Amid Iran-Israel war, Pakistan fears Baloch militants rise; Asim Munir raises alarm with Donald Trump

Islamabad has expressed concerns about anti-Pakistan outfits on the border between Iran and Pakistan amid fears of the Iranian regime being destabilised during its escalating conflict with Israel, reported news agency Reuters. Follow LIVE updates on the Israel-Iran conflict here During a meeting between Pakistan Field Marshal Asim Munir and US President Donald Trump on Wednesday, the former reportedly indicated that the country was worried about separatist and Jihadist elements on the Pakistan-Iran border taking advantage of the conflict with Israel. Anti-Iranian and anti-Pakistan outfits operate on both sides of the 900-km-long border. Israel, during its military campaign, has indicated that they are seeking to ensure the collapse of the Iranian government. Pakistan has condemned Israel's attack on Iran as a violation of international law. 'Jaish al-Adl extends the hand of brotherhood and friendship to all the people of Iran and calls on all people, especially the people of Baluchistan, as well as the armed forces, to join the ranks of the Resistance,' the group said in a statement on June 13. Pakistan also fears that separatist militants from its own Baloch minority, which are based in Iran, will seek to escalate attacks. 'There's a fear of ungoverned spaces, which would be fertile ground for terrorist groups,' Maleeha Lodhi, a former Pakistani ambassador to Washington to Reuters. 'They're all going to fight together if this blows up,' said Khan. Further, Pakistan is also concerned about the precedent set by Israel in attacking nuclear establishments in Iran, a month after India and Pakistan also engaged in a four-day conflict following a terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir's Pahalgam attack, reported Reuters. After his meeting on Wednesday with Asim Munir, Trump said about Pakistan's views on the Israel-Iran conflict, 'They're not happy about anything.' Pakistan's military said on Thursday that they had discussed Iran with the US, "with both leaders emphasising the importance of resolution of the conflict'. 'This is for us a very serious issue, what is happening in our brotherly country of Iran. It imperils the entire regional security structures, it impacts us deeply,' Shafqat Ali Khan, spokesman for Pakistan's Ministry of Foreign Affairs, said on Thursday. '

India defends Operation Sindoor at UN, slams Pakistan's ‘Theatre of deception' over Pahalgam terror attack

NEW DELHI: India on Wednesday forcefully defended its military action under Operation Sindoor, launched in response to the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack that killed 26 Indian tourists, accusing Pakistan of harboring terrorists and attempting to distort the narrative at the United Nations. Speaking at the UN Human Rights Council in Geneva, Kshitij Tyagi, Counsellor at India's Permanent Mission, said, 'When a state harbours terrorists who massacre innocents, defensive action is not just a right, it is a solemn duty.' Tyagi condemned Pakistan's attempt to 'mischaracterise' the retaliatory strikes, saying the world is not fooled by its "theatre of deception." He pointedly referred to the barbaric execution of 26 Indian tourists in Jammu and Kashmir 's Pahalgam, allegedly by Pakistani terrorists, which triggered India's cross-border military response on May 7. 'The UN Security Council rightly condemned this act of terrorism and called for all perpetrators, organisers, financiers and sponsors to be held accountable. And we all know that those sponsors operate from Pakistani soil,' Tyagi said. India's four-day military campaign under Operation Sindoor targeted terrorist infrastructure in Pakistan-controlled territories, ending on May 10 after an understanding was reached to halt military actions. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Giao dịch vàng CFDs với mức chênh lệch giá thấp nhất IC Markets Đăng ký Undo Tyagi also took aim at Pakistan's history of glorifying terrorists, saying: 'From hosting Osama bin Laden in its military cantonment to conducting state funerals for globally sanctioned terrorists, Pakistan never fails to disappoint. It claims victimhood while remaining the acknowledged epicenter of Jihadist terror.' He dismissed Pakistan's statements at the UNHRC as an attempt to invert the roles of victim and perpetrator: 'Pakistan chose to spend almost its entire speaking time not addressing the global human rights review, but obsessively targeting India with a tired, fabricated narrative.' Tyagi further justified India's decision to put the Indus Water Treaty into abeyance, calling it a response not only to terrorism but also to evolving climate, energy, and strategic imperatives. 'When a nation violates the foundation of a Treaty, it forfeits the right to invoke its protections. A nation cannot serve terror and expect to reap sympathy.' He concluded by reaffirming India's resolve: 'India will continue to act with responsibility and resolve to protect its citizens, its sovereignty, and its values, as any nation must.'

How much killing is enough for these destructive old men?

