Production underway on Season 2 of "The Pitt"
The second season of "The Pitt," a popular Pittsburgh-set medical drama starring Noah Wyle, has started production. The streaming service Max confirmed that work is underway on Season 2, posting behind-the-scenes photos of Wyle on Instagram, writing "Paging Dr. Robby." The show, which stars Wyle as Dr. Michael "Robby" Robinavitch, has been lauded for its medical accuracy as well as its gripping real-time format, with 15 hour-long episodes covering a 15-hour ER shift. "This medical drama series offers a realistic look at the challenges healthcare workers face, as seen through the experiences of the frontline heroes at a Pittsburgh hospital," the description on Max reads. While most of the first season was filmed on a set in Burbank, California, that looked like Allegheny General Hospital, the show spent three days filming in Pittsburgh last September. The crew shot drone footage above the hospital and around the city, and some scenes were shot on the hospital's helipad. The show is expected to shoot some of the second season in Pittsburgh again, the Post-Gazette reports. "The Pitt" is produced by R. Scott Gemmill, John Wells and Michael Hissrich, all of whom have previously worked with Wyle on "ER." Wells and Hissrich are both Carnegie Mellon University graduates, giving the show even more of a Pittsburgh connection. The second season of "The Pitt" is slated for a January 2026 premiere, according to Variety. The current plan is for Season 2 to take place about ten months after the events of Season 1.

John Wells, 64, Who Fled New York for the Solitude of the Desert, Dies
Early in 2007, John Wells, a former fashion and catalog photographer, sold the farmhouse he'd renovated in Columbia County, N.Y., paid off his debts, canceled his credit cards and headed to the West Texas desert. There, he settled on a 40-acre plot near a ghost town called Terlingua, 30 miles from the Mexican border — a raw and rocky terrain of mesquite and desert juniper known locally as the Moonscape. There were no paved roads, no electricity and no water. Mr. Wells, who was then 48, chose the property because he could see no other dwellings. He was there to hash out life on his own terms, off the grid, to tame the rough environment to suit his own minimal needs, like a modern-day Thoreau. He called his new home the Southwest Texas Alternative Energy and Sustainable Living Field Laboratory, or the Field Lab for short, and began to chronicle his adventures on a blog. He noted the long days spent mixing concrete by hand to set the foundations for the wind turbines that supplied much of his power early on. And the pre-dawn morning that he encountered a scorpion on the seat of his composting toilet. (Happily, he had brought a flashlight with him.) And the pleasures of a long, hot shower, the water warmed by the sun. 'Do I stink now there is no one here to smell me?' he wrote. Want all of The Times? Subscribe.

Netflix fans are just finding out the US version of this hit UK show is so much better
If you're looking for a new show to watch - then this US version of a beloved UK show is on Netflix and fans can't keep to get enough... Netflix viewers are just finding out about this hit American show, which was inspired by an early 2000's Channel 4 show - and they can't get enough of it. Shameless UK was adapted by American producer John Wells, who brought to life a US version of the show. The show has been on Netflix since 2018 and has been a hit with viewers ever since. The UK edition of the show started in 2004 and ran for 11 series before ending in 2013. Although the US version started much later in 2011, running for the same amount of seasons before ending in 2021. If you haven't watched either the US or UK versions of Shameless, it tells the story of a poor, dysfunctional family who have Frank Gallagher as their father. Frank is a neglectful, narcissistic, substance dependent, single dad of six - Fiona, Philip, Ian, Debbie, Carl and Liam - who spends his days getting high or drunk. To survive, the family gets involved in crime, drugs and affairs to make money. The UK version is written and produced by Paul Abbott and set in a fictional estate called Chatsworth in Manchester. While the US version was adapted from Paul's version by John Wells and is set in the South Side neighbourhood in Chicago. Although the two versions have the same characters and character development, it is a completely different show altogether. After the first two seasons the US version veered off in its own directions - meaning there is little in common between the two other than some basic personality traits and background. Shameless US boasts an all-star cast that includes William H. Macy, Jeremy Allen White, Joan Cusack, Steve Howey, Emmy Rossum, and Cameron Monaghan. The show draws attention to American social issues such as healthcare, addiction and the welfare system, while sticking to lighthearted humour. Fans have taken to Reddit to discuss what version of the series is better, with the US version coming out as a clear winner. One user wrote: "Being from the UK, I initially fell in love with the original shameless. As much as I still like it, US shameless will always be one of my favourites. Seasons 1, 2, 3, 4, and 7 have a special place in my heart." While one fan simply stated: "The UK version is awful." Another user commented on the lack of depth in the UK version, stating: "US by far tried the UK first episode and just couldn't get into it and no flavour what so ever." A fourth chimed in, favouring the US cast, saying: "The cast of the UK version alone is enough to make me not want to watch it. None of them are appealing in any ways at all." The show has been on Netflix since 2018, but it has just been revealed the series will be leaving the streaming platform in September 2025.

SIOUX CITY, Iowa (KCAU) — Geeks, gamers and Cosplayers get on your mark, as Quad-con has invaded the Southern Hills Mall in Sioux City this weekend. This is the second year of the event at the mall, and it has everything from comic books, video games, action figures, original art and you can Cosplay as your favorite character. 'This is a celebration of all things pop culture. You're going to find anything from Pokémon action figures, comic books. You're going to find original art from the artists that are set up here. It's a mishmash of everything people are into right now. If you're looking for something for that hard-to-find nerd in your life, this is the place to come, said John Wells, the Event Coordinator for Quad Con. According to organizers, this event is a great way to 'dip your toe' in the water if you've never attended a Comic-Con before and want to experience it. 'It's a way to go to a comic book convention lite. You know, it's not the full experience but you will see the same vendors at these shows. We don't have guests, we don't have panel discussions, we don't have all these other things and ultimately that all costs money and we're a free event,' added Wells. The event is going on during normal mall hours and it concludes Sunday at 6:00 p.m.. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved.
