Rams have one of the highest roster retention rates in NFL

Rams have one of the highest roster retention rates in NFL The Los Angeles Rams spent a lot of the 2025 offseason keeping the band together. L.A. kept 77.0% of its roster intact heading into 2025, according to Over The Cap's Jason Fitzgerald. That number ranked ninth in the NFL. This shouldn't come as much of a surprise, considering the Rams' biggest moves involved re-signing Matthew Stafford, Alaric Jackson and Tutu Atwell. L.A. also brought back veterans Akhello Witherspoon and Troy Reeder on smaller deals as well. The other element to consider is how many Rams players are still on rookie deals. Starters like Puka Nacua, Kyren Williams, Jared Verse, Byron Young and Kobie Turner are all young players who are sticking around for the foreseeable future. The Rams didn't let too many players go, either. Cooper Kupp was released, but otherwise the biggest departures were impending free agents like Michael Hoecht, Christian Rozeoom and Bobby Brown III. Sean McVay and Les Snead's lack of roster turnaround is also an indication that they believe the team can compete for a title again. Last year, the Rams almost took down the eventual Super Bowl champion Philadelphia Eagles. So rather than rebuild, McVay and Snead are double-down on the formula that worked so well for them in 2024. We'll see if it pans out.

Rams have a lot of homegrown talent on roster ahead of 2025 NFL Draft

Rams have a lot of homegrown talent on roster ahead of 2025 NFL Draft One of the hallmarks of a good NFL franchise is the production of homegrown talent. Meaning that a team isn't just infusing free agents or traded players onto their roster but rather finding and developing players through the draft. The Los Angeles Rams have notoriously towed the line of homegrown roster with outside help. They've had few first-round picks over the past decade but have hit found quality players later in the draft. This is well-represented in a new chart from Over The Cap's Jason Fitzgerald, who compared the percentage of homegrown players on a team to their 2025 draft capital. The Rams fell into the bottom right quadrant of the chart with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, meaning that they have a decent amount of homegrown players (second- or third-most in the league) but a medium-amount of draft capital. In terms of projections, this is probably a good thing for the Rams. Maintaining homegrown talent is a surefire way to stay competitive in the NFL, so long as those players are actually good. And considering the Rams only lost the NFC Divisional Round by six points, it stands to reason their roster is among the best in the league. The Rams' draft capital isn't severely limited, either. L.A. owns the No. 26 pick but doesn't pick again until No. 90. They have four sixth-round picks, though, which doesn't amount to much in the grand scheme of things. The amount of homegrown talent also means the Rams are good at identifying and drafting talented players at every point in the draft. So while the amount of draft capital doesn't compare to teams on the higher portion of the chart, that hasn't matter as much to the Rams in terms of what they get in return for those picks. Players like Puka Nacua, Kyren Williams, Byron Young, Kobie Turner and Quentin Lake have all become quality starters despite their perceived picks not being as valuable as others. It helps, too, when a team strikes gold on a first-round pick like Jared Verse.

Report: 8 exclusive-rights free agents coming back to 49ers

The San Francisco 49ers are getting a head start on some of their offseason business. According to Jason Fitzgerald from Over the Cap, the 49ers are expected to bring back all eight of their exclusive rights free agents. Re-signing ERFAs is typically a matter of 'when' than 'if.' Getting an ERFA back only requires a qualifying offer of the league minimum salary. If that qualifying offer is extended, those players are unable to enter the free agent market. Here are the eight ERFAs expected to re-sign: TE Jake Tonges TE Brayden Willis TE Mason Pline OL Austen Pleasants DL Evan Anderson DL Alex Barrett DE Sam Okuayinonu LB Jalen Graham Exclusive-rights free agents are players with expiring contracts who have two or fewer NFL seasons accrued. The trio of TEs could all conceivably earn a roster spot and playing time in training camp this year. The same goes for Anderson, an undrafted rookie last year, and Okuayinonu who flashed a handful of times as a rotational defensive end. Graham and Pleasants will be interesting to keep an eye on. They both play positions where the 49ers need depth. That opens the door for one or both to stick around on the active roster in 2025.