The events in the Middle East remind me of The Troubles in Northern Ireland and of Greek tragedy: apparently irreconcilable differences in perspective and belief leading to endless violence. In Greek tragedy, a family cursed by the gods tears itself apart, the violence fuelled by destructive old men on each side. In Northern Ireland, the war ended when both sides grew tired of burying their children. Presently, we are like a Greek chorus, flapping around, waiting for the gods to intervene. They won't. Destructive old men will still make the decisions until both sides grow tired of burying their innocents. David McLachlan, Armadale Iran regime a danger Why are we not uniting with the free world and Israel and putting an end to the Iran regime? I fully support Israel's approach. How can a country sit back and watch while being told you should not exist and they fund terrorist organisations? How long should the world sit back while they continue their nuclear secrecy? Steve Robertson, Torquay Lack of diplomatic skills One of President Donald Trump's thoughts about the Iran-Israel conflict was 'sometimes they have to fight it out, but we're going to see what happens'. That idea might possibly work for a couple of kids fighting in the schoolyard but it's an inane and unhelpful comment about an extremely volatile moment in global politics and one that demonstrates the leader of the free world's limited grasp of foreign affairs and lack of diplomatic skills. Ross Bardin, Williamstown Wiping their enemies off the map As your correspondent points out (Letters, 17/6), when Iran had its Islamist revolution in 1979, Ayatollah Khomeini quickly made it clear that Israel must be annihilated. From the very start Iran's Jihadist mission has been to wipe Israel off the map, reclaim Jerusalem and establish a caliphate. A nuclear weapon is merely the tool. Henry Herzog, St Kilda East Fighting for its survival Your correspondent (Letters, 17/6) has no deep understanding of the threat to Israel's existence by Iran. The Iranian Mullah leadership has called for the total destruction of the Jewish state of Israel for over 20 years. It is terrible to see the destruction and killing of innocent civilians in both Israel and Iran. Iran has paid the way for its proxies – Hamas, Hezbollah, Houthis, Syria – to continue to fight for the destruction of Israel. The Israeli government saw the immediate opportunity to stop the Iranian threat of developing nuclear missiles. Diplomacy was being stalled and delayed by Iran while it continued to develop nuclear warheads in breach of its agreement. If the Iran threat is not eliminated now, then Iran would continue to achieve its goal of a nuclear arsenal. Israel has not 'crossed the line'. It is fighting for its survival against a tyrannical state seeking Israel's total annihilation. Ian Fayman, Malvern East No winner but arms dealers The current wars are being waged by control freaks as they have been for centuries. Now we have Iran and Israel, each wanting to wipe the other out. It won't happen but how many innocent lives will be lost? No one will be winners except the arms manufacturers. If all leaders sat around a table and included the International Criminal Court it might be a start. Ian Anderson, Surrey Hills

"This is heinous crime...": Union MoS Sukanta Majumdar hits out at West Bengal Police over alleged raid at BJP office

Kolkata (West Bengal) [India], June 15 (ANI): Union Minister of State for Education and Development of the North Eastern Region, Sukanta Majumdar, has condemned the alleged police raid at the BJP office in West Bengal's Bankura district, calling it a 'heinous crime.' Reiterating West Bengal Leader of Opposition (LoP) Suvendu Adhikari's allegations against the state police and Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, Union MoS Majumdar said, 'This is a heinous crime conducted by police. We are going to court and lodging an FIR against that officer. At midnight, they raided the BJP office and broke the lock. This is unacceptable.' 'BJP is the world's largest democratic party, and we will fight against this both legally and politically,' he told ANI. The row began when, sharing a video of the alleged raid on X, Suvendu Adhikari called the West Bengal police 'spineless' and 'partisan'. Adhikari wrote, 'The @WBPolice under the 'slippers' of Mamata Banerjee, have once again exposed their true colours as a spineless, partisan force that serves as a puppet of the ruling regime.' Narrating the incident, he added, 'Last night, at around 2 AM, Officers from Khatra and Bankura Police Stations descended upon the Bankura District BJP Party Office like thieves and dacoits, attempting to break the gate and barge in under the cover of darkness. This shameless display of so-called 'power' was met with fierce resistance from our brave BJP Karyakartas and local Leaders, who stood firm against this cowardly act of intimidation.' 'Is this what Mamata Police have been reduced to; sneaking around in the dead of night to harass opposition workers while turning a blind eye to the real criminals? Where is this bravado when it comes to taking action against TMC's notorious 'lumpen' Anubrata Mondal? This is the same Police force that cowers when faced with TMC goons and their lawless antics. Just weeks ago, an audio clip surfaced of Mondal hurling vile abuses and threats at Bolpur's Inspector-in-Charge, targeting his wife and mother with obscene remarks. Yet, what did the SPINELESS Police do? NOTHING,' the X post read. He alleged that CM Mamata Banerjee has surrendered to rioters, and instead of acting against the rioters, the state police took refuge in shops. 'One can't forget the SURRENDER gesture made by the Mamata Police in Maheshtala a couple of days earlier, waving a white handkerchief towards the stone pelting Jihadists. Bloody Cowards. During the recent anti-Hindu violence in Murshidabad, where mobs vandalised shops and homes, used crude bombs, and attacked Police vehicles, rather than cracking down on these miscreants, when faced with Jihadist rioters, the Mamata Police either took refuge in shops,' Adhikari posted. The X post further said, 'They have a history of hiding under tables, with files on their heads as cover, too afraid to act against those TMC Goons who invade the Police Stations. The people of Bengal deserve better than a Police force that flexes its muscle against the Opposition and commoners but turns tail when confronted by TMC's goons or other lawbreakers who are under the shelter of the TMC Party. This is not Law Enforcement, it's an act staged by Clowns, who have lost all respect from the People of West Bengal. I condemn this attempt to illegally enter the @BJP4Bengal Party Office at night without valid reasons and documents. Shame on you @WBPolice.' (ANI)

