With Kevin de Bruyne gone, plus Jack Grealish and Kyle Walker not with City's squad as they're expected to leave this summer, this new-look City side are hungry to win this competition so they can say they didn't go trophyless during the 2024-25 season and they will start the new campaign on a high. Wydad AC hail from Casablanca, Morocco and are the huge underdogs in Group G alongside City, Juventus and Al Ain. They were the African champions in 2022 under current Morocco nation team manager Walid Regragui, and were also runners up in the CAF Champions League in 2023. They were also runners up in the newly-created African Football League in 2023. But they haven't won the Moroccan league title since 2022 and are huge outsiders to make it out of this group. Manchester City team news, focus Rayan Cherki, Rayan Ait-Nouri and Tijjani Reijnders are all expected to make their debuts, while City also have Rodri back from his long-term knee injury which makes such a huge difference. Guardiola will obviously rotate his squad but City are desperate to win this title and he is likely to go all-out in attack with Erling Haaland and Omar Marmoush leading the way. Mateo Kovacic is out after having Achilles surgery, while Walker, Grealish and Kalvin Phillips are all not with the squad as they are believed to be leaving City this summer. Wydad AC team news, focus There are a couple of key players to look out for as Mohamed Rayhi is a real talent in attack, plus veteran midfielder Nordin Amrabat will do his best to hold things together. Captain Jamal Harkass will have his work cut out at center back as he tries his best to marshal Erling Haaland and Co. Manchester City vs Wydad AC prediction This feels like it could get quite lopsided. City are hungry and fired up to prove the doubters wrong and this new-look side have so much individual talent and new players ready to make a mark from the start. Manchester City 5-0 Wydad AC.

One Manchester City player made the ideal start to the FIFA Club World Cup

Manchester City began their FIFA Club World Cup campaign with a 2-nil win over Wydad AC at the Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia. There was a host of positives to come out of City's win over Wydad AC. One of the major positives was the performance of Phil Foden. The England international was named man-of-the-match and looked like he has put a disappointing 24/25 season behind him. Phil Foden set the tone for Manchester City against Wydad AC. It only took two minutes for Phil Foden to make an impact on Manchester City's Group G opener against Wydad AC. Foden opened the scoring goals after a Savinho shot was saved by Wydad keeper Mehdi Benabid. Foden's finish was a composed and classy one. It was a touch of class that has long been associated with Phil Foden's play. After scoring early, Foden's confidence grew. He moved around the pitch well and looked like the Phil Foden that everyone associated with Manchester City has grown accustomed to seeing play. There was an energy to his play, he was smooth on the ball, and his passing was on point. He almost scored a second goal when he was set up by Rayan Cherki late in the first half. It was Phil Foden's quality delivery from a corner that set up Jeremy Doku's volley at the backpost to make it 2-nil just before halftime. His overall performance against Wydad AC was superb, and it was the perfect beginning to a new season for Foden and his team. Phil Foden is determined to prove the doubters wrong. Speaking after Manchester City's win over Wydad AC, Phil Foden spoke of his desire to prove the doubters wrong. Speaking after his man-of-the-match performance, in an interview relayed by Rob Dawson for ESPN, Foden said: 'The hunger inside me is back and I want to prove people wrong. It was a difficult season, I'm not going to lie. It was not the best. I got a little bit of time off, rested. Yeah, new start, new me. I'm just looking forward to the season. I'm happy to get back in with the goals, obviously creating chances as well.' The FIFA Club World Cup represents the beginning of the 25/26 season for Manchester City. The tournament also represents the beginning of Phil Foden proving the doubters wrong and returning to his best. His performance against Wydad AC was the ideal beginning to the tournament and season for Foden, and he played with a smile on his face once again. That was great to see, as was the quality of his performance at the Lincoln Financial Field, and it could set him up for the new season based on how he played on Wednesday.

'Good steady start' or 'not totally convinced' - fans on CWC opener

We asked for your full-time thoughts after Manchester City's 2-0 victory over Wydad Casablanca in the Club World Cup. Here are some of your comments: Dave: A good steady start. Will get better as the new players settle in and blend with the existing Still not totally convinced that City are back to where they were. Defensively, Vitor Reis looked suspect and up front the team still need to be more clinical. Tijjani Reijnders was quietly impressive Man City made an OK start, though the sending off of Rico Lewis soured things. Erling Haaland did get one shot on goal, Rodri played some minutes but the main threats came from Jeremy Doku, Savinho and Phil New faces playing together in a real match for the first time. The defence didn't have much continuity while the offence seemed to move the ball well and created chances. Reijnders played well, Rayan Cherki will have to get used to the pace and Reis is going to be a great addition to the defence. I didn't really expect much besides the 'get to know you phase', but it was nice to see Rodri and Oscar Bobb getting some Let's face it no-one is really that excited by this competition and the performance was pretty flat. Having said that, it's an opportunity to blood some of the new players so that's all It was an average performance. Nothing too special from the new signings, especially not from Cherki. Foden and Doku were the highlights for sure and at the end of the day a comfortable enough win.

Man City's Phil Foden keen to prove doubters wrong after ‘difficult season'

The star player as Manchester City won a fourth successive Premier League title the season before last, Foden lost his spark amid an underwhelming team performance. But now feeling refreshed after a short break, the 25-year-old shone as City kicked off their challenge at the Club World Cup with a comfortable 2-0 win over Wydad Casablanca in Philadelphia on Wednesday. For the England international it was an immediate justification of his decision to sit out the recent internationals to prepare for this summer's tournament in the United States. Foden said: 'It was a difficult season. I'm not going to lie, it was not the best. 'But I got a little bit of time off, rested. New start, new me. Just looking forward to the season. 'The hunger inside me is back and I want to prove people wrong.' Having represented England at Euro 2024, Foden says he 'can't remember' the last time he had a significant spell of rest. 'Not a lot of footballers these days get much time off, so it was very important,' he said. Foden said: 'It was very good, obviously, to start the tournament off with a win. It was massively important. 'When they had the ball I was playing as a holding midfielder, so it's something I've not been used to but I enjoyed it. I want to be in the middle as much as I can. 'We want to try and put last year behind us and get back to how we used to be. The determination is definitely there.'
