WWE's new trademark filings spark speculation on Seth Rollins' faction and Jeff Cobb's rebranding

Image via WWE WWE has once again turned heads with its latest round of trademark filings, fuelling speculation about upcoming character debuts, potential faction names, and branding changes. Among the names filed are 'The High Ryze' and 'JC Mateo,' both of which have fans wondering what's next for the wrestling giant. On May 12, 2025, WWE officially filed a trademark for 'The High Ryze,' listed under entertainment services. While some fans believed the name could be linked to Seth Rollins' new alliance with Paul Heyman and Bron Breakker on RAW, the latest episode of NXT confirmed otherwise. 'The High Ryze' was introduced as the name of Wes Lee's new faction, putting to rest initial theories linking the name to Rollins' storyline. However, the mystery around Rollins' faction name continues to intrigue fans, especially with Triple H's history as 'Terra Ryzing' in WCW adding a playful layer to the speculation. Jeff Cobb makes WWE debut at Backlash, helps Jacob Fatu retain US title

Jeff Cobb made an immediate impact on the WWE roster when he made his debut during the Backlash premium live event on Saturday. Cobb interfered in the fatal four-way match for the United States Championship as Jacob Fatu, LA Knight, Damian Priest and Drew McIntyre fought for the title. As Priest took out McIntyre in the crowd, Knight turned his attention to Fatu. Knight set himself up to put Fatu through the announcers' table when Solo Sikoa removed Fatu from danger. As Knight went to address Sikoa, Cobb attacked Knight near the barricade. Cobb then slammed Knight into the ring post multiple times. He threw Knight back into the ring. Fatu regained composure and took a long look at Cobb and Sikoa before he finished off his opponent. It was long rumored that Cobb was going to make an appearance on WWE programming – it was only a matter of when and where. The Bloodline faction has dwindled in recent months as Tama Tonga and Tonga Loa have both suffered injuries. Sikoa made clear he had Fatu's back as he pursued the United States Championship. Cobb could be looked at as added reinforcements. The 42-year-old has been almost everywhere in pro wrestling. He made a name for himself in Lucha Underground and Pro Wrestling Guerrilla before taking New Japan Pro-Wrestling by storm. He made appearances in All Elite Wrestling and Ring of Honor as well. Pro Wrestling Illustrated named Cobb as one of the top 25 pro wrestlers in 2019. He's set to be a part of the SmackDown roster. Jeff Cobb Breaks Silence Following Surprise WWE Debut

Jeff Cobb has broken his silence following his impactful WWE debut at the Backlash Premium Live Event on May 10, 2025. After weeks of heavy speculation regarding his future post-New Japan Pro-Wrestling, the powerhouse officially arrived in WWE, immediately aligning himself with Solo Sikoa. Photo byPhoto byCobb's NJPW departure was announced shortly after reports surfaced of his contract talks with WWE, fueling anticipation for his move. While he playfully teased retirement on social media leading up to Backlash, the former NEVER Openweight Champion ultimately appeared in St. Louis, attacking LA Knight during the United States Championship match. Advertisement Taking to X (formerly Twitter) after his debut, Cobb humorously addressed his prior tease. 'Thank you guys! I'm happy to say I beat retirement and I made it from muscle beach to STL in the nick of time, yeah!!!' he posted, referencing videos he shared from Muscle Beach in Los Angeles shortly before the event. Cobb's interference, assisting Solo Sikoa, played a role in Jacob Fatu retaining the US Title. His arrival marks a significant addition to the WWE roster, bringing his renowned strength, agility, and experience from NJPW and Lucha Underground (as Matanza Cueto) to a new stage. Fans are now eagerly awaiting his next move within the WWE landscape, particularly his new association with Solo Sikoa. This is also a welcome addition to The Bloodline, considering both Tongas are out of action right now with injuries. This gives the faction a well-needed boost to the depth of the faction that is being carried by Fatu right now.