Netanyahu Arming ISIS-Aligned Jihadis In Gaza, Israeli Defense Sources Confirm

At the direction of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, the State of Israel is arming an ISIS-aligned Jihadist gang in Gaza, unnamed Israeli defense officials confirmed to the Times of Israel on Thursday. While refraining from validating that particular characterization of the weapon recipients, Netanyahu confirmed that Israel is 'activating clans in Gaza that oppose Hamas.' Significantly, the prime minister is accused of green-lighting the weapon handovers without securing his cabinet's permission. News of Netanyahu's latest provision of aid to Sunni extremists in the Middle East first came via remarks made by opposition Knesset member and former defense minister Avigdor Lieberman in a Thursday morning interview with Kan Bet public radio. 'The Israeli government is giving weapons to a group of criminals and felons, identified with Islamic State, at the direction of the prime minister…Ultimately, these weapons will be turned against us.' It wouldn't be the first time Netanyahu has opportunistically bolstered Gaza extremists only to have them murderously lash out at Israelis. Indeed, following in the steps of his predecessors, Netanyahu boosted Hamas itself in a calculated effort to ensure Israel had no united, moderate counterparties available to negotiate a two-state solution to the Israel-Palestine conflict. 'Anyone who wants to thwart the establishment of a Palestinian state has to support bolstering Hamas and transferring money to Hamas,' Netanyahu told a meeting of Likud Party members of parliament in 2019. 'This is part of our strategy — to isolate the Palestinians in Gaza from the Palestinians in the West Bank.' In 2016, an earlier Netanyahu government provided medical treatment to a Syrian affiliate of Al Qaeda. At the time, former Mossad chief Efraim Halevy brushed aside an interviewer's astonishment that Israel would aid an enemy of the United States: 'We have a different account with Hezbollah. A totally different account. Al Qaeda, to the best of my recollection, has not attacked Israel.' Netanyahu's latest favorite band of rogues is the Abu Shabab clan, led by Yasser Abu Shabab, who has reportedly been twice-imprisoned in Hamas-run jails for criminal offenses. '[They] are in essence lawless criminals who in recent years wanted to give themselves an ideological angle or spin, so they became Salafi [jihadists] and began identifying with ISIS,' Lieberman said. Varying described as a militia or a criminal gang, the Abu Shabab clan has been widely accused of looting humanitarian aid to the devastated Gaza population. In 2024, Abu Shabab didn't deny the allegations, instead lamely claiming his group tried not to steal supplies meant for children. That entry on Shabab's rap sheet makes Netanyahu's support for the clan rather hypocritical, as he's often condemned Hamas for allegedly stealing aid. 'Hamas is coming at gunpoint and stealing the food,' he said. 'Humanitarian deaths and starvation is, for us, it's a tragedy. For them, it's a strategy.' On the other hand, the Shabab clan meets the only qualification that seems to matter to Netanyahu: An interest in seeing Hamas dislodged from power in Gaza. In late May, Hamas posted a video showing an operation in which its militant blew up a group of armed men that observers concluded to be members of the Shabab clan. Hamas said the targeted group was collaborating directly with the IDF by inspecting buildings in Gaza before Israeli soldiers took them over: Following Lieberman's comments, the prime minister's office issued a statement saying 'Israel is working to defeat Hamas in various ways, on the recommendation of all heads of the security establishment.' On Thursday afternoon, defense officials confirmed to the Times of Israel that Netanyahu's government is shipping Kalashnikov rifles to the jihadists. Compounding the controversy, the sources say Netanyahu initiated the weapon transfers without receiving approval from his cabinet. Click here to read more…
