Former Eurovision star considered taking his own life after song contest

Former Eurovision star Joe McCaul has revealed he considered taking his own life after the song contest. Joe was part of brother and sister duo, Donna and Joe McCaul, who represented Ireland at the Eurovision in 2005 in Ukraine with their song Love while Joe was still just 17. After failing to qualify, Joe revealed he faced months of ridicule and only got a holiday to Crete out of it. Speaking to Brenda Dennehy on The Comeback podcast, he said: 'I remember when we didn't get in, the devastating effect that had on me. "I went back to my room, I was only 17, and I struggled very hard because that was more shame, more embarrassment, more rejection. Everyone was going out, and they (Donna and the crew) went to the finals on Saturday night, I didn't go, I just stayed in my hotel room.' He said when he returned to Ireland, he was ridiculed regularly. The Irish Mirror's Crime Writers Michael O'Toole and Paul Healy are writing a new weekly newsletter called Crime Ireland. Click here to sign up and get it delivered to your inbox every week 'I think over the years, I was nearly taken advantage of. I was made an eejit out of by people, people in the media. That was hard because I was saying, 'Where is my self-worth, why can't I be assertive?' 'I found it very hard to be assertive because I didn't like conflict, and then because I didn't like conflict, if I reacted a certain way, some people would say 'Oh that was very aggressive'. So I couldn't even stand up for myself.' Joe said he thought they'd be 'millionaires' but all he got after Eurovision was 'a holiday in Crete'. 'I thought we were going to be millionaires. I thought I was going to be able to buy my mother out of the council estate. I got a holiday to Crete, that's what I got.' Joe is the youngest of six siblings and his mother raised them on her own. 'My dad, unfortunately, passed away a couple of years ago, but I had no kind of relationship with him. Alcoholism, unfortunately, took over his life and then he moved to London.' Joe said when a media outlet discovered his father's issue with drink it caused massive stress on the family. 'Once or twice I thought of taking my own life.' He said he had suffered recurrent intrusive thoughts about suicide from an early age. 'The intensity of it then would probably get a little more if I was under any increased stress or anything significant was happening in my life or something bad was happening… I was always terrified of the thought… I would always be going, 'f**k, I need to see a psychiatrist'.' After a stint on X Factor in 2015, where Simon Cowell called him an 'awful performer', Joe suffered at the hands of social media trolls again. 'And then there was the shame, the embarrassment, the rejection, and I just wanted it to be over there. 'The s**t that was put online, I remember my friends used to be sending them to me and the horrible stuff that people were saying. I used to have to say 'please do not send me this, I don't want to be looking at it'.' Joe revealed in 2014 that he had been diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis at the end of 2013. 'I literally just lost the plot then. I think I went on a self-destruct button that was hit. I went off the rails for months.' He said he was on medication that didn't suit him at the time but has since changed medication and is currently symptom free and in remission. 'Fitness, running, doing kind of high-intensity interval based kind of training has been my saviour. Not just for my physical health because that's quite good but for my mental health, which is an ongoing struggle that some days I'm really, really shit. 'But I have really good coping tools and I have a really solid support group around me,' he added.

Florida Man Breaks Into Random House To Avoid Angry Wife. This Happens Next

New Delhi: A 44-year-old Florida man snuck into a random house to avoid going home to his angry wife following a quarrel. Joe broke into a house in Davenport, stayed there for several days, cooked meals and even had a luxurious bath. A neighbour tasked with watching the house while the homeowner was away noticed suspicious activity on June 9 and called the Polk County Sheriff's deputies. When authorities arrived, the man was cooking himself dinner and had just finished a bath, The NY Post reported. Recalling the fairy tale "Goldilocks and the Three Bears,' Polk County officials quipped, "We assume the bath temperature was not too hot, nor too cold, but just right.' He told police that he broke into the house to avoid facing his wife's anger after a fight with her four days ago. The department, in a statement, said the 44-year-old told the cops he didn't have permission to be there. 'Not only did he not have permission to be there, he also had no idea who owned the house,' he told the sheriff's office. '(He) told deputies that he had gotten in a fight with his wife, and he didn't want to go home, so he chose to (enter) someone else's home instead,' the sheriff's office said. He was arrested and charged with felony unarmed burglary, misdemeanour petit theft, and domestic battery. In a similar incident in March 2023, a Seattle woman found a burglar taking a bath in a bathtub at her home. She found the man broke into the house through a window. After noticing the man inside her home, she called the US emergency helpline 911 to report the burglary. The officers, upon their arrival at the scene, ordered the man to leave. After no response, the police team searched the house and found the man resting in the bathroom.

'My dad tried the Harrods chicken Kiev and was floored by cost'

