chat, he offered deep insights into his craft, society, and his enduring bond with Kolkata. Excerpts: On humour disappearing in cinema You Can Also Check: Kolkata AQI | Weather in Kolkata | Bank Holidays in Kolkata | Public Holidays in Kolkata Shukla, known for his comic roles, offered a poignant observation about the state of humour in contemporary cinema , linking it directly to societal trends. 'Cinema mirrors society. When you find less and less humour in real life, you'll experience the same in cinema. And if you want to know why, you'll have to ask why it's happening in the real world, where people get easily offended now, make issues out of nothing, and are quick to anger. I feel humour is a good indicator of how society has evolved,' he said. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Upto 15% Discount for Salaried Individuals ICICI Pru Life Insurance Plan Get Quote Undo On the charm of Kashmir and his play Barf When asked why he chose Kashmir as the setting for his play Barf, Shukla said, 'The moment we hear about Kashmir, the politics and conflicts jump to mind, but my play has nothing to do with all that. In fact, one of the best compliments I received was from a Kashmiri after he heard the script: 'Sir ye Kashmir ki kahani hain; yeh aur kahin ki kahani nahi ho sakti hain'. Shukla added that the play was originally set in Maharashtra. 'But I felt something was amiss. Then I shot a film in Kashmir. It's truly beautiful – the people are very good looking, very soft spoken. But I felt a sort of fear – a sense of mistrust and seclusion – despite things being alright. I needed just that for the play,' he said. Beyond choice & towards detail Emphasising that the details an actor adds to a character makes all the difference, the Satya actor said, 'The idea is not to just do a role you like, but what details you add to the character to make it come alive. I feel joy when I can add colour to the roles I play.' Saurabh Shukla in a still from Jolly LLB 2. Cinema is a different medium altogether. Quite a few great thespians haven't made it big in cinema and vice versa. Actors are actors, but what makes the difference is the medium. Their success often hinges on their mastery of the specific demands of either the stage or the screen.' Don't try to look for a story that has never been told before, because you'll be disappointed to know there is no such story. Write what you want to tell; it need not stand out to make it big – On how to write a unique story Quotes: I feel joy when I can add colour to the roles I play Kolkata is not just a vibrant city but also home for me. I have many memories here – of the food and also the people. I shot two films here – Manohar Pandey & Calcutta Mail It's a perception that Gen Z doesn't have a long attention span, but I feel that isn't true. Sushil Pandey recalls working with Akshay Kumar, Arshad Warsi in 'Jolly LLB': 'Akshay came up behind me, hugged me tightly and then leaned in close to kiss me on the cheek'
Actor Sushil Pandey is all set for the release of his next film, 'Phule', co-starring Pratik Gandhi and Patralekha. As the Anant Mahadevan directorial was delayed, Sushil spoke to ETimes about how hurtful the recent legal tensions were. He also reminisced about his experiences working on ' Article 15 ' with Ayushmann Khurrana and the ' Jolly LLB ' franchise with Akshay Kumar and Arshad Warsi . Excerpts... How was it working with Arshad Warsi and Akshay Kumar in the Jolly LLB franchise? On the first day of my shoot of Jolly LLB, we began with my scene, and as soon as Arshad arrived on set, we clicked instantly during rehearsals. We spent that time chatting about our characters' emotions—what to do, what not to do—and I found him to be a true gentleman and incredibly funny. He could make me laugh in the most serious moments. I remember saying, 'Sir, don't make me laugh now—I have to cry in this scene!' And he replied, 'You get the headache; I don't!' Since then, I've been in part three too, and he's always been very kind. Akshay sir is equally warm. We bonded well on sets of Jolly LLB 2 and Jolly LLB 3. I have often felt that actors get typecast based on one role, which isn't a complaint but simply how casting works. Early in my career in Mumbai, I was offered many serious parts. Even when working with Arshad and Akshay sir, I was cast in serious roles. I'm now eagerly hoping for something lighter and more comedic—I want to laugh and do something bizarre! I'm keeping my fingers crossed. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Trade Bitcoin & Ethereum – No Wallet Needed! IC Markets Start Now Undo Can you share a particularly memorable compliment you've received? It was during the shooting of Jolly LLB 2. I had a long monologue—around four or five pages—during an interrogation scene in court. The camera was set, Akshay sir was opposite me, and the courtroom was buzzing with extras. I rehearsed once with Subhash (Kapoor) ji, just to get the lines out with no emotion, and he asked if we should rehearse with Akshay sir first. I said, 'Sir, if you're ready, let's roll for the take.' We did it in one go. Though much of the scene was cut, it was still a big moment. Shri Ramdas Athawale and Filmmaker Ananth Mahadevan Address Media for Film Phule After the take, Akshay sir came up behind me, hugged me tightly and for a long time, then leant in close and kissed me on the cheek. I was so moved—he asked 'how do you do this?' , 'Suddenly I got emotional. I said, sir, we do it with fear. We won't get another chance!' He hugged me again, then took me to Subhash ji and urged, 'Sir, cast him—give him more work; he's brilliant.' To have someone of Akshay Kumar's stature praise you like that is extraordinary. Similarly, Ayushmann Khurrana was wonderful to me in my first film, Article 15. During filming, I later discovered that he had recommended me for the role. I approached Anubhav sir for Article 15 without knowing I'd been put forward by Saurabh Shukla. It turned out Saurabh sir had told Anubhav sir, 'There's a boy I haven't met yet, but he's a fantastic actor—cast him.' That's how I landed the role. These moments—when senior actors or directors support you and appreciate your work—are priceless. They give you renewed energy to push your craft further. I cherish those memories always.
