Liverpool are the latest club to be credited with an interest in Jarrad Branthwaite but Everton have made a move to try and lock the England defender down with a new deal Everton have opened talks with Jarrad Branthwaite over a potential contract extension amid fresh transfer interest in the defender, whose suitors now include Liverpool. Branthwaite, 22, has established himself as one of the Premier League 's top young defenders and was the subject of a £50million bid from Manchester United last summer. A deal - which would be separate to the agreement which will see Florian Wirtz become a Liverpool player this weekend - could happen with the Bundesliga outfit ready to pay around £34m. The Reds are also closing in on a deal for Milos Kerkez, who would join from Bournemouth, while they are also said to be on the lookout for a new striker with Darwin Nunez expected to move on in the transfer window.

Yes he's 30 but he has speed and intelligence. DCL is too injury prone and has lost the ability of a true striker to predict where the ball might appear. Watkins can do that and can also beat Sad to say that I'd probably sell Nathan Patterson at this point. Three successive managers haven't fancied him so it doesn't look like he's got a future with us. We need loads of incomings but the most obvious one to me is Kyle Walker-Peters on a free. Natural replacement and upgrade on Ashley Young to cover at both full-back positions.

Tottenham are weighing up an approach for Everton defender Jarrad Branthwaite. Their interest, which could be formalised as soon as this week, comes despite the Toffees telling suitors that Branthwaite is not for sale this summer. Chelsea have been pondering over a swoop and Spurs were expected to test the waters, but David Moyes wants the in-demand England international to stay. Manchester United saw offers worth around £50million rejected last year while Liverpool and Manchester City have also kept a close eye on the centre back. Moyes is mindful of how important Branthwaite has become as part of a stubborn backline alongside James Tarkowski, Jake O'Brien and Jordan Pickford. Indeed, he wants to keep the core of his defence together when Everton make the transition from Goodison Park to their new stadium at Bramley Moore. But Branthwaite is said to be keen to make the step up to the Champions League and Spurs can offer it after beating United in the Europa League final last month. Everton, who have the shadow of Profit and Sustainability Rules looming over them, are realistic and could consider substantial bids in the region of £70million. However, Moyes is hopeful that new owners the Friedkin Group can resist any big-money approaches for the 22-year-old - if only for this summer. Branthwaite made 32 appearances in all competitions last season despite being ruled out for the opening months of the campaign after undergoing groin surgery. Spurs are now managed by Thomas Frank and on Sunday, they confirmed the permanent signing of young forward Mathys Tel from Bayern Munich. Meanwhile, Everton are among the clubs showing interest in Lyon left back Nicolas Tagliafico, who is out of contract this month.

Wrexham want Ben Davies despite Tottenham exercising their option to extend the defender's contract by 12 months at the weekend. Davies has been a Spurs player since 2014 and he featured in 28 games under Ange Postecoglou last season, despite not being a member of the manager's first-choice XI. Davies has played 358 games for Tottenham in total, operating both as a left back and a central defender. He is a popular member of the dressing room and especially close to captain Son Heung-min. Davies recently saw his contract extended until June 2026, which means Wrexham would likely need to pay Spurs a modest transfer fee to land him this summer. Tottenham's willingness to let Davies leave could depend on whether or not they are successful in their attempts to sign Everton defender Jarrad Branthwaite. Spurs are expected to formalise their interest in 22-year-old Branthwaite next week. Wrexham manager Phil Parkinson looks set for a busy summer following his side's promotion from League One to the Championship. Davies has never played below the top tier of English football, having been a Premier League player for his entire club career to date. The 32-year-old made 71 Premier League appearances for Swansea between 2012 and 2014. He has played a further 242 Premier League games for Spurs.
