Recruiting insiders pick who they think 2026 star safety Joey O'Brien will commit to The day has come to find out if Notre Dame football will be adding another elite prospect to its 2026 recruiting class, as Pennsylvania 4-star safety Joey O'Brien will make his commitment later today at 7:15 p.m. ET. The 6-foot, 3-inch and 185-pound star will be picking either Penn State, Oregon, Clemson or the Irish, and whoever wins out on his recruitment will be getting one of the nation's best. O'Brien is currently ranked as the No. 65 overall prospect in the cycle according to the 247Sports Composite Rankings. Many recruiting insiders have weighed in on who they believe O'Brien will pick, and starting off with 247Sports where there are two predictions, both having him selecting Notre Dame. It's not just Irish insiders making the pick, as Austin Hannon, a Tigers reporter, also picked the Irish on Wednesday. Over at On3, they also like the Irish's chances, as 91.4% of their predictions have the Blue and Gold winning out. Their data is gathered from insiders, social sentiment, historical data and more. Finally, looking at what Rivals thinks happens with O'Brien, they also like Notre Dame's chances, with every one of its FutureCast's going in favor of the Irish. At one point Richard O'Leary has picked the Nittany Lions, but changed his mind and switched over to the Irish. Just by looking at the major three recruiting outlets, it very much looks like Notre Dame will be landing a star safety in O'Brien later today.

Top 2026 recruits Joey O'Brien and Khary Adams seem to be enjoying their Notre Dame visits
Top 2026 recruits Joey O'Brien and Khary Adams seem to be enjoying their Notre Dame visits Joey O'Brien, 2026 4⭐️ S, is currently on an official visit at Notre Dame this weekend. This is his final OV before he announces his commitment on June 20th. 👀☘️ 📸: @AydenPouncey — Caleb Conrad (@CalebConrad23) June 14, 2025 It's a big weekend for Notre Dame football recruiting, as they welcomed in multiple official visitors. Two of them, Pennsylvania safety Joey O'Brien and Maryland cornerback Khary Adams have mentioned about playing with each other, and along with the Irish, they each are also considering Oregon and Penn State among other schools. Both of them are on campus this weekend, and it very much looks like they are enjoying their time in South Bend. On social media multiple photo's and videos were shared, as O'Brien and Adams posed while donning the mostly Green and Gold in a shot shared by the Pennsylvania star. Adams then responded asking what he was thinking about doing. That wasn't the only thing going around, as O'Brien was also seen in a mostly Gold room holding a Notre Dame guitar (see below). Adams is ranked by 247Sports at the nations No. 75 overall player, while O'Brien is their No. 65 national prospect. The safety has scheduled a commitment date for June 20th, while the cornerback still has yet to give a timeline for his decision. Regardless of when they will each commit, the Notre Dame is pulling out all the stops to show them that they could be successful both on and off the field by joining the program.

Notre Dame gets good news on 2026 recruits Joey O'Brien, Evan Jacobson, and Kaydon Finley
Notre Dame gets good news on 2026 recruits Joey O'Brien, Evan Jacobson, and Kaydon Finley There is plenty going on the recruiting trail for Notre Dame football, and over the course of the last few days, its been a busy one. Multiple offers have been sent out to different classes, but that wasn't the only news that the Irish received. With 16 commitments in the 2026 cycle, Notre Dame has one the country's best at the current moment. For it to finish off near the top, they'll have to add multiple more players and keep the one's they have committed now. There is some good news and bad, so find out the latest on Notre Dame football's recruiting efforts. (Note: All rankings are via the 247Sports Composite.) 2026 safety Joey O'Brien This is a big visit for the Irish, as the 6-foot, 3-inch and 185-pound star is the No. 65 overall prospect. O'Brien is set to make his commitment on June 20th, and as of right now, he doesn't have any other trips planned. It's a battle between Oregon, Clemson, Penn State and Notre Dame, and we'll find out soon where the talented safety lands. 2026 tight end Evan Jacobson The Wisconsin tight end changed up his schedule, as Mike Singer reports that Auburn and Florida State are out, and replaced by Notre Dame and Iowa State. You have to like how this one is playing out for the Irish, as the 6-foot, 7-inch and 220-pounder has the potential to be very good. Jacobson, the No. 274 ranked player, has already taken visits to Texas A&M, Missouri and Stanford, but still needs more time to make up his mind. 2026 defensive tackle Alister Vallejo commits to Michigan While the Irish have multiple guys committed on the defensive line, they don't have a true interior player in that group yet. Vallejo has good size at 6-foot, 3-inches and 310-pounds and Notre Dame would have loved to beat out Michigan in this one, but you can't win them all. 2026 wide receiver Kaydon Finley Singer again reporting that Finley will make a commitment on July 4th, less than a month from now. The 6-foot and 200-pound receiver will be on campus for his official visit this weekend, so the Irish will have a final chance to show him why South Bend is the best option. The nation's No. 110 player still has an official to Texas for next weekend, so this one is far from over. What to make of this Losing Vallejo isn't ideal, but they do have Tiki Hola committed at the moment. It's his size that separates him, and it'll be hard to find a replacement for that. The O'Brien news is very encouraging, especially considering the timing of the situation. It does seem like Notre Dame has some ground to make up, but they could push themselves to the top after this weekend. Same goes for the Finley verbal date, and Jacobson's change of plans, as they can also be viewed as good developments for the Irish.

Top 2026 Notre Dame safety target Joey O'Brien narrows list to four, sets commitment date
Top 2026 Notre Dame safety target Joey O'Brien narrows list to four, sets commitment date Notre Dame football is looking for an elite 2026 safety to pair with current commitment Ayden Pouncey. The player at the top of that list is Pennsylvania's Joey O'Brien, who on Wednesday night cut his list down to just four schools: Oregon, Penn State, Clemson and the Irish as On3's Hayes Fawcett announced. The nation's No. 64 overall prospect according to the 247Sports Composite Rankings also set his commitment date for June 20th, just 15 days away. At one point in O'Brien's recruitment, it very much looked like he was a Notre Dame lean, but it seems like he very much enjoyed his recent official visits to see the Nittany Lions and Tigers have put a wrench into that thinking. He will take ann official to see the Ducks this coming weekend, but the good news is that the Irish get the last shot with O'Brien heading to South Bend starting on June 13th. With the Irish getting a last shot at impressing the 4-star, it could bode well with his decision a week later. It doesn't always work out that way, but Notre Dame has put themselves in a great position to land O'Brien later this month.
