'Thak ke bimar ho jate...', This actor once called Govinda 'pagal', made shocking revelations about his work schedule, his name is...
Govinda was a major superstar in the 1990s, and when it comes to comedy, no one could rival him. At the height of his career, it was said that any film he worked on was destined for success. He starred in numerous comedy films, many of which were directed by David Dhawan and Pahlaj Nihalani. Recently, a renowned comedian who collaborated frequently with Govinda shared his experiences of working with him. One of Bollywood's Finest Comedians Here we are talkig about Johnny Lever, who has made our childhoods memorable with his perfect comic timing and unforgettable characters. In an old interview with Wild Films India, Johnny Lever described his experience working with Govinda, stating that no one matches Govinda's comedic timing. He praised Govinda extensively, calling him an unparalleled actor in the realm of comedy. Johnny Lever remarked, 'Govinda jab kaam karte hai toh pagalon ki tarah karte hain. When he's on set, he pours his heart into his work. He becomes so engrossed in what he's doing that I often wonder where he finds all that energy. Comedy is inherently challenging, yet he would shoot 5-6 films a day, dedicating 2-3 hours to each one.' He went on to say that there was a time when Govinda could easily deliver comedy amidst a hectic schedule. Not only in comedy, but also in dance, he was exceptional. 'Aadmi beemar pad jata hai, thak jata hai, Uss beech main kabhi kabaar unke ghar jaya karta tha, kabhi unhein typhoid ho gaya hota, kabhi kuch. Yet, he would always rise, return to work, and shoot fight scenes as if nothing happened. He is genuinely a hardworking individual.' Johnny Lever expressed, 'I always enjoyed working with him. In my opinion, among all the actors who engage in comedy, Govinda's timing is the best. While Akshay Kumar has also significantly improved his comic timing in recent years, Govinda is on another level entirely.' Govinda's Breaks on Set When asked about his favorite collaborations with Govinda, Johnny Lever mentioned films like 'Deewana Mastana' and 'Joroo Ka Ghulam.' He recalled the exhausting shooting schedules, noting that Govinda would sometimes take breaks between shots to regain his energy.

According to the actor, he first purchased a duplex with three bedrooms and a hall on the first floor and one hall and three bedrooms. He revealed that he first bought the top floor for ₹20 lakh, and then the floor below for ₹4 crore. '20 times badh gaya price (The price increased 20 times)!' he quipped in the clip. He first lived in Dharavi and then moved from chawls to a duplex in Lokhandwala, where he had Sridevi as his neighbour. "Pehla ghar Dharavi mein tha, chawl thi. Uske baad slums mein aaye…jhopadpatti abhi bhi hai. Mera jhopda abhi bhi hai wahan. Kisi ki shaadi hai, function hai, log aate hain, hum jaate hain (The first house was in Dharavi, it was a chawl. The actor revealed that his favourite place in the house is the hall, where he spends most of his time doing his homework and watching movies and videos on various streaming channels. For the actor, the space is a treasure trove as everything is available here, along with a quote that holds a special meaning for him and means that 'a house is built with wisdom'. 'When I am very happy…I sit here,' he said. The actor stressed that he and his wife wanted their home to be simple, as they didn't want the feeling of a studio shoot in their safe space. 'Ghar toh ghar hona chahiye (A home should feel like home),' he explained.

‘Simple rakha hai sab kuch, ghar mein studio-shooting ka feel nahi chahiye': Inside Johnny Lever's sea-facing home in Mumbai
For decades, Johnny Lever has been the heartbeat of Indian comedy — a master of mimicry, physical comedy, and unscripted joy. But away from the stage and screen, his home reveals a quieter, more soulful version of the man who has made India laugh. Tucked into Mumbai's Lokhandwala, Johnny's duplex home is not about opulence, but emotion — a space built with intention, rooted in family, and rich in memory. 'Mera favourite jagah? Yeh hi hai actually… yeh hall,' he shares with a smile, seated comfortably in his living room. 'Yahan main aata hoon, mera homework karta hoon, main filmein dekhta hoon, videos dekhta hoon… ek khazana hai na, sab kuch milta hai yahan.' This hall isn't just a room — it's his sanctuary for watching films, rehearsing, and often simply sitting in stillness with his thoughts. The walls of the house are alive with stories — like the 1983 engagement photograph he points to, captured just after his father arranged his marriage. 'Mainne toh chehra bhi nahi dekha tha… bas shaadi ho gayi.' It's not said with regret, but with a rare kind of affection — his bond with his wife, who designed the house interiors herself, is visible in the care and simplicity of every corner. Their home is built on two levels — the upper one designed for their children, the lower one for larger gatherings. 'Simple rakha hai sab kuch… ghar mein studio-shooting ka feel nahi chahiye. Ghar toh ghar hona chahiye,' he explains. 'Hamari family bohot badi hai. Sab jab aate hain toh neeche bhi party hoti hai, upar bhi hoti hai. Prayers hoti hain, prayer meetings hoti hain.' Though now a celebrated star with a long list of accolades — including a Filmfare Award for 'Deewana Mastana', which he proudly displays — Johnny speaks with profound humility about his beginnings. 'Pehla ghar Dharavi mein tha, chawl thi. Uske baad slums mein aaye… jhopadpatti abhi bhi hai. Mera jhopda abhi bhi hai wahan.' He still visits. 'Kisi ki shaadi hai, function hai… log aate hain, hum jaate hain.' The journey from chawls to a Lokhandwala duplex was not just financial but deeply emotional. '1990 mein yeh ghar liya, duplex… teen bedroom hall, upar ek aur teen bedroom hall. Pehle upar wala flat 20 lakh mein liya tha… phir neeche wala 4 crore mein.' He laughs gently, '20 times badh gaya price!' Even his neighbours reflect his place in Bollywood's beating heart: 'Sridevi ji ka bhi yahan flat tha.' Every part of his home is touched by thought — a quote in the house that reads 'By wisdom a house is built…' holds special meaning for him. 'Buddhimatta se ghar banta hai, understanding se establish hota hai… aur knowledge se ghar bhara rehta hai.' Even in his 60s, Johnny's passion for performance remains unshaken. 'Roz practice karta hoon, roz. Chhe saat ghante baithta hoon… alag alag cheezen dekhta rehta hoon.' His hall, he says, becomes his dance rehearsal space when joy overflows. 'Main jab bohot khush hota hoon… toh yahin baithta hoon, dance practice karta hoon.' And when he needs a moment of reflection? He opens his balcony door. 'Lokhandwala ka pura nazara… Mudland bhi dikhai deta hai. Roz walk pe jaata hoon.'
