Jared Gordon will take on Rafa Garcia on the Sept. 13 event, which moved from Guadalajara, Mexico to Frost Bank Center in San Antonio, Texas (ESPN+). Both fighters confirmed news of the matchup on social media after an initial report from MMA Mania. Gordon (21-7 MMA, 9-6 UFC) has won two of his past three fights, with both wins coming by knockout. The 36-year-old is coming off a first-round knockout of Thiago Moises at UFC Fight Night 256 in May. Meanwhile, Mexico's Garcia (17-4 MMA, 5-4 UFC) has won five of his past seven fights, most recently defeating Vinc Pichel by unanimous decision at UFC on ESPN 64 in March.

LAS VEGAS – Jared Gordon returned to the win column at UFC Fight Night 256, and hopes to take advantage of what he believes is the best version of himself to date. On the preliminary card at the UFC Apex, Gordon (21-7 MMA, 9-6 UFC) smashed Thiago Moises with a heavy overhand right and follow-up punches for a first-round knockout. It was his first win since UFC 295 in 2023, where he finished Mark Madsen in the opening round. A split decision loss to Nasrat Haqparast followed, but he and many others believe he should have gotten the nod. Now with a win over Moises (19-9 MMA, 8-7 UFC), who has fought many high-quality opponents over the years, including Islam Makhachev, Gordon hopes to land a top 15 opponent next, but isn't quite sure that will happen. "Who knows, bro?" Gordon said at a post-fight news conference. "Who knows? I hope. I think at this point – my last three fights have been amazing. This one, Nasrat, which should have been Fight of the Night, but for some reason they gave out four bonuses, which is whatever. Then I knocked out Madsen before that. This is what I can do every fight, so there's no reason, and I'm, at this point, I think I'm kind of like a household name, right? Been in the UFC for eight years, this was my 16th UFC fight. I'm winning. I don't look like sh*t in there. I'm not a old looking guy. I move, I'm in shape. I push anyone to the limit." Gordon admits that the results of past fights have caused him to reevaluate and change his approach. The split decision loss to Haqparast was frustrating, as was a unanimous decision loss to Paddy Pimblett in 2022. For the latter, 23 of 24 media scores submitted to MMA Decisions favored Gordon, including 11 members scoring every round in his favor. Those were teaching moments for Gordon, but he believes he has it all figured out now. "When you go into a fight, and you win the fight, and then you still lose somehow, it kind of messes with you," Gordon said. "Obviously, there's a few fights in my past that's what happened. So, I go home and I'll be like, 'I don't understand.' I did everything right, I won the fight, and I still lost. "I'm not going to go into specifics, but I just had to change a couple of things, personal things, and I think I found the key. So, here I am, and I'm the best I've ever been. I've shown in the last four or five fights that this is how good I am. Those fights weren't flukes. So, this is me."

UFC Fight Night 256 adds Jared Gordon vs. Thiago Moises lightweight bout Lightweights Jared Gordon and Thiago Moises will meet for a solid lightweight matchup in May. A fun lightweight matchup has been added to UFC Fight Night 256. On May 17, Jared Gordon will take on Thiago Moises at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas. The event is headlined by Gilbert Burns vs. Michael Morales. MMA Junkie confirmed the booking with two sources. The promotion has not yet officially announced the bout. Gordon (20-7 MMA, 8-6 UFC) will compete for the first time in nearly a year after a pair of opponents fell through in February. "Flash" will look to rebound from a split decision loss against Nasrat Haqparast last June, which followed a first-round finish of Mark Madsen in November 2023. The 30-year-old has traded wins and losses since 2022, with a no contest against King Green as well. Moises (19-8 MMA, 8-6 UFC) enters his second fight of the calendar year, looking to make it two straight wins. In his first fight of 2025, Moises won a unanimous decision over Trey Ogden to return to the win column following a decision loss to Ludovit Klein last June. MEXICO CITY – MarQuel Mederos wasn't totally thrilled with his performance, so a callout wasn't the first thing on his mind. But just as he was going to officially decline a namedrop once and for all, he had a change of heart. Following his UFC on ESPN 64 win over Austin Hubbard on Saturday in Mexico City, Mederos (10-1 MMA, 2-0 UFC) mentioned the experienced veteran Jared Gordon (20-7 MMA, 8-6 UFC) as a potential next fight. 'I have some things in mind,' Mederos told MMA Junkie and other reporters at a news conference after the win. 'But definitely after that fight, I think I need to sit my ass down and go do some training. Then, we can talk about that later. That's my next move. Actually, you know what? F*ck it. I had Jared Gordon in mind and that's who I wanted. If they can make that happen, let's make it happen. I don't really have a date necessarily, but I'd love to have that fight.' Mederos said the callout is rooted less in what Gordon does and more in his own self-confidence. Mederos has yet to lose as a professional and thinks he has the skills to beat a crafty veteran like Gordon. 'I like a lot of things,' Mederos said. 'You see when you ask me about it, it puts a smile on my face. I like a lot of things. I more like the idea of what I can do, rather than what he has going on.