A woman bought her dad a chicken Kiev, also known as a chicken Kyiv, from Harrods and he gave his honest verdict on the meal - and he was floored by the price of it Chicken Kiev, also known as chicken Kyiv, is a staple mealtime choice for many Brits thanks to its delicious garlic butter centre and breaded outside. It's often paired with potatoes or salad and is a really satisfying dish, but oftentimes, busy families will opt for a freezer version to save time and money. So, how good would a chicken Kiev have to be for you to fork out some serious cash? Kate Keogh bought a chicken Kiev from luxury department store Harrods, for her 80-year-old dad, and she shared whether he thought it was worth the "splurge". Kate said that the chicken Kiev was "very posh" as she went to pick it up from Harrods in London. ‌ When Kate went into the Harrods food hall, she said she was "instantly distracted" by all the items that looked "amazing". ‌ She noted that there was "actually a really good selection of takeaway lunch options" if you're feeling fancy that day. "And I thought £8 for a truffle egg brioche was quite reasonable," Kate shared. But she was horrified when she realised that the chocolate-covered strawberries cost a whopping £4 per strawberry. Kate admitted she was "getting distracted" again by everything that was on offer, securing the chicken Kiev, which set her back a whopping £15.93. But then she got a "bit carried away" and ended up also getting a caviar bag of crisps, the viral rotisserie wrap, the honey cake, and a chocolate bar as well. These items totalled almost £50, but she admitted it was one of her "more indulgent food shops," but she joked that it's "not every day" that you get to shop at Harrods. ‌ When she got home and showed it to her dad, Joe, he said that it smelled good and was "very very big," but you'd "want it to be for that price". Kate then heated it up for her dad, sharing that it didn't smell as garlicky as she expected it to and like the normal "shop bought" ones she gets would. So, what was Joe's verdict? First off, he said, "If nothing else, it's big," so it seems as though you won't be going hungry if you get one. ‌ He continued: "It's certainly nice and moist," but he did note that it wasn't "runny". He said that his opinion was it's "good," but "not worth it". Kate showed the camera that the filling is "solid" rather than a "garlic butter" and her dad preferred when you cut into it for the juices to run all over the plate. Kate said that the chicken was moist and had a lovely flavour, but she said it wasn't "really a garlic butter," and they likened it more to "mushy peas". They concluded that it was "tasty," but perhaps not worth the huge price tag.

Rapper Fat Joe hits back at bombshell $20m lawsuit comparing him to Diddy & accusing him of having sex with minors

He allegedly paid for one girl to undergo cosmetic surgery SHOCK CLAIMS Rapper Fat Joe hits back at bombshell $20m lawsuit comparing him to Diddy & accusing him of having sex with minors Click to share on X/Twitter (Opens in new window) Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window) FAT Joe has hit back at bombshell claims he had sex with underage girls in a $20 million lawsuit comparing him to Sean Combs. The rapper's former hypeman Terrance 'T.A.' Dixon made shocking allegations in the suit filed in New York on Thursday claiming Fat Joe had sexual relationships with at least three underage girls. The lawsuit suing the rapper for damages of up to $20 million comes just two months after Joe sued Dixon for defamation. Dixon's court filing accused the 54-year-old of "engaging in sexual relations with children who were 15 and 16 years old" in exchange for cash and materialistic goods like clothes and phone bill payments. One of the girls from Dominican was 16 when she performed oral sex and other sexual acts on Joe in exchange for cash, clothes, and phone bill payments, documents seen by TMZ allege. Joe is also accused of having a sexual relationship with a 15-year-old girl he met at a concert abroad. He allegedly flew the girl out to New York and Miami on several occasions and paid for her to have a Brazilian Butt Lift, Dixon claims. The lawsuit further accused the rapper of falling in love with a 15-year-old Latina [referred to as Minor Doe 3] who he flew out for tours, set up in a Florida condo near his family home, and considered leaving his wife for. "The Defendant paid all Minor Doe 3's bills and even took her overseas to his tour stops," the lawsuit alleges. "He brought her to Florida and would put her up in a condo he rented a few blocks from his house with his wife. "In a recorded conversation, Minor Doe 3 and her 15-year-old cousin describe in detail to Plaintiff how 'inappropriate' it was for Defendant, who was in his late 30s at the time, to be fawning over children." Kanye shows up to Diddy's sex trafficking trial in blacked out Maybach after being spotted in NYC with wife Bianca Dixon also claimed Joe subjected him to "coercive labor exploitation, financial fraud, sexual manipulation, violent intimidation, and psychological coercion." The former hype man alleged that Joe made him perform coercive sexual acts over 4,000 times "under duress and surveillance", threatening to abandon him abroad if he did not. He allegedly had to perform such "humiliating" acts "to maintain his standing within the Enterprise." The lawsuit claims Dixon faced "a wide spectrum of sexual coercion, psychological control, forced exhibitionism, and surveillance-based humiliation, including being compelled to perform sex acts under observation, being filmed, or directed by [Fat Joe] in the presence of others — tactics designed to control Plaintiff's body, erode his autonomy, and ensure silence." Dixon's lawyer Tyrone Blackburn said Joe is "Sean Combs minus the Tusi." Diddy is currently on trial for sex trafficking, racketeering conspiracy, and transportation to engage in prostitution - all of which he has pleaded not guilty to. "These sex-based abuses were not private, incidental, or isolated," Blackburn, who represented Lil Rod in his lawsuit against Diddy, said of Dixon's lawsuit. "They were integral to the enterprise's culture of dominance and humiliation, enforced by Defendant's associates," he added, naming others listed in the lawsuit against Fat Joe. 'LIES AND THREATS' The rapper's lawyer, Joe Tacopina, who defended A$AP Rocky in his felony gun trial, told The Independant that the claims made by Dixon are entirely "fabricated". "The lawsuit filed by Tyrone Blackburn and Terrance Dixon is a blatant act of retaliation," he said, adding that it is all "lies" to destroy Joe's reputation and "force a settlement through public pressure". "Mr Cartagena will not be intimidated," he said. "We have taken legal action to expose this fraudulent campaign and hold everyone involved accountable." Joe's defamation lawsuit against Dixon accuses him and his lawyer Blackburn of attempted extortion and harassment. Tacopina called the $20 million lawsuit "a desperate attempt to deflect attention from the civil suit we filed first, which exposed their coordinated scheme to extort Mr. Cartagena through lies, threats, and manufactured allegations." However, Dixon has said he will not go down without a fight, "This is the right way to fight Joe - through the system" he told Variety. "Joe thinks he's a god. Joe thinks he's untouchable."
